So she asked for an egg and tomato roll, then said “And I’ll have one of those.” What the heck was it, it looked very odd!

Just looked up seaside sandwich to see if its origin was discussed, but all I can find is that It's a traditional cheap sandwich to make for family days out at the seaside. Fair enough I guess. They do egg and tomato sandwiches in M&S...

Cassimin · 30/08/2021 00:03

RightOnTheEdge I thought it looked like a pineapple tart.
Looked lovely whatever it was.

I haven't seen pineapple tarts since I was young. 🙁

Smidge001 · 30/08/2021 00:34

The M&S egg and tomato sandwich is the BEST!

DrFoxtrot · 30/08/2021 00:55

I have never seen pineapple tarts or these peach melbas Shock are they only a NE thing?

MrsEWeatherwax · 30/08/2021 02:01

It was a peach melba. Definitely a north east thing. Pastry case with a bit of peach then whipped cream, then covered in correct colour icing. Very nice but not healthy or easy to eat.
That cafe was Citrone's.

iwishiwasonhol · 30/08/2021 07:08

not had a peach melba in years ,bloody lovely will have to see if i can find somewhere that still sells them

VanishingAct · 30/08/2021 13:32

@RightOnTheEdge

Peach melba?
My inner teenage boy is dying to pop a glacé cherry on each of those.
TabbyM · 30/08/2021 16:43

I assumed a pineapple cake but will keep an eye out for peach melba next time "down south"

Mrsjayy · 31/08/2021 20:41

We get pineapple tarts in Scotland but I've not seen a peach melba I want one now ! I thought it was a pineapple tart.

PyjamaFan · 01/09/2021 13:04

I love Vera.

And I love that she ate her cake messily and just doesn't care.

It is a great tragedy that you can't get Gregg's stotties south of Washington services.

NapoleonOzmolysis · 01/09/2021 13:07

And she doesn't share with Aiden either.

Wendsleydale · 01/09/2021 13:08

I wondered that too. Love that Vera's back for another season but assume it was filmed with Covid in mind as the filming was a bit odd

Mrsjayy · 01/09/2021 13:30

Yes Brenda Blethyn was on TV yesterday it was filmed during restrictions.

Shangrilalala · 01/09/2021 13:32

Stotties available as far south as Scotch Corner services. We often stop by for a last minute stock up if the Quayside Greggs is sold out.

That's the North East way to eat a peach melba lol Very very messily
Lowlifeinhighplaces · 01/09/2021 13:39

But Greggs stotties are not really the 'real' deal though, they are too soft not like in the dark ages when they were dense with a covering of flour so thick you could make another batch.

But I do love a peach melba, not had one for years.....

MrsEWeatherwax · 01/09/2021 22:24

You don’t share peach melba unless you are my DM and you give your DH ( my DF) the pastry base.
There was another shop in Chester le Street( where cafe was filmed) that use to sell giant peach melba’s.
I was going to say they sell stotties in Chester le Street and Durham and they are south of Washington services!
I was impressed that you couldn’t see the crowds that turned up for the filming, most excitement Chester’s had since the International cricket.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/09/2021 12:07

M&S sell pineapple tarts. I only know this because Ocado sent me a box as a substitution for custard tarts. Very nice they were too.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 06/09/2021 12:08

I didn't watch it, but I was intrigued.
