Marmite as he is, the insight into our farming is alarming. It's worth watching for the characters.

I laughed out loud at the veg planting machine - goodness knows where they found that.
But he said at one point that he'd never been happier - I could believe it he's having great fun.

stupidstupider · 30/06/2021 14:05

Why did you find the veg planting machine funny? How do you thing that your veg plants get planted, magic pixies?

Great education for the general public in agriculture in the UK. Hope the producers of countryfile were watching - they might find some actual agriculture to put in their pointless program. Farmers are loving it, not being irritated by it, gives a glimpse into everyday life. I know a few Kalebs - bright, witty, driven, happy and successful but people look down on them for driving tractors rather than accumulating debt and a sense of superiority and entitlement from university.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/06/2021 14:24

We binge watched this, and absolutely loved it! A perfect mixture of Clarkson being stereotypically himself (buying a Lamborghini tractor that wouldn't fit in his barn), amazing characters, and good insights into the very real struggles that all farmers face. Well worth the cost of Amazon Prime, IMO.

I’m so glad there’s going to be a second series.

I think that JC was trying to give Kaleb wings (with a film crew) by sending him to London. That will have been curtailed now that he has a new baby, with a beautiful girlfriend.

Best TV for years. Farmers on Twitter love it. I could relate to his dead tup. It died of a twisted gut having seemed perfectly healthy. I often relate the tale on here of when my shepherd and I cried in the middle of the field when our best ram died out of the blue. The woman shepherd who helped Jeremy with his lambing is on Twitter was thrilled with the whole thing. I asked her if Jeremy really did the night lambing checks and he did. It makes a change from the whole world shouting at us and accusing of voting for and causing Brexit all the time. I echo @Scrowy 's remarks

LittleMissSneezy · 04/07/2021 06:43

I loved it. I'm not a farmer but my family are and it totally highlighted their struggles.

My sister is a crop farmer and the frustrations with the weather and timing of harvest are exactly what dominates her life and can completely change their finances.

I also laughed at JC leaving the hedge high so people couldn't see his shit tramlines. My sister is v proud of her nice tramlines Grin

As someone else said up thread, it probably did more for farmers and farming than rubbish countryfile that is so out of touch with the real issues

LunaDeet · 04/07/2021 07:13

Please also check out Harry’s Farm on YouTube. He’s been farming for over 20 years and he really gets to the heart of the issues British farmers are facing right now.

Loved it! Farming is ridiculously hard work.

Longestfewdaysupcoming · 04/07/2021 07:49

I didn’t expect to like it but I loved it.

DragonTeeth · 04/07/2021 08:01

Loved it! Glad they are doing a second series.

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2021 08:05

We are three episodes in, really enjoying it and Kaleb is a star. According to his Instagram his other half has made him go to Stratford for the weekend and he’s not too sure. Grin
I have read that the roads around Diddly Squat farm shop have been gridlocked and the locals are not best pleased though.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 04/07/2021 08:15

All my family are farmers and we loved it. I've yet to speak to a farmer who hasn't enjoyed it. He shows exactly how precarious a business it is,when your best laid plans can be scuppered by weather/ disease/ red tape/ machinery breakdowns. It is far far superior to Countryfile, who seem to view rural areas as a giant playground, there for the benefit of visitors.

Caleb is great. I know many Caleb's and they are all bright, successful hard working young men. Ironically they are the type that many on MN would ridicule for not having a degree, not having lived away from home, travelled ect. I see it time and time again in threads about moving to the countryside, mocking people in rural areas for not being cosmopolitan or diverse enough. These are the people who make the countryside what it is. These are the people who feed you.
Good on Jeremy for doing this series.

Well said TheFnoz It's amazing how MN is supposed to be left wing and yet despise the Calebs of this world. They don't know anyone like Caleb because they're stuck in their middle class urban bubble.. People like this run the country
Jubbies · 04/07/2021 08:38

@Cocolapew

I read today a second series has been commissioned. I've 2 to go and I love it, I was a JC to start with though. Gerald is amazingGrin
Jeremy tweeted this the other day "Dear everyone. There has been some speculation that a second series of our farming programme has been commissioned. It hasn’t but we are hopeful." Can't see Amazon passing it up though, we loved it.
tractorkeys · 04/07/2021 15:17

We really enjoyed it. Loved how Kaleb wasn’t phased by JC and said it as it is. Loved Gerald too. Thought Lisa was lovely and Charlie great. Just really good TV and I hope more comes from it.

Interesting, emotional (the sheeps) and educational too.

They’re very common so wasn’t something that was contrived for the programme. There’s one parked beside my house right now. It belongs to the neighbouring farm.

AlanThePig · 05/07/2021 11:51

I'd got tears rolling down my cheeks at Gerald. Best thing I've watched in a very long time and cant wait for DH to get in to watch the next episode.

MissDollyMix · 13/07/2021 12:07

Just catching up with this. Absolutely agree with others, best thing I've watched in a while. Living in a farming community I thought I understood quite a lot but this has been so educational. Actually think kids should watch this (or something like this) at school.

Scrowy · 13/07/2021 12:31

It's in the news this morning that Amazon have decided not to commission another series.

JC is encouraging people to write to Amazon and complain

I'm getting a whiff of a publicity stunt, but equally it's not showing up without having to search for it so Amazon don't seem to pushing publicity for it like they were originally.

Where have you seen that? On Twitter someone asks Jeremy about it:

And Amozon have said they won't be making a 2nd series, absolute disgrace as it's the best programme on TV. Fuming 🤬

To which he replies:

That’s just the communists at the Mirror being mischievous. I shouldn’t pay any attention to it

midsomermurderess · 13/07/2021 13:10

He clearly found all the regulation etc very frustrating and would have liked to bypass them, but he didn't, did he. Charlie wouldn't have stood for that nonsense.
I enjoyed it, much more than I has expected, and found him more likeable too, although 'I did a thing!' got quickly tiresome.
It was an eye-opener to me too about some of the harsh realities of farming and how very precarious a living it is. Most are going to be stuffed when the subsidies stop.

midsomermurderess · 13/07/2021 13:13

And If you are going to snidely have a go about the users of this site (yes, all of us, metropolitan-elite middle-class exploiters to a woman) despising the likes of "Caleb', at least spell his name right. I mean given that you care, you really, really care.

purplesequins · 13/07/2021 13:14

I'm watching with my dc (pre-teen and teens)

I a bit Confused about the amazon age rating. it's a 16.
why?
yes, there is swearing, but not more than you hear in regular pop songs.

we love it and the dc are astounded about how much work is involved growing our food.
