If you enjoyed the Harlan Coben adaptations on Netflix of The Stranger, Gone For Good, and The Woods then keep a look out for yet another at the end of December called Stay Close starring Cush Jumbo.

Well scratch my previous...

It's now revealed...

No spoilers. But it's neither satisfactory nor logical and probably is pretty obvious.

WhoWants2Know · 31/12/2021 19:20

What the blue fuck was that dance number?

Oh if you thought that made no sense...

Wait till the last 20 minutes of the whole show. I'm actually really pissed off I watched it all, I should have switched off at Eddie.. or the dance number... Or the two killers being so ridiculously unbelievable... Oh well, lucky it's new years eve and I had nowt better to do.

I'm watching it. What on earth has happened to Sarah Parrish's face? She used to be stunning. I wasn't sure it was her so had to look up the cast details to check.

I'm just watching it now.

She looks great, she's just aged naturally and not filled her face with Botox. She's also wearing unflattering makeup as per her character in the show.

BellaChagall · 31/12/2021 20:09

Chequerboard interesting how we see things differently. I assumed she'd done something to her face, but maybe it's the long hair. She just looked so different. Or maybe we've got so used to actresses not changing because of cosmetic surgery that it's startling to see someone who has aged naturally. I shall look again!

She's 53 and look good on it, I think. Maybe that's because I'm just 2 years younger!

Anyway, sadly I think she's got bigger problems as she fractured her spine at the start of Nov and was airlifted back from Turkey.

If Sarah Parrish has aged naturally, then I am a banana!

She could be a metaphor for the whole show-tis bollocks.

Someone has gone missing. Now another! Now another! Ohh...all on the same date. Whoosh!

Cush Jumbo is in hiding about three miles down the road-purleese!

A detective sasshays around a huge room with no-one in it and does magic tricks.

20 minutes of dialogue per episode but loads of 'atmospheric' music.

I've watched 2 and a half episodes and up with any more I will not put.

Piss off with the spoilers!!

Some of us have it finished it yet...

I love his books but don't think they really work on screen.

Thewiseoneincognito · 01/01/2022 01:46

I love how it’s trying to make Blackpool out to be some kind of middle class resort 🤣 poor people can not be found anywhere in it. It’s weirdly good though…

'Harlan Coben is my favourite author. He keeps you guessing til the last page'

I've read a few but they all seem to be exactly the same story with character names changed. Someone disappears in strange circumstances then reappears years later. Unless he's learnt how to vary a plot now?

Not if "Stay Close" is anything to go by.

The reason it keeps you guessing is because the person they reveal who did the thing usually makes little to no sense whatsoever and sometimes you question if the person that did the thing would even be physically capable of doing the thing...

WhoWants2Know · 01/01/2022 22:38

Oh, I guessed the killer right!

It's quite a fun series for shouting at the telly over crazy shit.

Gardeningcreature · 01/01/2022 23:01

Just finished binge watching it. I enjoyed it overall although some things got a bit silly. I liked that it was set somewhere different for a change. I also liked the 2 psychopaths dancing around, I found it rather David Lynchesque.

waterlego · 02/01/2022 09:06

We binge watched it and enjoyed it. Yes, the Harlan Coben plots are always improbable and a bit daft but it was a fun watch overall. I guessed the killer but not til the second to last episode.

A post up thread mentioned The Innocents which is also on Netflix. I can’t recommend watching that one because it’s dubbed (it was a Spanish production). But far worse than that, it is absolutely full of gratuitous violence against women (usually scantily clad women as many of the characters are strippers/exotics dancers). I am not usually over sensitive about watching stuff like that, but this turned my stomach, both in the severity of the depiction of the violence, and the sheer amount of it. I couldn’t escape the feeling that it was intended to be titillating/pornographic there were so many graphic sex scenes alongside the violence. Yuck.

DartmoorChef · 06/01/2022 23:54

We just watched it all in one go. I love the books and I really enjoyed this. Yes there's a few scenes where you think wtf.. but overall we found it really entertaining. And lots of good actors too.
