Marmite as he is, the insight into our farming is alarming. It's worth watching for the characters.

Yes we loved this too, the farm is beautiful and it was really funny and interesting to watch as well as highlighting some important issues. One of the best things Clarkson has ever done.

I had seen clips popping up on my Facebook feed & then bingewatched 3 episodes, I'm going to start from the beginning again with my mum.

It really changed my opinion of JC, especially his relationship with the sheep and lambs.

I thought the bit where he sent Caleb to London had a serious message. He went all that way with an expensive ingredient and made no money because of the charges and fines. Showed how difficult it is for specialist traders to do business in the capital.

I watched the first one tonight, really enjoyable. Looking forward to the rest.

I didn't expect too but I really enjoyed it! Like many others I'm not a big fan of JC but despite the odd knob-ish moment he came across really well and like he genuinely did care (although I would be interest to know how much work he really does in reality when the tv crews aren't there).

It's shocking to see just how little farmers can make after all the hard work they put in, the thought of what it will be like after subsidies end is scary. Cheerful Charlie was incredibly knowledgeable and absolutely loved Kaleb and Gerald, I think the London trip just highlighted how different a world it is to so many people living outside of big towns/cities.

Didn't expect to like it. But then binged it all in a day. So interesting - what farmers have to put up with with bureaucracy and weather. And Gerald - who the hell was he talking about and Kaleb with his different hairstyles and when he went to London. Genius Mr Clarkson, Genius.

I don't agree with that at all, anyone who was serious about making money wouldn't have driven a truck into central London to sell something that could be transported in a carrier bag on the tube/train. I thought that was the silliest bit of the whole series, a bit too Top Gear and actually spoiled it a bit. There are restaurants in the Cotswolds too.

@BirdsandBeesmakinghay

Loved it! I did feel quite annoyed when he sent Kaleb off to London in a huge truck thing to try and sell the Wasabi. Completely wasted trip and NOT environmentally friendly. Also, he is rich enough to pay for all the parking charges, but they are there to deter people like him! Just ill judged , wasteful and entitled.

It is an interesting insight into the problems farmers face, but it's an expensive hobby for him, not a livelihood. I'm sure the other farmers will watch it and feel quite irritated. If he has a problem he just throws money at it and brings in experts or help. It isn't real farming in that way, but an enjoyable programme, and Jeremy comes across as likeable in general. It would be heartening to see him ditch the gas guzzling vehicles and try to be more environmentally friendly. He also seems to want to cut across government rules and guidelines all the time just because he's Jeremy Clarkson, which is galling.

The owl boxes and efforts to plant wildflowers were encouraging, but otherwise it's lots of fertilisers and over priced stuff in the shop.

I can reassure you that other farmers have found it very refreshing to watch. It's very popular with farmers.

He just got it, he got the frustrations and the difficulties. He pointed out some of the absolutely ludicrous stuff that is going on and how farming is actually really very skilled.

I shed a tear (which is very unlike me) when he said early on in the series that despite how hard it was, despite all the exciting and wonderful things he has done in his life, that this was genuinely the happiest and most content he had ever been.

That's how I feel, and that's what a lot of people don't understand about farming particularly the ones that go on to threads where farmers are trying to explain and tell us 'just go and do something else'.

Farming for us isn't just something you do, it's something you are. In the very core of your being.

I do like JC - he's witty and amusing - despite being a bit of an arrogant twat.
What shocked me was the fertiliser needed for a field of wheat - OMG - no wonder the local river is full of grey/green weed. To think they use that every year!

It would be great if he decided to rewild more of it.
Rewilding seems a great idea but I've no idea how you make money from it. It would be interesting.

It was very contrived and set up, and I imagine most of it was scripted and not spontaneous, as it appears to be.

However, that aside, it’s quite entertaining and amusing - more like JC in the early days before he became more smug.

Normally can’t stand him, won’t watch anything with him in, but my DS was keen to watch and I got sucked in!

Found it surprisingly enjoyable and also fascinating as some who knows nothing about farming. How the fuck are they making any money and why on earth is there a view that farmers voted for brexit, surely that would be turkeys voting for Christmas?!

Found Caleb a bit annoying and don’t really get the appeal of someone who doesn’t want to venture more than a few miles from home. He was obviously knowledgable though.

I went to the farm shop last year because we live quite close by and Lisa served us. I knew it was his shop but didn't realise she was his girlfriend until afterwards. Anyway she was lovely (and incredibly tall and slim - a former model I understand) and I loved looking around the shop although it is very small. I read that they now have a cafe there too so it might be worth another visit.

I absolutely loved the series and binge watched it. Gerald, Kaleb and Charlie are all great characters. I'm praying for a second series.

On the contrary, other farmers have loved it, as it highlights their plights far better than any other program.

He described the market goers as (something like) 'a random mix of every sort of white 60 year old male' - very true, same for farmers here.

Another one here who wasn't expecting to like it but ended up loving it!
whilst the Top Gear version of JC (slight arse in my opinion) made the odd appearance he really did seem to fall in love with his sheep and chickens and highlighted very well the issues that arable farmers face with the weather and insects etc, Its one of the very few reality shows I've watched where I found myself really wanting them to do a second series.

DS and I are thoroughly enjoying it. I love Clarkson, but the real people are the stars. I thought he was great during lambing though. I'd also enjoy a glass of wine with his girlfriend I think.

I really enjoyed it. I thought his relationship with the sheep was touching but realistic, he did seem sad when he took the sheep to be culled yet he happily ate them afterwards which showed a lack of hypocrisy.
The only bit I didn't 'get' was the wilding project where he built a pond, attracted an otter, then fenced the pond off so it wouldn't eat the fish! Did he expect the otter to pop to the farm shop to buy fish?!?

DH and I also loved this - and binge watched over 3 nights.

Obviously lots was staged for TV but it was so entertaining. I liked the way JC highlighted farming issues whist acknowledging repeatedly that he wasn't a real farmer and farmers don't generally have lucrative media deals to fall back on.

Kaleb had presumably been told he could be as rude to JC as he liked and certainly played up to the part. So knowledgeable about farming - he was amazing! And as for Gerald - we had tears rolling down our faces watching JC's reactions to him.

For all his cynicism I was surprised that he looked so genuinely choked when he realised his 3 sheep had already been dispatched. Very touching.

All in all a great series. Hope there's a second.
