I'm not any better at sewing than poetry as it happens.

Anyways, line for Patrick starts behind me.

@Zzelda

Rafe's was clever, but I thought it was pretty hideous.
Agree that I didn't particularly like it, but it was far and away the best garment there.
NutellaEllaElla · 03/06/2021 08:40

You could tell that the model felt like a million dollars in it.

The theory in the Bingle household is that Damian either wanted to make sure he didn't go through so self sabotaged or hadn't been expecting to get anywhere near this stage so panicked with his design. I think a bit of both - he can fit way better than he did. I will say the design looked better than I expected and I could definitely see an 80s super villain in it.

I didn't actually like any of them though. Rafe's was probably the best and he used some interesting techniques but I thought Rebecca's showed why fishtail dresses should be lined - I thought it made the model's (excellent) legs look awful.

starfishmummy · 03/06/2021 15:20

All I could think was that after a short time of wearing, Raph's would probably have developed a camel toe Confused

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/06/2021 15:22

And Rebecca’s dress was a fancy cloche for thrush.

Cocolapew · 03/06/2021 15:31

You'd have to give yourself plenty of time when you needed a wee to get out of Rafes.

Have to say, that thought crossed my mind too. If anything, this task should surely have been bang up his street? He's spent the rest of the series making figure hugging stuff.

Rizzoli123 · 03/06/2021 16:08

I loved Damien. I think he did so well to her to where he was. Alot of people love Serena but I am sorry I just don't see it. She is a good sewer but i didnt like her dress last night. The colour choice were terrible and I wouldnt wear it but that's just my opionon. Rafe to win.

SoupDragon · 03/06/2021 16:12

I wouldnt wear it

I'm not sure I would wear any of them 😂 I'd quite like a cape to wear when I'm doing the housework though.

Whitney168 · 03/06/2021 16:15

I reckon Serena could sew anything, but she does seem to lack Rafe's imagination and flair for the final challenges. Can't remember anything horrible that she's made, but they're all just a bit too safe. Think that might be her downfall.

GlencoraP · 03/06/2021 16:18

Damian grew on me and I loved the fact the he seemed to enjoy everything and not take it too seriously, it was his time to go though.

Serena is definitely the best technical sewer and it is a sewing competition. I love Farie and think that she has it all except the timing and really she needs to sort that out. Rafe has been my tip from the start although I thought his jumpsuit was too tight across the bottom and I’m not sure she would have been able to sit down never mind throw some shapes on the dance floor ! Can’t seem to warm to Rebecca , really didn’t like her openness about beating Serena last night , but it was probably in the editing and she’s definitely in the running .

randomsabreuse · 03/06/2021 16:37

Serena is great at sewing but doesn't have Rafe's design flair. Rafe doesn't seem quite as good on technical stuff (less experience?) and less instinct if it's not in his comfortable zone but really gets fabrics. Rebecca is pretty good at technique, not sure on the design/fabric choices sometimes though. Farie seems to get design and is good technically but not instinctively happy with speed and not as good at moving on to get something done.

Serena seems especially good at not getting flustered and just getting the sewing/cutting done really well but is not as instinctive on the design side. However well she does I think she'll be a great doctor (especially surgeon!!!)

And how would you ever go to the loo?
iklboo · 03/06/2021 17:09

I thought Rafe's looked like a Monsters Inc costume!

dapsnotplimsolls · 03/06/2021 17:57

Thank God Damien's gone! I got bored of the 'I might sew but I'm really blokey and Definitely Not Gay' schtick weeks ago. It'll be duller but more competent without him!

Zzelda · 03/06/2021 18:56

Agree that I didn't particularly like it, but it was far and away the best garment there.

It's difficult for us to say, though, as we don't get to see the minutiae of how things are sewn. The judges did comment on problems with the cape.

Zzelda · 03/06/2021 18:58

I think the point is that it's a very friendly rivalry, she doesn't come over as desperate or massively competitive.

Zzelda · 03/06/2021 18:59

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

And Rebecca’s dress was a fancy cloche for thrush.
I don't see how that would be the case any more than any other close-fitting dress? If anything it's Raph's that was in danger of incubating thrush.
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/06/2021 19:04

Spot the Rebecca fan Grin

Only funning about it. I’ve a bell cloche over some baby plants at the moment. Reminiscent of that ‘Tis all. Grin

Damo’s dress though shocking at least provided ventilation Smile

Ulysses · 03/06/2021 19:26

I think there's a nice camaraderie amongst the contestants which makes it lovely and cosy viewing and a welcome balm to this crazy world. It's really quite low stakes as a competition. I can imagine Rafe doing something a bit grittier like Project Runway if he was living in New York rather than London, he really has a creative eye for the design process.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/06/2021 22:13

Farie is like the cat with nine lives.

SoupDragon · 03/06/2021 22:24

Whereas Damien had only 8.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 04/06/2021 00:39

What was Damien thinking! Orange upholstery fabric and brown 😂
Definitely did seem like self sabotage. He knew he wouldn't cope in the semi/final.

Raph's looked better without the cape but was more disco diva than dream girl.

Serena's wasn't fitted enough and needed more drama. The bottom should've been floor trailing with a thigh split.

Didn't like Farie's but looked ok.

Rebecca's was ok but that cheap spotty net fabric on the bottom looked awful. I've only ever seen it used for kids tutus, dance clothes or fancy dress outfits.

Zzelda · 04/06/2021 07:29

Spot the Rebecca fan

Au contraire, I think Serena should win. I just think we shouldn't take the ramp-up-the-rivalry editing seriously.

Djangor3725 · 04/06/2021 09:10

I loved Project Runway, Ulysses, & can see Rafe fitting in there, although he would have easily won any of the UK versions - they had hopeless contestants that were much worse at sewing than even me. I still remember the leather jackets produced by one of the US contestants - she went on to have a successful career (hopefully still going but I can't think of her name now). Sad to see Damien going as he was so cheerful & outgoing & the remaining contestants are more reserved = although that is probably because they concentrated on their sewing more than him. He seemed the best at fitting in the early rounds but I was not keen on his colour & fabric choices.
