F.R.I.E.N.D.S - If you had to lose one character, who would it be?

Just for fun!

So, I'm re-watching Friends all over again and I'm loving it! I definitely appreciate it way more than I ever did during its original run; however, another thread that was posted here got me thinking - if you HAD to lose one character from Friends, who would it be, and why?

Phoebe. In the later series she was really mean.

I love Ross. The show wouldn't have been the same without him.

Interesting No one wants to ditch Rachel - I don’t either as she was a great character, but she was quite selfish, loved herself etc etc

Rachel and Joey made no sense whatsoever. They started dumbing down rachel’s character to attempt to make it work. It didnt.

I would remove Joey. Or significantly lessen his role.

The general consensus on MN is that Ross was abusive but I don’t see it myself.
The example that really stood out recently to me is one of the early episodes where Rachel accidentally loses Marcel the monkey. She apologises to Ross and is doing all she can to get the money found but Ross won’t let it go, she’s backing away from him in the apartment but he keeps coming forward into her face berating her. I couldn’t see any comedy in that scene, just a bullying man.

  1. Ross (sorry but I laughed at him almost as much as the Chan Chan Man.
  2. Rachel & Monica- much of a muchness
  3. Joey- found him unrealistically stupid most of the time. For example that episode where he is trying to learn french. FailL

My favourite character is Ross followed by Joey then it's Phoebe, Chandler, Rachel with Monica last.

Monica - her character just doesn't make me laugh as much as the others. I find some of Rachel's story lines a bit tedious too. I'll stick up for Phoebe though! I love the contrast between hippy-dippy Phoebe and tough-girl-from-the-streets Phoebe.

I do find the in depth analysis of the characters and their behaviour on these Friends threads a bit weird though! It's just a comedy and written for laughs.

Yes, Phoebe here too. She did have some very funny lines, but I think the whole 'ditzy' thing was overegged at times and got a bit annoying.

Why do people think she was an awful person though, can people give examples?

Ross was a dick but also had some of the best episodes in the entire show so you couldn't drop him!

I'm rewatching Friends atm, Phoebe can be annoying but tbh they all can be!! They're all selfish to a degree.

Ross is a nightmare, he was a terrible jealous and possessive boyfriend and completely hated it once Rachel began to be more successful in her career.

My favourite character is Chandler, he has the most consistent personality and was genuinely funny and caring about the group.

If I had to lose one of them agree it would be Phoebe though!
