Watched the first episode. I'm not a big sci-fi person but find myself thinking about it and looking forward to watching another. Anyone watched it? Anyone read the books? (I haven't).
I kind of love the hugeness of the premise and the ideas. And I adore Jared Harris.
Downsides: there was a lot of smell-the-fart acting. And, maybe it's just my brain/imagination wiring, but I never quite know what I'm looking at in sci-fi when there's things like massive glittery structures with ladders, and vessels flying round them, and all that gubbins.

But I am sticking with it, for now at least. Interested to hear others' views.

We haven't watched it yet but DP has read all the books and we are looking forward to watching it. Sounds good. Glad Jared Harris is in it!

Do let me know what you think. I've watched the second one now. Am simultaneously more interested and less interested in carrying on, for different reasons...
My DP read the books ages ago and dimly remembers/thinks that the series is taking elements from all of them and maybe changing the order, and adding characters. Par for the course for adaptations, I know, and doesn't matter to me as I haven't read them.

Will do I think they may have condensed a couple of characters from the book into one character but it shouldn't change the storyline in a major way. Hopefully if it gets good ratings it will be on for more than one series.

I’ve always been on the point of reading the books but never got round to it. Had high hopes of this serialisation.

But it’s just disappointing. Overblown nonsense. Turgid dialogue. Dreadful, dreadful ‘Empire’ costumes. I’ve seen the first three and there’s an element of forcing myself to stick with it, in case it gets better.

I read the books while bored and living with a BF back in the 80s. I read them all, and they were a jumble, so looking forward to the show. Seen the first 2 episodes, and not terribly impressed so far (sci-fi is not my thing really)
