I'm 36 and have such fond memories of great things shows from after school like art attack, how, fun house, byker grove! What happened to it all and live n kicking and smtv live on Saturdays!

I feel like now there are that many options people aren't watching the same thing so how do kids share their tv experiences? We only had 5 channels back then but it kind of felt like everyone was watching the same shows now fo kids just watch loads of stuff over differnt platforms? I have a young daughter and feel so sad she'll never watch fun house or the many amazing 90s shows there were for kids when I was young, or am I missing the boat, where is all the fun at for them nowadays??

Yes I agree! I loved things like The Queens Nose and The Wild House (?).

There's just so much content out there now and so many options that I don't think even CBeebies / cbbc can compete. I'm not even sure how many viewers shows like Newsround and Blue Peter get anymore?

Though saying that, there has been some good new shows recently like Mallory Towers adaptation, and the new series of Demon Headmaster (though it wasn't as good as the original obviously!)

Comedycook · 10/08/2021 17:59

Cbbc is a fantastic channel imo. Loads of good stuff. But TV watching in general has massively changed.

nevernotstruggling · 10/08/2021 18:02

I remember seeing number 73 for the very first time in the late 80's and thinking it was amazing!!
Smtv or whatever followed by the Pepsi chart show that was living!!

itscomplicatedlife · 10/08/2021 18:25

Yes the queens nose and demon headmaster! It just feels like there is that much stuff but it's spread out like it's the fact there was just a selection of regular shows that you got in to so much as a kid and looked forward too, it's hard to explain what I mean but do you think they would still appreciate the golden oldie films like gremlins, back to the future, grease and home alone? I really hope so! Just feels like being a kid now i just don't know if it's as fun or I'm getting old and can't see where it's all at for them. It's even like our old corner shop, odd subject but it was heaven! Full of sweets totally not deemed great but it was fun!!! Most corner shops are now coops and they have no individuality! I'm thinking I'd love to open a proper old fashioned sweet shop locally but think the pc no sugar and no fun police would be on my back before I even opened the doors!!

Does, you didn't need to do a lot outside with all this I just loved it! The 80s and 90s were the golden tv era in my view or slightly leaning as it was my home years also but yes fab memories

I recently showed my DD (8) some eps of Knightmare on YouTube - she really got into it!

maisiemoolou · 11/08/2021 13:44

One of my faves was Spatz on CITV about an American style diner!!! Loved it!

Also Sunday mornings Saved By The Bell 😁

Lou2284 · 11/08/2021 13:49

TV on a Saturday night was great! Baywatch, Gladiators/you bet, followed by Blind Date.
Or on a Sunday morning on channel 4, Saved by the Bell, California Dreams and Pugwall . Ahhhhhh the good old days Smile

Noshowwithoutpunch · 11/08/2021 13:51

jakesmommy · 11/08/2021 15:37

I'm 39, although we had fewer channels the childrens TV shows and cartoons of the 80s and 90s were the best, I remember coming home from school looking forward to Philip Schofield/Andy Peters in the Broom Cupboard watching shows such as Blue Peter, Grange Hill, Round the Twist, Knightmare, Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Ewoks, Shoe People, Raggy Dolls etc and Saturday and Sunday morning cartoons, Prince Valiant, Mask, Transformers, Belle and Sebastian, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Kissyfur so many good memories.

YouHaveBeenWatching · 11/08/2021 15:53

The Goosebumps tv series is on prime at the moment and I watched a couple last week and couldn't believe how crappy they were but the monsters themselves were quite terrifying!
They looked like they filmed in the 70s with non professional actors not thhe mid 90s. So funny Grin

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 11/08/2021 18:11

Why don't you? Always on through the holidays and gave us loads of ideas
Used to love Saturday morning, cartoons like gummy bears, the raccoons and dukula, dexters lab and Johnny bravo. Then there was Sunday morning (had to clean my room on Sunday) with the waltons, little house on the prairie, land of the giants and then a loooong wait until the eastenders omnibus.

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 11/08/2021 18:13

Sorry forgot to add how2, think that's what it was called, I'm sure it had carol vorderman in it. Was a science type programme that explained how things worked and interesting experiments.

I remember it.

It saddens me actually that there isn't much kids TV on the main channels these days.

Onetraumaatatimeplease · 11/08/2021 22:20

It is sad. I think kids tv was for entertainment and education (I have a vague memory of a program on the beeb that had a little floating cube thing with arms) when I was young. Now it's seems like they are made to sell the merchandise first.

ballsdeep · 11/08/2021 22:24

Misspacorabanne · 11/08/2021 22:34

Yes I get really nostalgic thinking back to growing up in the 90s, and wonder if my own DCs will look back and have the same find memories of their own childhood.
I loved the fact that you had to watch what was on... and maybe wait a while week for your favourite tv show to be shown again... My DC will ask for what they wants on tv and because of modern day technology it can be on in seconds!
I remember all the shows mentioned above,
Playdays,
Art attack,
Bodger and badger,
Chuckle brothers. Smile

Tulips15 · 11/08/2021 22:36

FruityPolos · 11/08/2021 22:39

I have so many theme tunes in my head now thanks to this thread! Can't believe how much of my memory is taken up with old TV theme tunes. PP mentioned Pugwall - (sings to self) Nobody tells me what to do, no not me ... :D

orangejuicer · 11/08/2021 22:39

Did anybody watch the Odyssey? I have never found anyone else who did but I didn't imagine it!
