Did anyone watch this (Olivia Coleman)? What did you think?

OP posts:
AppleJane · 12/12/2021 18:15

Are we allowed to post spoilers? There was an inheritance angle I hadn't heard before.

trickytrudy · 14/12/2021 18:49

Enjoyed it. Not your usual true crime drama and that's what I liked about it.

Guttedbuyer · 14/12/2021 18:54

I listened to the podcast of this case today not realising that’s what it was. Might watch tonight.

NecklessMumster · 14/12/2021 18:56

I thought it was amazing, it gave a feeling of her interior state of mind and the acting of OC and DT was brilliant

friedeggandsauce · 14/12/2021 22:40

We've just watched the first episode. I'm not entirely sure what I thought of it!!

AppleJane · 14/12/2021 23:28

@friedeggandsauce I nearly gave up after the first but it gets a lot better (or you fall in with the style of it)

@Guttedbuyer what's the podcast called please?

Guttedbuyer · 14/12/2021 23:50

It’s series 6 episode 15 of They Walk Among Us

IamGusFring · 15/12/2021 01:11

@Mydogisagentleman

We saw and loved the first episode. OC being OC as usual
I thought that - her usual toothy lispy way of talking ? Have read rave reviews but thought she was better in The Crown. Surely it's easier to play this kind of character ?
AppleJane · 15/12/2021 09:23

@Guttedbuyer

It’s series 6 episode 15 of They Walk Among Us
Thanks for that! I've heard of that series Smile
3kidsareenough · 15/12/2021 14:06

Finished it. I thought it was excellent. OC & DT were brilliant. The scene with OC in the dock was really sad & emotional. I wonder was her solicitor like that, seemed so kind.

Must listen to the TWAU podcast episode thanks Guttedbuyer love that series.

zafferana · 15/12/2021 14:27

I thought it was very strange with all the Western stuff - particularly the last episode. I thought by OC and DT were very good, couldn't stand the mouthy copper woman, thought her sidekick was a drip.

If it's true though that Susan Edwards' dad sexually abused her and that her parents emotionally and financially abused her I think her prison sentence was very harsh. If Chris Edwards shot them both and buried them in the garden, fine, 25 years seems fair, particularly as they didn't abuse him. I feel with regard with SE though that she's very unlikely to ever be a risk to anyone else. I mean, she didn't even kill her parents, after everything they did to her.

AppleJane · 15/12/2021 15:44

@zafferana I agree. There was more to the story than I previously knew. If the parents stole her inheritance from her granddad you can see how someone not totally stable might think 'well we'll steal off you then' and then it goes horribly wrong. Or just simply wanted revenge. But as her solicitor said 'not everything that happened was on you'.

RemorselessNorsemen · 16/12/2021 17:23

I really enjoyed it, it was laugh out loud in parts but very different to the standard handling of true life crime.
I agree if events were portrayed with any accuracy then Susan seemed almost childlike and incredibly vulnerable as an adult.

Rubytinsleslippers · 16/12/2021 17:41

I really enjoyed it. I liked that it wasn't the usual run of the mill format. I think mixing the fantasy world in was clever.
If he had just learnt French they would never been caught. Or is she got a job. They could have just lived out their lives quietly in France.

PrinzessinCressida · 20/12/2021 01:35

Nearly finished it - need to research the last episode as I got distracted wrapping. I'm very struck by it - the characterisation felt grim but real in a hopeless, "lives of quiet desperation" kind of way. Hard to explain. Excellent acting. I'd never heard of this case, so can't tell how much creative licence the programme makers took, but I imagine quite a bit.

DartmoorChef · 20/12/2021 01:39

Watched it all in one go the other night it was almost a black comedy really. Well written mainly but a bit strange.

AppleJane · 20/12/2021 11:19

They could have just lived out their lives quietly in France.

True but I think they panicked because the father had 'reached' 100 years old so sooner or later the pension thing was probably going to be investigated!

Clawdy · 21/12/2021 23:16

Very strange tonight! But gripping. Olivia C is always good, but she is wonderful in this.

WilliamofBaskerville · 22/12/2021 15:28

Had heard very good things about this, but didn’t even manage to finish the first episode. I didn’t realise it was going to be so surreal and dream sequency, I never get on with stuff like that. I thought David Thewlis was very good, as usual, but just couldn’t get into it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/01/2022 22:21

Really enjoyed it. Very different. Need to do some googling now!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 04/03/2022 22:06

Ive just seen the first episode and am enjoying it. OC always makes me forget shes OC after a couple of minutes. She is almost childlike. The film sequences are because the couple were obsessed with collecting hollywood memorabilia.
