I've not watched a single bit of broadcast tv for the last fortnight - only thing I've seen is Don't Look Up. I'm reminiscing about the days when Christmas/New Year had brilliant, unmissable one-offs on mainstream tv that everyone talked about back at work.

I've four days left before I go back to work and prepared to fully invest if necessary: please hit me with the Amazing Thing I Really Need To Have Watched: your stand-out programme or short series shown on scheduled/broadcast channels over the past two weeks. Any genre, from comedy to drama or documentary and all points in between. Thanks!

Anne on ITV/STV is very well done, informative and absolutely heart breaking - it's the story of a woman who lost her son in the Hillsborough tragedy and the fight for justice.

The cave on Disney plus about the rescue of the Thai boys football team from unsurprisingly a cave a few years ago. It was amazing. Have tissues to hand.

I loved Worzel Gummidge Blush

Get Back - brilliant piece of cultural history

Puppylucky · 05/01/2022 19:48

Totally misread your original post - as you were!

If you like a ghost story, I enjoyed The Mezzotint on BBC. An MR James ghost story, do not watch alone late at night like I did!

FireandBrimstone · 05/01/2022 21:06

Oh these all look good suggestions, thank you.
And now I reeeeally want to peek at Mezzotint but it sounds exactly the kind of thing I'll regret in the small hours of tonight so will wait for company to watch it!

I love that too! So whimsical and the scenery is beautiful. Makes me long for lazy summer days.

If you have amnesia I'd recommend A Very British Scandal. Acting from the "make like a tree" school. Grin

Sorry, no help whatsoever for you but it did help me fall asleep quickly.

FireandBrimstone · 05/01/2022 21:31

@CatNamedEaster ARF! I'm no fan of Ms Foy, will be definitely be leaving that to expire on iPlayer...

I keep seeing this but didn't know what it was about. Was it really heart breaking?
CatNamedEaster · 05/01/2022 21:40

It seems like there wasn't much on around Christmas but we have Anne, Four Lives and Around the World in 80 Days recording so hoping they will be good.

Our highlight was rewatching Ghosts with DS who found it hilarious.

DoucheCanoe · 06/01/2022 01:39

@pengu, nobody said it had to be festive!

It's definitely been my standout TV over the holidays although we've mostly been watching Spider-Man and the Avengers to be fair...

@batmanladybird it was, Hillsborough was before my time and I have no connection so I'm ashamed to say I didn't know the full extent to which they had to fight for acknowledgement. I properly sobbed at the end of the last episode for a good 5-10 minutes.
