Royal Carols:Together at Christmas. Anyone watching? What do you think?

It's on in the background here. DC in bed. DH half-watching, I'm sort of watching. Feels dull and an odd mix- lacks atmosphere and William looks bored.

The organist was such a plodder, the carols were far too slow. And Ellie G was awful.

The other soloists were fab. But it didn't quite feel Christmassy.

I love Kate so I’d watch her on ANYTHING but even I got bored and went upstairs. Too posh for me 🙈 I thought it would be primary school children singing and some modern songs too

We're watching delayed but I'm really enjoying it. It's a nice televised Christmas church service with a few Royals & celebrities thrown in the mix.

Loved the soldiers poem but got very distracted by Ellie Goulding's lips and singing. I hope they make this an annual tradition.

Story as to why it is on ITV not BBC .... all 'alleged' or 'rumoured' of course.

I think the piano playing would have been a lot more impressive if it were done in front of the audience at the service, which apparently it wasn’t. It’s a bit different if you know you can re-record it if things go wrong.

Well, yes. She does very little indeed - even for her patronages - but gets away with a lot. The endless narrative is that she’s “growing” into the role, or that she’s “about” to do this, that, or the other. She’s 40 next month - how long is it going to take her FFS? This piano thing could have been quite a big thing, if she’d have done it to a live audience. But no, she didn’t.

Caveat - I did not watch it but if Kate's Piano playing was pre recorded then I am torn between

1. utter nerve-wracking to do that if you are not a a really good piano player

2. Had she made a mistake - knowing she isn't a professional piano player I expect the people there would have given her a bye on that - even more so if she had stood and said "I played all the right notes , but not necessarily in the right order"

Merry Christmas! I watched Kate and Tom Watson doing their song on Youtube. I thought it was lovely and brought a tear to my eye. For those that can't be here

Tori Amos is not about to be usurped by Kate’s piano prowess… that is for sure.

I couldn't get over how bad Ellie Goulding was. She murdered that song.
