Can anyone think of some? Seinfeld is shaping up pretty well so far.

Only Fools and Horses.

I still love the Good Life - but its Margo who steals the show for me

I'd also- tentatively- say Mr. Bean, although hard for it to be offensive with no speech!

ColleysMill · 06/12/2021 23:40

I'd love to rewatch Bread too

One Foot In The Grave is probably my favourite sitcom. I don't think it's aged too much, although some of the references to celebrities or politicians are a little out of date now. Still extremely watchable and there isn't a bad episode, imo. I quote it all the time ("Why the hell do you think I'm doing it? All because the lady loves Milk Tray!?" Grin). I've got it on DVD but did a little squeal of joy when I realised it's currently on iPlayer!

Agree with Red Dwarf, dinnerladies ("Are you implying I insert thrush into general conversation?"), Vicar of Dibley, Outnumbered, Frasier, Malcolm in the Middle, Father Ted and Black Books.

Also Spaced! It's very of it's time in some ways (the fashion, the video game scenes) but doesn't feel too badly aged in general.

Drop the Dead Donkey was so funny. Not sure how funny it would be now.
I loved Drop the Dead Donkey, it was repeated at one point and there was still a war in the same area so it seemed pretty accurate even on a second viewing!

Also Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister, Frasier and Dinnerladies. Loved Golden Girls at the time and would like to see that again, also used to watch a comedy called Soap - not sure how well that would stand the test of time.

'Allo 'Allo. I watched it recently and loved it. It didn't feel dated at all.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

The BBC seems to repeat Dad's Army on an infinite loop and I never tire of it.

My favourite sitcom of all time has always been, and still is, Fawlty Towers, but I know some people feel there are many offensive lines and storylines in there by modern standards.

One Foot in the Grave.

Fawlty Towers was offensive by the standards of the time! That was the point! My 2000s dc love it though!
Orpheline · 07/12/2021 09:13

I signed up to Britbox yesterday, specifically to watch One foot in the grave. There are loads of shows pp's have named, on there. It's on offer atm, at £29.99 for a year. Bargain!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/12/2021 09:40

Basil was rude to everyone, yes, which is a large part of why I like FT. Sybil was rude to Basil and saccharine to everyone else.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 07/12/2021 09:45

I regularly rewatch The Smoking Room.

At one level, of course it's aged; it's set in a company's smoking room, which wouldn't be allowed to exist now.

But the script and dialogue, as observations on how people who all basically hate their jobs work together, is fantastic and timeless.

I watched all of Drop the Dead Donkey a couple of years ago and it’s still surprisingly relevant and funny. You could change the names of the politicians and which countries are at war and it would still work today.
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 07/12/2021 09:55

It’s available on the Channel 4 website.

Yes Minster has aged like a fine wine - it's better now than it ever was. I managed to work a Sir Humphrey quote into an academic essay the other week.

Red Dwarf stands up pretty well. Blackadder and Father Ted

During lockdown I watched The Vicar of Dibley with DS13 and he LOVED it!

I could t agree more re Yes Minister. A long career in Defra/Maff has helped!
LindaEllen · 07/12/2021 10:46

@PerditaNitt

Father Ted - absolutely perfect.
We've been watching this recently. It's just brilliant.
kwiksavenofrillsusername · 08/12/2021 11:05

The only thing that has aged Red Dwarf is that some of the futuristic technology is old. But perhaps we go back to VHS tapes in the future?

I hadn’t properly watched One Foot in the Grave until recently and ended up bingeing the whole thing! Really great characters and gets quite surreal at times. I loved the episode with the play where Victor is laughing his arse off, while the actor is genuinely hurt.

Golden Girls is great too. I think it’s the chemistry between the main characters and the classic stories that make it still fun to watch. It looks very dated but that’s part of the charm.
