Can anyone think of some? Seinfeld is shaping up pretty well so far.

Father Ted

@Willowcat77

All of Graham Linehan's comedies are still really funny. Especially The IT Crowd and Black Books. I wish he'd write a new sitcom. Does anyone know if he's still writing?

I still like The Mighty Boosh, The League of Gentlemen and anything with Julia Davies, especially Nighty Night.

I think all of these comedies have aged well because they are so strongly character based. Who could ever forget Roy, Moss, Jenn and Richmond? 😀

He was working on a Father Ted musical but I don't think that's a live project at the moment. He's got very embroiled in the transgender debate and that's caused a lot of unpleasantness for him, including having the police turn up at his door, so he may be struggling to get any projects accepted at the moment. Sad

I opened this thread to say Seinfeld and Frasier. I was so happy when Seinfeld came into Netflix recently.

BadgeronaMoped · 06/12/2021 22:26

Spaced! Perfect late 90s/ early 00s time capsule, always makes me laugh.

Gingernaut · 06/12/2021 22:28

Yes, Minister
Yes, Prime Minister
Father Ted
Frazier

WilliamofBaskerville · 06/12/2021 22:30

I watched Fawlty Towers through again recently, and what shocked me is how young they are! The one where Sybil goes in to hospital you can see on her chart she is 36! Obviously it’s a classic but that really threw me - I’d assumed in my head they were in their 50s, they certainly act like they’ve been married thirty years… the fashions don’t help either 😁.

Campervan69 · 06/12/2021 22:31

Yes to Spaced. Recently rewatched with my 17 year old. He loved it as much as I did at the time and I loved it all over again.

Yes to Father Ted but I don't think anyone would commission Graham Linehan at the moment sadly.

Also adored Ab Fab and can't see why it would have aged.

GuyFawkesDay · 06/12/2021 22:32

Recently started watching 'Allo 'Allo on telly and some of those are absolutely hilarious.

Father Ted
Dinnerladies
Vicar of Dibley
Frasier

WobblyLondoner · 06/12/2021 22:36

@balancingfigure

Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister. It must be 40 odd years old but I watch it and think that probably happens now!
Yes, another fan here. My DS aged 13 loves it too. "Very Bernard" is a catchphrase in our house ...

Father Ted too. Ageless.

PieMistee · 06/12/2021 22:37

Half of the episodes of friends have some fucking awful casual sexism it homophobia.
Father Ted is amazing though my kids cringed at the jokes about paedophilia.
Spaced, IT crowd, Peep Show, Porridge (I think?!) All seem to still be rocking it.

WobblyLondoner · 06/12/2021 22:40

One series that I find almost unwatchable now but loved at the time - the good life. Quite excruciating.

ShowOfHands · 06/12/2021 22:42

Black Books and dinnerladies. I adore both.

RampantIvy · 06/12/2021 22:42

Sorry, but I found Fawlty Towers intensely irritating.

So many listed on here that I love. Can I add The Vicar of Dibley. I loved the joke at the end with Alice.

charlie10k · 06/12/2021 22:52

Malcolm in the Middle. Comedy gold for all the family.

Willowcat77 · 06/12/2021 22:57

Ah, that's such a shame. Comedy shouldn't be censored by Gender politics. Glinner is probably the best comedy writer of his generation. I'm convinced he's got several great sitcoms still in him if given the chance!

Campervan69 · 06/12/2021 23:00

Agree Willow maybe he needs to write one about all this gender nonsense. The world's gone so mad it's almost writing itself atm.

Willowcat77 · 06/12/2021 23:02

Sorry, I meant my last post to be a reply to @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

RedDeadRoach · 06/12/2021 23:03

Linehan was one of the writers on motherland which is fairly recent and very funny. Not sure how much of it he wrote.

Vicar of Dibley aged ok i think. It still gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, especially the xmas special with all the Christmas dinners.

StormBaby · 06/12/2021 23:08

King of queens
Father ted

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 06/12/2021 23:11

AmIgoinghomeforXmas · 06/12/2021 23:11

Father Ted
Black books
Fresh Prince actually stands up well, been rewatching with teen dc.

Can't believe how much porn was in friends rewatching it with teens.

Blackadder is still funny but pretty homophobic at times.

Yes minister is more applicable than ever.

I will always like Fraiser

SkiingIsHeaven · 06/12/2021 23:21

Planes, trains and automobiles.

Notlostjustexploring · 06/12/2021 23:28

I adore dinnerladies and Vicar of Dibley. Both so funny and warm. I forget how excellent dinnerladies actually is until I watch it again. Every line is golden!!

RampantIvy · 06/12/2021 23:32

Drop the Dead Donkey was so funny. Not sure how funny it would be now.

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 06/12/2021 23:33

Absolutely fabulous. It looks ridiculous, but that was the point at the time! And it is so funny.
