Erm, how did the Mike Reid character actually earn his money? Suspect we're not talking legally here.

RudyDudy · 16/11/2004 22:11

would you really ff? do you mind if i ask why?

unicorn · 16/11/2004 22:13

does anyone ever think that this could all be acted?

I know I am deeply suspicious- but sometimes (as in tonight) there was a hell of a lot of 'conforming' to stereotype.

Also why would that man get 'dolled up' as a woman?
Either being paid, or acting I think.
Reminded us of those Dear Deidre(?) case studies in The Sun (posed by models)

I would love to be told it is all legitimate.(any producers out there?!!)

Tinker · 16/11/2004 22:16

I did suspect this one was acted as well actually. Are people really that stereotypical?

RudyDudy · 16/11/2004 22:16

I thought him getting 'dolled up' seemed very out of character - and wondered where he got a women's top that fitted him???

I can't believe they'd get away with it being acted as it would be bound to leak in the tabloids, don't you think? but i wouldn't be surprised if they don't suggest things to the participants to 'get things going'.

what is staged is the whole way it is put together to show people in their worst possible light (that's why i really don't understand anyone wanting to go on it).

tbh haven't watched it for ages and not sure I will again after tonights!

unicorn · 16/11/2004 22:37

dunno about the tabloids..

but 'reality tv' is becoming.. 'what television producers think is reality tv'.

And it seems some people are prepared to let themselves be' directed'...
so where indeed is the 'reality'?

Am afraid reality is just too damn boring... it just has to be produced- and edited!!

Why would i do it, god knows, i suppose i wonder how someone would be in my role, find it interesting

libb · 16/11/2004 23:15

I don't think they'd be able to find a good enough person to match you with . . . so you wouldn't be able to do it.

fairyfly · 16/11/2004 23:25

oh libb, they would just have to ring you

joanneg · 17/11/2004 09:30

The couple that thought that they were posh live near me and I am sad to say that there are a lot of people like this around here. Lots of stereotypes, so it probably wasnt acted!

pupuce · 17/11/2004 09:44

I think they spent a lot of money on clothes and outings.... the kitchen didn't look good either....

Northerner · 17/11/2004 09:46

The 'rich' woman was so far up her own backside I wanted to punch her. Her comments about the other couples house and the area they lived in were bang out of order.

Sozie · 17/11/2004 09:56

I am from Essex and can confirm these people were NOT acting, unfortunately. I live quite near Dagenham where the Leeza lived and can confirm Dagenham is not the nicest area in Essex. Essex is always portrayed this way though on tv but the programme have picked the oddest couples they could find imho. We're not all like this .

woodpops · 17/11/2004 09:56

THe rich woman thought she was so classy. Who'd have light wood floors with dark wood furniture?? Only in Essex

noddy5 · 17/11/2004 09:59

everything about the 'posh'??!! ones was tragic.Their awful house and garden the clothes and their language they were thick as .They were the ultimate dunalrights! This programme picks the lowest common denominator I'm sure

Sozie · 17/11/2004 10:00

SueW, just to answer your point re house costs - bascially yes - Dagenham is all council houses or ex council houses in the borough of Barking and Dagenham which is classed as a poorer area - a 3 bed would be about £140K then there are areas such as Chigwell in the borough of Redbridge and Emerson Park in the borough of Havering which are referred to as millionaires row.
