Does anyone else watch this show?

I love it, but nobody seems to know about it! Sad

OP posts:

Maddison I meant

Itjustgetsbetter · 29/04/2022 15:27

Urgh. I still dislike Phillip. I cannot put him and Kate together at all. And another stereotype English man in the cousin Oliver.

Kevin is my guilty pleasure. Though he’s a bit emotionally stupid.

Completely emotionally stupid. He tries to sleep with Sophie and she knocks him back. He then tries to sleep with Cassidy and she knocks him back and then goes back to Sophie. Between that there was a flirtation with the singer. It was all very sweetly written but I don't think someone like Kevin would ever be happy. It still didn't stop me crying at the end though and I did like it. My preferred ending would have been if Kevin ended up alone. I think that would have been more true to his character.

The last couple of episodes have felt really sloppy. Philip's relatives are ridiculous. It feels like Emily's ridiculous relatives in Friends, I'd have expected more from this is us. And it seems like a very tidy and unrealistic way of leaving Kevin. I'm looking forward to the Miguel episode but I hope the writers do him justice.

Blossomtoes · 29/04/2022 20:15

They have, it feels as if a couple of episodes have been left out.

smith19784 · 29/04/2022 20:31

I just finished this. I quite enjoyed it. Unfortunately I don't like Kevin much since his behaviour in real life towards his ex wife Chrishelle. I am of course being a bit harsh as my opinion is based on what she told us on selling sunset which I'm sure is not dramatised at all 🤣
I think this is us was ready to finish. In one of the middle seasons i think it lost its way a bit but I enjoyed it over all.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 29/04/2022 21:12

I've just watched this week's episode. I'm glad it was Sophie. I had hoped it would be her. And at least it felt as though Kevin had had some character growth since he was a teen with his relationship with Nicky, having the twins, starting the vet charity/company.

Everything about Kate and Philip irritates me -from the racist portrayal of Brits to Kate reverting to the most insipid version of herself.

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 30/04/2022 12:03

It feels like Emily's ridiculous relatives in Friends

yes, this😆the cousin, cringe (with script reference to Hugh Grant, the default ‘Englishman’).
I did cry at the end of this episode though, it was a throwback to romcom endings of 90s movies when I was young and needed to grow up like Kevin too.😍
Roll on the Miguel episode…

Cravingsweets · 03/05/2022 08:48

I think there's still time to throw a spanner in the works with regards to Kevin's"happy ending". I just think it seems too easy.

Philip's growing on me but it looks like I'm alone in that! I agree about the lazy portrayal of British people though.

RedMake88 · 03/05/2022 15:11

What was Kevin’s speech about with the slow slurred speech? Who is he mimicking?

DaisyQuakeJohnson · 03/05/2022 15:14

It's from The Princess Bride - Sophie's favourite film when they were little.

HerbErtlinger · 03/05/2022 15:37

I like Phillip but I've never been a Toby fan. Always thought he was very emotionally manipulative and passive aggressive (as is Kate to be fair)

MinglingFlamingo · 03/05/2022 22:50

Finally caught up

Agree about the Emily from Friends family relations vibes. Feel that Philips mum would be Joanna Lumley

I want more conversations between Maddison & Beth I loved their sleuthing

Speaking of Beth why weren't her daughters at the wedding ???

I agree @Cravingsweets I don't think it's going to be all smooth sailing for Kev and Sophie

I love the hotel where the wedding was

I just watched the "miguel" episode. No spoilers as I know lots of people haven't seen yet. But I just have to say, this series is really the best series I have ever seen on TV - it is so raw, so real and it is episodes like this (fantastically well written) that really make you review your own life and your relationship with your family members

Loopytiles · 04/05/2022 06:36

Looking forward to it!

lots of things, on reflection, have annoyed me because they were so sanitised and unrealistic.

Adoption. Fostering. Race. Addictions. Dementia. Parenting a DC with disability (Kate can hold down a job and date with a DC who is blind and another adopted DC).

I enjoy the sentimentality of the show but it grates on these kinds of things.

Blossomtoes · 04/05/2022 10:19

I like the break from reality. Watching This is Us is a bit like watching The Waltons for me. If I wanted gritty realism TiS isn’t where I’d go for it.

I'm going to watch it today at lunch. Can't wait as Miguel is my favourite character along with Nicky. I'm probably going to end up a blubbering mess. I always thought Miguel got a raw deal with that family. There didn't seem to be any concern for him whatsoever when Randall saw his hands shaking. It felt more concern for Rebecca on how Miguel would be able to look after her. He just wanted a break and he wasn't even allowed that.

Theblacksheepandme · 04/05/2022 13:42

What a beautiful episode. You're in for a treat. I am so glad that I have a Miguel in my life.

There's a few things I thought when I watched it but won't say anything for the time being.

Netaporter · 05/05/2022 08:58

Just watched it and used a box of tissues 😭what a lovely episode. Couple of timeline issues for me regarding Miguel and Rebecca’s relationship though from my recall of previous eps in the early series? Be interested to see what everyone thinks.

Theblacksheepandme · 05/05/2022 10:15

I actually don't get bogged down by timelines. I know it should be accurate but I just enjoy watching it.

HerbErtlinger · 05/05/2022 10:28

I started crying about halfway through and didn't stop til the end
