Detective Hannah (Lesley sharpe) is nearing ending her career and also having a secret fling with a colleague who ends up going missing

Billy (Vincent ragan) is brought in to find the missing policeman

Add in hannah’s son who she grassed up for Drugs and served a prison sentence

Looks good.

Acting was quite poor in the first half (and just stilted dialogue/timing sometimes - I had to rewind to check if the lady in the "black dress" shop was a CGI character Grin) but then picked up and the end of the first episode piqued my interest enough to carry on watching.

But yeah......suspension of disbelief is essential for this, I reckon.

We're led to believe that Christian made a good friend in prison who is Croatian, and in all that time he never mentioned to him that he actually understands the language? Yeah, right........

A quick google shows that the Scandi version was deemed to be full of plot holes too.

Suppose it might be good for a "forget all your worries and settle back" type of pap viewing?

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/05/2021 22:56

I will try scandi in 6w after this one

I watched the first 3 episodes and am enjoying it despite the plot holes and the weird acting. At times it feels like some actors are dubbed. Smile

I don't think I will bother with the Swedish version even if I do like original versions.

SingingSands · 28/05/2021 11:54

I kept telling DH that it was annoying that the blue Volvo was "parked" on a cobbled one way street with double yellows on both sides - maybe it was a gang of hard line traffic wardens who captured and tortured the bloke.

SisterMichael · 28/05/2021 14:07

I know what you mean! I knew this was the English version but I almost wondered at that point if she was being dubbed or something because she was very weird.

Mahrezis · 28/05/2021 18:27

I found the script wooden and the acting poor but that may be down to the script.

JemimaTab · 28/05/2021 19:20

I hadn’t realised this was based on a Swedish series, but it makes sense because I did feel they were going for a Scandi noir vibe. I don’t think it quite came off though. And like others have said some of the acting was a bit ropey. I will give the second one a go to see if it improves but I’m a bit sceptical.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/05/2021 20:44

Riley yes but has a good cast

I'm watching both versions in tandem and am up to episode 3 in both.

Plot holes? Who cares? IMO the English version knocks spots off a few so called dramas shown recently (I'm looking at you Pact!)
No spoilers from me, just to say that as the series moves on it gets very tense and frightening.

Lesley Sharp is heartbreaking.

PandoraP · 30/05/2021 09:50

I am not sure about this one, but will give it another chance as I love Lesley Sharp.

RampantIvy · 30/05/2021 09:57

I have only watched the first episode and am enjoying it. I couldn't watch the torture scenes (don't understand anyone who enjoys watching this kind of thing TBH). I thought Lesley Sharp's acting was a bit wooden, but I like the plot. I had no idea this was a remake of a Swedish drama, so will look out for that.

Jacksonsmusic · 30/05/2021 13:10

We are up to episode 5. I have questions, but they might spoil things for people who have not watched as many episodes as I have. I usually love Lesley Sharpe but her acting in this is awful in places. I like the young ones though, Christian is great and Bianca is the daughter of that one from Dire Straits.

fearfulfran · 30/05/2021 21:52

Half way through episode 2 and I just dont understand what's going on. Not usually thick about things like this...

stumbledin · 30/05/2021 23:16

We are up to episode 5. - Maybe someone should start a spoiler thread for those who are binge watching?!

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/05/2021 23:26

Yes no spoilers please

I watch weekly

Blondes doesn’t binge

I'm 27 minutes in and I think it's too violent for me....

sleepyhead · 31/05/2021 01:00

We've given up after 2 episodes. I'm just not buying it really.

Also, ever since she played a really scary character in Doctor Who, I find Lesley Sharpe utterly terrifying when she does that blank, calm stare.

SophieB100 · 31/05/2021 05:28

I watched first one last night and going against he grain on here, I thought it was good. But like Blondes, (and being blonde too perhaps Wink I'm happy to watch a new drama and am easily pleased with them!)
Yes it was daft, the dress, and the phone, but I just kind of watch it without questioning too much and I found it quite gripping.
I love Lesley Sharpe, always have. "If she's in something, it'll be good" as my dear old mum would say!
I'll stick with it and looking forward to the next one on Wednesday.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/05/2021 09:07

@SophieB100 we are easily pleased😂

Me too Grin

spacedandtimed · 01/06/2021 13:40

I used to work for Qatari Diar, one of my colleagues was from Saudi Arabia and pretended that he didn't understand Arabic so he could eavesdrop.

So it's very believable for me.

DuncinToffee · 01/06/2021 13:52

I watched all episodes, it all makes sense in the end despite the plot holes Grin

Italiangreyhound · 02/06/2021 00:40

It's very good, I like it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/06/2021 13:05
