Does anyone else watch this show?

I love it, but nobody seems to know about it! Sad

@SynchOrSwim

What does everyone think is going to happen with Kate and Toby? I'm sad that they don't end up together.
I think that Toby will smoke some food, little Jack will be injured and Kate will be so angry and say things that cannot be unsaid and will lead to divorce.
Libertynan · 20/01/2022 14:55

Kate is definitely going off Toby.

The music teacher is much more on her level - in that her birthday gift was something which pleased her. Thoughtful.

Motherdare · 20/01/2022 16:26

I’ve always thought Toby would have an affair at some point.

Netaporter · 20/01/2022 17:51

I agree the Teacher’s gift was thoughtful but Toby flew back to be with her as a surprise?. Right now it does seem like a stretch that they split up. And Obviously the green egg plays a part and there is a fire involved but I can’t see how when he’s obviously trying to find common ground for when they are together (and trust me, I can see completely how a Peloton literally kills a marriage as per in AJLT 😂)

HerbErtlinger · 20/01/2022 18:14

I think Toby will be distracted by something work related and that's how Jack gets injured on the smoker and Kate won't be able to move on from him prioritising work over family and endangering Jack

Housewife2010 · 20/01/2022 20:43

What was the teacher's gift? I watched it today, but can't remember. Much prefer Toby to English guy.

Netaporter · 20/01/2022 20:48

@Housewife2010 it was the song sung by the kids in one of the previous episode this series

I remember now. Thank you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/01/2022 22:32

I assume jack walks into the smoker and burns self - scar on head

Tho why would they keep it for years to give to jack

Did we ever meet other jacks parents. The mum who died

Have mind block

Was good to see how the 4 dads cope with life and looking after babies toddlers 6yrs and teenagers

Kevin was naughty to slip away

Saying that the movie sounded crap and not for kids

Netaporter · 21/01/2022 01:29

@Blondeshavemorefun we saw Jack’s parents in the Vietnam-heavy season and flashbacks. The mum was downtrodden and the victim of DV. Not wanting to leave her with the Dad was the reason Nicky didn’t go to meet Sally I think?

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2022 06:22

Oh that’s right. Course we did. Yes the father was a drunk and mum def a victim

Weird how forget things

Pl242 · 21/01/2022 12:08

A minor thing but it really jars me when you see really unrealistic portrayals of babies in shows. Like with Kevin’s twins on this episode. Face down, wearing hats (I think), cots adorned with bumpers. Same massive cots they have seemed to have been in since birth in their own room. Not wanting to start a debate in rights and wrongs of these things but their writing team features parents. How do they sign off on these types of production?

Hellosunshiner · 21/01/2022 12:25

Not keen on either Toby or the music teacher! Toby seems to have checked out since they had kids. It might have started with little Jack's diagnosis, because Kate got on board with it far faster than Toby did. Then with his job taking him away from home, they are more disconnected than ever. But if he was home I'm not sure they could repair it. Early days they were good together, but he's not always seemed 100% settled with her. There was the time he went to the gym and got all buff behind her back?! He seems a bit patronising and full of generic platitudes rather than genuine feelings these days.

I think Sophie will make a reappearance in Kevin's life because in the last series I'm sure there was a snippet where they showed her.

Not interested in Malik and Deja's relationship, but am interested in how Randall and Beth handle the situation going forward.

Oh I know

I made the same comment when they were born. In middle of cot with blanket over them

idiotfacelicker · 21/01/2022 20:37

Thanks for the parenthood tip (sorry, can't remember who it was). Really getting in to it. It's is very "this is us" in Tone but without all the trying to be clever time jump stuff.

XelaM · 21/01/2022 20:52

@idiotfacelicker I LOVED "Parenthood". I thought it was better than "This Is Us". It's been years since I watvhes it, but I remember it was sooo good. Where are you watching it?

XelaM · 21/01/2022 20:52

watched*

Motherdare · 21/01/2022 22:31

Oh I loved Parenthood… once I could stop seeing Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore that is.

XelaM · 21/01/2022 22:52

Hah, yes I know what you mean about Lauren Graham! I loved the characters on "Parenthood" so much. Hardly anyone irritated me (bar Lauren Graham sometimes 😂 ). Whereas on "This Is Us" I now barely like anyone except Kevin and Miguel

XelaM · 21/01/2022 22:54

And it's funny how Lauren Graham and Peter Krause played brother and sister on "Parenthood". Their chemistry was great

isurvived3under2 · 21/01/2022 23:25

How old is Deja supposed to be? What age do they learn to drive in the US? If she's 17... what's the big deal?! The lying yes, but she lies because they're treating her like a child.

XelaM · 21/01/2022 23:40

I think you can get a driving licence at 16 in the Us, but even so this whole Deja/Malik story is ridiculous. Although looks about 14, he's at uni, so presumably over 18 with a kid. Deja looks older than him, but even if she's a year or so younger, given that he has a kid, I presumed they were "at it" anyway. Surely it can't come as a shock to Randall/Beth.

Libertynan · 22/01/2022 11:38

I'm getting over invested in this one. So Yes, you can drive at 16 in most states in the US . Some let you get a learners permit at 14!

Then I started looking at the age of consent. 16 in Massachusetts (they live in Boston I think?) but some states i.e. California it's 18 - which surprised me.

Shmithecat2 · 22/01/2022 12:24

They live in Philadelphia, so license age is 16.

Libertynan · 22/01/2022 12:51

Ah - I couldn't just remember where they moved to.
