I think maybe first episode on More 4 and then on all 4. Not clear. Sounds sort of predictable. Big city cop gets banished to remote country side ...

Rocco Schiavone is a charismatic rule-breaking cop whose irregular behaviour has seen him banished from his beloved Rome. Now he must get used to a new and colder world in this Italian crime drama.

I've been binge watching this. Mainly because I miss my Montalbano fix but Rocco is a long way from the twinkly Luca Zingaretti. I kept watching because the character's actually got some depth and the stories are quite good.

That's interesting. I gave up after the first episode as it just seemed to be the main character sleeping with lots of different women.

Maybe I can skip over those bits! There is so little to watch I will give it another go.

The review that alerted me to the series thought it had more depth than Montoalbano but couldn't help noticing this series also had a comedy character in the police station.

Ah ha! Yes he does. A lot. And that's just one of many character flaws. But the woman he goes home to and chats to - that's his wife. Who is dead. So his lack of commitment is sort of explained. He's still in love with her.

PS. There are several comedy characters at the police station (and I couldn't help but be reminded of Catarella) who need to have everything explained in detail leading to Rocco's increasing frustration. No more spoilers. Hope you enjoy.

I couldn't even get through the first episode. It was like watching terrible, amateur 1970s tv. I was disappointed, not least because I was looking forward to seeing the magnificent scenery.

I felt the same until the last 5 minutes of the first episode. I didn't like him and I almost didn't watch the second but gave it a go and glad I did. It's interesting how his character develops with the focus on his mental health. I still don't like him (and some scenes are unnecessary and way too graphic so yes to the fast forward button) but he's interesting.

So after comments here I sat through episode 2. It just doesn't help if you dislike the main character, although quite honestly not sure I would have got the fact that his wife was dead without someone posting upthread.

And all those weird scences with him having some sort of mental response to someone ( or in the case of a woman a sexual fantasy).

Didn't help that somehow I managed to guess the plot of the crime being investigated in this episode.

And 2 hours is just too much.

Its almost as though someone who isn't Italian has written a drama set in Italy and made every character an Italian stereotype.

But will probably plod on with is as so little else to watch on fridays having totally failed with Intergalatic. I really like a good sci fi. But this isn't it. Sad

I'm watching Intergalactic too. I do like the mainly women cast but it is a bit ordinary so far.
I have been watching the latest season of Fargo though, which is truly excellent.
