I'm a late arrival to Chesapeake Shores and am totally obsessed (Binge watching and mid Series 3) but have really come here in the hope to find people to first help me on my quest to turn my life in to Chesapeak Shores and second join in my ranting.

If you aren't familiar with this joy, it is easy watching on Netflix - Hallmark style - similar vibe to a Christmas movie. Lovely setting. Beautiful people finding love in a small town. Big city bad. Nearest smaller city better. Small town best of all.

GOOD

It's lovely. Soft easy delicious viewing. Looks awesome.

SO WHERE/HOW can I make my life more Chesapeake Shores???

Do I need to move to be by the sea? Can I have Chesapeak Shoreness in the UK? How do I get that? Do I need to move to Vancouver Island where they film it?

What do I need to make my life like this???? I don't have a million siblings which is major handicap.

I found this page of Chesapeake Stores style btw way if anyone wants to join me in this madness.

www.hallmarkchannel.com/chesapeake-shores/style

Please note my new user name. I am very self aware of my foolishness.

It's gloriously unreal - even in a awful bits of life the sweetness shines through.

Another to try along the same vein is When Calls the Heart - utterly ridiculous - set in the 1800's but every second outfit looks like it was bought last year and everything is almost rosy and sweet, even when everything is going wrong.

GrouchyKiwi · 01/11/2021 20:28

Ah, it's so ridiculous but indeed very soothing. It's nice to have a screen full of pretty people (though I find Connor perplexing; how old is he meant to be? He looks in his 40s.) It's also weird to see Treat Williams playing a regular chap instead of a Vaudeville villain. Grin

I've watched a lot of Heartland but we're on a break right now. Lou was annoying me too much. DH calls it My Big Pony.

I gave up on When Calls The Heart; I couldn't stand how saccharine it was, even though that was my thing at the time.

@GrouchyKiwi I don't know Treat Williams as I've never seen him in anything else.

I'm highly suspicious of a grown man who would go by the name of "Treat" I must say. It makes me feel slightly sick.

Do you think he says to his wife "Would you like a Treat tonight?"

He's quite good in this role although I think he has an optimistic view of his age playing range. He's obviously much, much older than he is supposed to be here.

Connor really reminds me of someone but I can't place him. It's the eyebrows I think.

though I find Connor perplexing; how old is he meant to be? He looks in his 40s.)

You posting this made me just looked him up. Interestingly the actors wikipedia page has no date of birth. On other pages his date of birth is given as 1985 which would make him 36 (yeah right!) but his IMDB pages says he started voicework at the age of 9 years old. His first voice credit (which may not be his first 9 year old performance) is given as 1989

www.imdb.com/name/nm0290075/

which would mean his dob was 1980 which would make him now 41 which sounds a bit more realistic.

Has anyone read the books? If you have, how do they compare to the TV series? Will it help me get a fix of my addiction when I get to the end of the TV series or will I be disappointed?

@ChesapeakeEmbarrassed - Do you think he says to his wife "Would you like a Treat tonight?" That made me snort.

He was a real Treat in Everwood as a big city doctor moving to a small rural town to rebuild his life with his kids. From your list other classics you've watched it would be right up your alley. Though it was 2002-06 so not sure if its on anywhere now (poss reruns on Hallmark channel?).

I'm still on season 1 (DH refuses to watch it with me) and while watching last night I saw a scene between Kevin and Connor that was actually credible. Nearly ruined the whole thing.

Further Season 4/5 SPOILERS and more a sadness that it seems to be on the wain

I am very upset to say that I think (now starting season 5) that the wonderous Chesapeak Shores may have jumped the shark - probably mid/early season 4.

Bree has no story line of interest since the Simon plot ended.

The new teacher bloke for Abby is chemistry free and very dull.

Abby (who is really attractive IMHO) has a terrible boxy fringe hair cut that makes her look dreadful. For some reason, it does something weird to her facial proportions that make it seem as if her teeth are sticking out oddly/has a strange overbite - which I don't think she does at all. Look at this picture to see what I mean:

hallmark.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/2f8fc7b/2147483647/strip/true/crop/720x990+0+0/resize/840x1155!/quality/90/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fhallmark-channel-brightspot.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fe2%2F6e%2F4a8921594ce2813fc120163399fd%2Fseason5.jpg

As compared to her previous hairstyle:
hallmark.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/560f1d3/2147483647/strip/true/crop/720x990+0+0/resize/840x1155!/quality/90/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fhallmark-channel-brightspot.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fa3%2Fdc%2Fac003eeb41d9986d23ec5cdfad4e%2Fseason3.jpg

I can't actually believe that a hairstyle could have such a dramatic impact on how someone looks.

The fact that the mother and father are trying to get back together is of no interest, totally unrealistic and very cringey.

The Trace singing is becoming even more annoying if that were possible. More stuff to just fastforward.

Connor has broken up with Danielle and his story is now just about which law firm he should work at.

Kevin and Sarah - no words.

And the annoying Jess. Still very annoying.

Axel the dog has gone missing again.

The bookstore now seems to be a half timbered building with an even bigger/cafe tables outside. Where do they get the coffee from?

Oooh - Everwood sounds good. I will have to check that out.

You made me LOL with your last para above about Kevin & Connor!

I loved Virgin River which led me to Chesapeake Shores. I watched a few episodes and gave up. It was just so slow. I then tried Sweet Magnolias but dunt really likd that either. Perhaps they were just a let down after the greatness of VR.

This is hilarious! My DD9 discovered it and now has me hooked!
