@MinecraftMother

This.
Brilliant
PomLikeTheBattle · 02/05/2021 22:24

@Buggerthebotox

Seriously, it wasn't shit. It was a thoughtful and intelligent ending and probably reflective of realitity. Osborne off the hook, Buckells in jail, Ted's future uncertain and corruption covered up.

Very satisfactory. Thank you Jed for not turning it into a pantomime.

Absolutely agree.
tecatea · 02/05/2021 22:25

@cliffdiver like what? All the bad police were put away?

PrincessScarlett · 02/05/2021 22:25

And what was the point of Steph? Ted could have still had his moment of feeling guilty for Corbett's death without the large amount of scenes with Steph in.

Heyha · 02/05/2021 22:25

Mother of God I'm glad that wasn't 90 minutes long!
I don't watch telly in a Sunday night to be low-key preached at about far-fetched and hypothetical police corruption going unchallenged. It's meant to be entertainment!
I can't see me going in for season 7 if they do one, sorry Jed. I'll just rewatch 1-4 then there's always series 5 if I get desperate 😂

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 02/05/2021 22:25

@Tealvelvet

They hyped it as an exciting finish this may well be true to reality but it was a rubbish ending :-(
I'm not sure they did - I think we all did!
AC12theletterofthelaw · 02/05/2021 22:25

@tecatea

The people who were disappointed what ending did you expect?
I was expecting a proper episode. I get the ending. Corruption doesn’t end but the whole episode was so disjointed and thrown together. The series completely lost its way last week and this week. May be COVID related with what they could come up with but in my opinion lazy and poor writing.

That’s what Dh said to me. Along with ‘you’ve had too much gin tonight to ask such a dumb question’ Grin

IcedPurple · 02/05/2021 22:26

@AnneShirleysNewDress

I'd go into witness protection for Jo's cottage.
Yeah, the pretty girlfriend, the Dulux paint dog, the chocolate box cottage. Witness protection must be a cushy deal.
poundoflard · 02/05/2021 22:26

@MinecraftMother

That's hilarious! 🤣🤣

JesusMaryDonkey · 02/05/2021 22:26

Ha ha ha!!! All that intricate, complex interweaving of plots and it ends up being a smirking Brummie Grin

At least now everyone can forensically dissect all the series and locate any plot holes.

Seeing a Scottish ‘Steve Arnott’ in a trailer for a new series The Vigil immediately after, made me seriously reassess my over-investment in TV Dramas. We’re all such suckers but That’s Entertainment!!

mynameiscalypso · 02/05/2021 22:26

@tecatea

How did Kate get into the back of Jo's transfer van without evil prison officer laydee in the front knowing about it?

She did know didn't she as Steve was next to her in the drivers cab

Exactly - they needed one of the corrupt prison officers with them to tell them where to go for the ambush so they presumably made her stay with them and used her so the ambush-ers (?) didn't suspect it was a trick.
Lovelovelove21 · 02/05/2021 22:26

@tecatea

The people who were disappointed what ending did you expect?
Some excitement. Some twists. Just something! It was just so bleh!
BentBastard · 02/05/2021 22:26

I made the point after the last episode (or maybe the one before) that viewers have become more and more reliant in crazier and crazier twists and predicted that the ending would disappoint.

CheekyWeeShite · 02/05/2021 22:27

“It had to be someone we knew from way back and most of them were either dead or in witness protection.”

Exactly. I’ve been arguing that Buckells is the most likely candidate for several seasons now, the incompetence is an excellent front and explains his failing up.

However, I think the writing of it could have been handled far better to reveal his true nature, when really he was just a greedy and convenient fool, which is a pity.

tecatea · 02/05/2021 22:27

Agree, but I think it was meant to be a bit of a wake up call as yo how politicised/corrpupt policing has become. And how we're powerless to stop it.

Yep, I thought the bit at the end about having AC12 less powers then ever was very apt in these times we are living in.

IcedPurple · 02/05/2021 22:27

@PrincessScarlett

Her 'Scouse' accent also hurt my ears. Were no actual Liverpudlian actresses available?
eternalopt · 02/05/2021 22:27

I'm ok with there not being one too dog as such and it all being a bit more split/nuanced than that. I'm ok with buckells being the main contact - yes he was a wimp in the cell when lakewell was killed but that makes sense in the context of him being just a greedy copper who only handed on info and arranged stuff and didn't see it in front of him. I'm not ok with there being so many unanswered questions. Who arranged jo's transfer and what would've happened to her? What was last week all about - why did kate run and who was setting her up and why/what for? Where was the questioning of lomax after it seemed he signed the transfer? There must be others higher in on it. Episode just felt rushed and a bit lazy. The "big reveal" came with only 20 mins to go!

It was too funny that you asked for a link to twitter.

SueSaid · 02/05/2021 22:28

'people have built this up way too much this season.'

Yes but all the episodes have been compelling and the suspense has been building. This we had a disinterested Carmichael almost being pleasant and a fairly boring interview scene.

No tension, no surprises it was dull af.

This. Clear message there can be corruption by omission, allowing incompetence to rise through the ranks, and the reconciliation and redemption of the 3 star officers acknowledging their shortcomings, Steves addiction, Kates personal life and most importsntly Ted's pivotal confessions.

Throughout the series', Jes has referenced real life and I think the 'ending' is not unexpectedly pragmatic and appropriately unresolved.

tecatea · 02/05/2021 22:28

Fair enough & I agree it was disjointed however my question was very much addressed to people disappointed with the ending.

CheekyWeeShite · 02/05/2021 22:29

Yeah, the pretty girlfriend, the Dulux paint dog, the chocolate box cottage. Witness protection must be a cushy deal.

She certainly came out better than Bill Gigolo

Cuntryhouse · 02/05/2021 22:29

I don't want realism! I want drama, excitement, great story telling. I want suspension of disbelief. Fuck, I'd even take Ted as H!!
