Just that really. I love cookery shows but tonight all I have had to watch is James Whathisface - chef; now it’s Masterchef or Gordon Ramsey.

Why can’t we have someone normal chugging a large glass or two whilst pulling out random food from the larder.

And someone that doesn’t obviously have loads of cleaners to come along and clean up after them because they’ve used up every twattting pot, ladle, pastry brush and gadgetry thing that I don’t have.

Just bumping this for you, OP. Although I did sit transifixed, watching Nigella caressing some fairy lights while someone else cleared up roast duck and all the trimmings she'd just served. And it was quite good...

Masterchef is on far too often and most cookery shows don’t show recipes most of us would even want to eat let alone slave over a hot stove for hours preparing. 100% agree!

WonderingFree · 15/12/2021 19:11

Glad it’s not just me - I would love a programme where you got to have a sneak leak into peoples lifestyle and what folks were having for dinner too.

Thanks for the bump @HebeMumsnet

Too many food programs on TV full stop

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/12/2021 11:28

Masterchef on on far too often.

I'm completely over cookery programmes. It too much. So many people are struggling, climate emergency is there, caused my the huge demand for everything and there is so much waste and showing off on these programmes. I think they aren't showcasing skills, but also the latest fashionable ingredients.

They think that they can get away with one episode where kitchen waste is used, and that's that.

I was very pissed off with the Bake off, where one of the contestants continuously threw in the bin her cakes that didn't go well and started again from scratch. Bloody waste.

fruitpastille · 17/12/2021 11:34

Come dine with me is more 'real' when it comes to the cooking and kitchens. But it's quite silly otherwise. I wonder if there is a you tuber who does that kind of thing?

ilovesooty · 17/12/2021 11:40

You're seriously saying there was nothing on your TV but food programmes?

WonderingFree · 18/12/2021 13:09

No I was saying the only food programmes on were bloody chefs. So unrealistic. I got sucked into it at one time and bought all manner of ingredients- pomegranate molasses once and used it…once.

Why is it a problem that most cooking g shows are presented by chefs? And I don't think this is a new thing, TV shows have largely been from people with experience in the field. On building shows they have builders and electricians rather than Paul from IT completing the project. If you want to watch someone host a cooking show who can't cook then maybe Kay's Cooking on YouTube might suit you.

SpanielsAreMyLife · 18/12/2021 13:20

I've been addicted to Masterchef, and adore Marcus Wareing.

I'm a keen amateur chef and love watching the professionals...... I don't enjoy Nigella as she's too faffy and poncy with it all, it's like food porn.

The worst offenders IMO are the American ones..... some of the cake baking shows look revolting, so much artificial ingredients. I've watched the Barefoot Contessa who coats everything in as much fat and sugar as humanly possible, and Pioneer Woman who uses jarred sauces and tins of everything both in utter horror.

WonderingFree · 19/12/2021 11:54

@SpanielsAreMyLife I couldn’t agree more I watch Pioneer Woman aghast at the sheer amount of butter, cream, cheeeeese so much cheese and processed food that make up her family dinners.

I don't mind watching the Christmas stuff at all. What I do mind is they keep repeating the programmes.
The Hairy Bikers and that woman from the One Show... Alex Jones... as a prime example.. I have seen it twice at least. Is this some kind of circuit with 'rent a guest'?
James Martin and his mate and Fizz from Coronation Street ! They were on last year!
