We started to follow "Our Girl" back in 2014 and although there will be no further series, we do revisit from time to time. We are about to finish the final series of "Soldier Soldier" and will be starting on the first series of "The Musketeers". Of course, there is a definite connection between "Our Girl" and "The Musketeers" in the delightful form of Luke Pasqualino.

Well, ilove, will you persevere?

Ilovelblue · 18/05/2021 22:00

Well I felt as if I was in an exam where I didn't even know the subject tonight! Definitely different to our other watchalongs. I think maybe I need to watch next week's episode in advance to try and get a better handle on it all.

Yes the Cardinal makes a nasty enemy. Certainly lots going on and there is humour there too.Very extremely loosely based on Dumas' novel but enjoyable.

Having read the books, I think the first two series at least follow the spirit of the books, though not the letter, but series 3 just went off at a tangent.

eejittwo · 25/05/2021 11:09

Well, ladies, looking forward to this week’s episode?

Rhubarb01 · 25/05/2021 18:58

I've purchased a 'used' complete set, just in case it all disappears without notice. I saw it all the first time it was on, but haven't watched lots of episodes more than once, so will be reasonably fresh to me.

It's interesting that when it was on originally, I was never quite sure what type of series it was supposed to be. I believe the first series was written intending to be shown before 9pm - perhaps a bit like Robin Hood or Merlin or something on Saturday evenings, but ended up going out post 9pm on a Sunday. It seemed a little bit tame for a post 9pm drama. I think it moved nights too, didn't it, eventually ending up on a Saturday evening, but it defnitely got a bit darker towards the end.

I'm beginning to think of this as SF 1630's style - to be honest LP is pretty similar to Elvis in this - might get a bit muddled in my head.

I think that people ASSUMED it was pre-watershed because of the lack of swearing, gratuitous violence and graphic sex, but I felt it was pretty grown-up in its wit and the way it’s really a horse opera set in 1630s France. If you know your Westerns, it’s quite fun playing ‘spot the homage’.

Second series was on Friday nights and the third was on Saturdays. Both got mucked about and sacrificed to footie and Olympics or suchlike. Musketeers could be dropped for a week but, oh gif no, not Casualty, which was shunted into Musketeers’ slot.

eejittwo · 25/05/2021 20:36

God, not gif!

Rhubarb01 · 25/05/2021 20:54

Yes, it didn't quite find its natural spot in the schedules and I do remember it being moved about and dropped. Still ITV are the ones for doing things like that with stuff they don't think is popular or shouldn't show. They went through a phase of putting out new drama and if it didn't get enough viewers after about 3 episodes, they just dropped it unfinished. Please don't get me started on 'Home Fires' and the cliffhanger ending that was never resolved - at least on screen.

Rhubarb01 · 25/05/2021 21:00

Well, here I am ready for episode 2 - "Sleight of Hand"

Pressing play....now!

Rhubarb01 · 25/05/2021 21:01

D'art is fighting a duel in the snow. He is a 'gentleman'..hmm!

Rhubarb01 · 25/05/2021 21:02

Run for it lads...looks like D'Art can't run faster than a horse.

eejittwo · 25/05/2021 21:02

Gotta scraper

Rhubarb01 · 25/05/2021 21:02

Now he has been arrested.

eejittwo · 25/05/2021 21:02

Oops - he’s surrounded

Ilovelblue · 25/05/2021 21:02

I was just making a drink, sorry if I'm late.

Going back to your comments from earlier today, I only remember it being on on a Saturday evening but have only seen brief snatches of it occasionally so as you could tell last week, I was struggling a bit to work out who was who.

Down in the dungeons with the criminals. Nothing like a bit of lip in the line. Same old same old.

Rhubarb01 · 25/05/2021 21:04

So, it was only a ruse. They wanted him in prison for some reason. Looks like he's going undercover or behind enemy lines.

Ilovelblue · 25/05/2021 21:05

D'Artagnan strikes me as being like a cat with nine lives.

Ah, looks like a bit of magician.

Rhubarb01 · 25/05/2021 21:06

Mouse stew.....urghhh!

Ilovelblue · 25/05/2021 21:06

D'Artagnan/Elvis are almost one and the same. Elvis was good behind enemy lines too!

M Bonacieux arrives

Ilovelblue · 25/05/2021 21:07

Not great food in this prison, is it!
