As pp have said an appropriate adult is there to ensure that someone who is classed as vulnerable under PACE Act 1984 ie has a mental health condition, learning disability is treated correctly and not intimidated or abused by police. In my experience as an appropriate adult (duty officer in social services adult care) we’d get called if any suspicion that someone had those needs so that there could be no challenge to the evidence obtained by questioning. We would ask for a duty solicitor as standard (there appeared to be one using a laptop to the left of the appropriate adult).
Heartbreaking to hear the child’s testimony.
Didn’t surprise me that his suicide attempt showed no concern for the welfare of the van driver that would hit him, it was just about him.

Have never inflicted violence on anyone in my life but I could do some damage to that vile ‘human being’ and feel no guilt whatsoever

They were both banned from any regulated activity with children ... maybe that was the judge trying to give ammunition to any future family court if she tries to get her kids back / has more ...

This won't affect her private life. It just means they can't work with children or old people.

She will be watched like a hawk specifically if she has a relationship with anyone with kids or gets pregnant again. There really are a few people where sterilisation should be allowed.

I’m not actually sure on that, I really really hope not.

As a child protection social worker, I see and hear a lot of upsetting and traumatic things that happen to children - it’s the norm to develop a thick skin to be able to get on with the task in hand that is obviously to safeguard the child. But even I couldn’t help but bawl my eyes out watching this tonight, the daily lived experiences of Teddie before his death was truly fucking shocking. It’s hard to comprehend how anyone could be so evil to any child let alone an infant. RIP beautiful boy. I hope the other children are receiving lots of emotional support too although given the limited resources and long waiting lists it is unlikely.

Low IQ definitely seems to be a common thread with these cases. Star Hobson’s mother was said to have an IQ of 70 and the woman who murdered Arthur Labinjo Hughes was allegedly brain damaged after a suicide attempt. No excuse obviously, just seems like something worth looking into by the authorities.

How on earth could she defend him when you heard the interview of the child . Heart breaking .

I don’t think that 2 years community order was enough for her .

The mother wasn't upset in any interviews.
