"I love Dick" - TV show with Kevin Bacon on Prime

Has anyone had the misfortune of watching this? I should have known better by the title, but I love Kevin Bacon and it was free on Prime, so I thought "how bad can it be?"

Well, the answer is... the worst bloody television I have ever seen in my entire life. It's about this insane, very unattractive and unlikable married woman who becomes obsessed with Kevin Bacon's character and starts writing him disturbing letters. The show consists of countless porn scenes just for the sake of it.

It is a complete "WTF have I just seen?!" from beginning to end. I can only assume that Kevin Bacon must have enormous money problems or have lost his mind completely to have agreed to be a part of this Shock

It's based on a great book. Might not translate well to screen I guess.

mrstea301 · 06/01/2022 15:24

I'm pretty sure that Kevin Bacon does have money problems, I thought that's why he did so many EE adverts. Was he not ripped off by Bernie Madoff?

XelaM · 06/01/2022 15:28

Well, I haven't read the book, but the TV is something else. It reminds me of Posolini's unwatchable "Salo or 120 days of Sodom". Just porn under the guise of "art". And the casting was as disturbing as the nonsense they were portraying. The main character is so unlikable and she absolutely cannot act! Even Kevin Bacon can't rescue this (although he is the only one who tries a little bit but he also looks a bit worse for wear)

Is it worse than mrs brown's boys?

XelaM · 06/01/2022 15:30

@mrstea301 Ahh, this would explain it! Only HUGE money problems could have possessed him to be in something like this

@ufucoffee

Is it worse than mrs brown's boys?
SURELY not!
Lottapianos · 06/01/2022 15:32

I really enjoyed it 🤷 no, none of the characters are very likeable but I'm ok with that. I liked how lust and desire were explored from a woman's perspective and thought the performances were great

There was meant to be a second series but it's been cancelled so you won't have to sit through that!

XelaM · 06/01/2022 15:32

@ufucoffee 😂 Haven't seen "Mrs Brown's Boys", so maybe I'm missing another gem, but it is certainly worse than anything I have seen on TV

@Lottapianos Really? Did you not think "WTF is this?!". The main character was repulsive and I thought she couldn't act at all. It's "restraining order-worthy" stuff that she does. Very disturbing. I'm not even talking about all the other nutty characters whose idea of art is just taking their clothes off CONSTANTLY. And what about the ending..?! Confused

The cancellation doesn't surprise me.

I love Kathryn Hahn and think she's a great actor. Yes, her character's behaviour was outrageous. I enjoy watching unsympathetic characters from time to time

How very dare you spout all your disdain over the brilliant Kathryn Hahn's performance? Nope I vehemently disagree this was a really good series. Plus it was one of the platforms which led to her excellent performance as Agatha Harkness in Wandavision

This series originally aired about 5 years ago and to be fair it was one of those polarising, marmite TV shows. I would strongly urge anybody reading this review to go watch and make your own opinion.

Groovester · 06/01/2022 16:41

I really enjoyed it Grin

ChoccyJules · 06/01/2022 16:43

I have always had a soft spot for Mr Bacon so I will have to find this and make my own mind up Wink

XelaM · 06/01/2022 18:17

@ChoccyJules Don't get me wrong, Kevin Bacon is the only reason I watched this. He is still totally hot even though he's not his young self in this trashy series. He is the only redeeming feature about this show. Unfortunately, it's not him we have to see naked on screen most of the time. But he is the object of the main character's obsession

On a complete side note about Mr Bacon, I recently watched the movie "Wild Things" and he is a totally unexpected (for me) full frontal naked scene Blush I'm easily entertained

I loved it. It was mad as a box of frogs but I loved all the female horn.

XelaM · 06/01/2022 18:28

Those who have seen and liked it, could you maybe pm me to explain wtf the ending was about, as I felt I needed to be on some hard drugs in order to appreciate it. Don't want to spoil it for those who intend to watch this, so please pm me Grin

makes a note of ‘Wild Things’

XelaM · 07/01/2022 22:51

@ChoccyJules Hehe Grin

I love Kevin Bacon in pretty much anything, but my absolute favourite role of his is in "A Few Good Men". I recently rewatched it and he's amazing in it, alongside the all-star cast of course
