Hurrah! That is all.

OP posts:
TheDogsMother · 28/09/2021 21:23

I think Maggie might scrape through.

bibliomania · 28/09/2021 21:24

The snooker table was original

TheDogsMother · 28/09/2021 21:26

Ahh good episode. Lovely to catch up everyone.

sleepykits · 28/09/2021 21:26

Night all!

viques · 28/09/2021 21:27

At least someone answered the phone this week.

jay55 · 28/09/2021 21:28

Yay for bread week.

MrsFionaCharming · 28/09/2021 21:30

A few uncomfortable moments where Noel and Matt made a joke and barely got a reaction.

I loved Freya’s rocking horse!

AppleKatie · 28/09/2021 21:52

Enjoyed tonight, might watch again for the detail if I can find time.

It did feel quite long, even with fast forwarding most of the ads.

No idea how Amanda got through. Felt for Maggie- she was really worried but I was pretty sure she’d get through. Hopefully she will improve.

Looking forward to bread week, it’s always fun.

derxa · 28/09/2021 22:17

love Maggie

TSSDNCOP · 28/09/2021 22:28

God I'm so glad you're all noticing the sound, I can't hear the talkiovers but the bakers and 4 leads are SHOUTING

PeriChristmas · 28/09/2021 22:35

@TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong

We usually watch slightly delayed so we can skip the ads...
Arrrgh the ads 🙈 So doing this next week!
PeriChristmas · 28/09/2021 22:38

@SchadenfreudePersonified

I like Jurgen. He sounds like the Three Little Pigs off Shrek!
🤣

Noël and Matt are getting on my nerves, Matt particularly. There's no need for their unfunny skits every time they give a time check. I'd rather see more of the bakers.
Dancingonmoonlight · 29/09/2021 09:06

I’m sure whatever they say their favourite toy is whatever the easiest one with impact Is to make. Same with their childhood memory and every other theme.

I’d never watch it in real time due to the sheer no of ad breaks so I record it and even being able to fast forward, the ads were ridiculously too many and too long. It really takes away from the programme.

Fizbosshoes · 29/09/2021 09:36

Again I think that having a 3d biscuit structure with a moving or interactive element is basically set up for failure.
There were some really good ones (Freyas was amazing and she finished with loads of time to spare - and tried to help Amanda) but lots that ran out of time or went wrong. And (probably going to be flamed) George's plane was fairly messy as an actual cake/biscuit - i think the fact it had a motor and moved as it was meant to - saved it....but that aspect isn't really baking...?
Also wasnt jairzens boat meant to have lights? I thought I saw a battery pack of LED type fairy lights attached to it, but they didn't mention them or turn them on (that I saw)

SkepticalCat · 29/09/2021 10:19

I know the judges weren't convinced that Maggie's construction met the brief, and I wasn't sure either.

Even if you didn't have many toys or a favourite toy as a child, wouldn't you just make one up? Off the top of my head - a dolls' house, spinning top, jack-in-box.

I thought the snooker table was great. Really effective and possibly not too tricky. My mum made my brother a snooker table birthday cake one year.

I thought the same re: George's plane, that the motor element saved it.

Also agree about the unfunny jokes. What Matt said about Paul Hollywood possibly being George's(?) father. Totally unnecessary and insulting. Not sure how that made the cut.

EsmaCannonball · 29/09/2021 10:22

Still love Jurgen and Giuseppe. Nice to see bakers who are knowledgeable and skilled.

Bit tired of the Biscuit Week showstopper essentially being 'make a structure out of gingerbread.' It's always bloody gingerbread.

Noel, Matt and Prue aren't doing it for me. Matt is just irritating.

www.horlicks.co.uk/recipes/posts/horlicks-malt-loaf/

Horlicks has created a malt loaf recipe, without the dried fruit for those who don't like it.

I was thinking about making it, but I only have Ovaltine, and not Horlicks (would that work??). I also don't have any malt syrup.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 29/09/2021 10:37

Yeah its all getting a bit too much fuss with the structural stuff. I mean, I love to see he bread sculptures, Like Pauls Lion from years ago, that was amazing, but I don't care so much about gravity defying or basket weaving etc

That said, Freyas rocking horse was amazing, she's a lot less annoying this week too, I hope she does well!

Oooh thank you for that! Though I do like the fruit in a malt loaf but I don't have any malt extract, so I wonder if a combined recipe would work? Hmm

When I did Cookery at school we had to make, say, a Victoria sponge and the teacher marked it on the degree of sponginess, the texture of the surface and the shape of the holes on top. I would like to see some simpler bakes like Victoria Sponge, fatless sponge, scones etc judged really strictly with some useful baking tips.

Fizbosshoes · 29/09/2021 11:38

I guess though for the producers, impressive cakes (and impressive fails) and the element of risk (and potentially someone crying after 4 hrs work collapses Sad) makes better tv ...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/09/2021 11:59

For the first time ever, I was able to think of a bake I would do, that fulfilled the brief.

When my sister and I were little, my dad made us a zoo play set - basically a board that hinged in the middle (so it could be folded up and put away) with paths, grassy bits and ponds etc painted on. We had fences that clipped together so we could make whatever enclosures we wanted, and animals to put in them.

I reckon I could have made that in biscuit.

Ds2 is a teacher, and some of his school staff do a sweepstake - whoever gets the baker who is eliminated, has to bake something for everyone to have on Friday.

Yes, sadly, you are right.

I'd like that. More like a village show. Liverpool woman to go next, please.
