That wouldn't happen under my roof I can tell you!

mieow · 02/11/2004 00:03

mine either BH!!!

alexsmum · 02/11/2004 00:05

The mother was talking about how the elder one had been moaning that she should be pregnant first being the eldest. And the mum said 'it's not a race'.If my sister had come home pregnant at 15, I would have locked in my room until I was 21.If I had mentioned anything about following her example, I would have been sent to a convent!!!

mieow · 02/11/2004 00:06

me too, Alexsmum, My mum would have flipped

mieow · 02/11/2004 00:10

she flipped when she found out I was pregnant with Ds at 18, I had my own flat and was working

alexsmum · 02/11/2004 00:19

I just know mine would have gone abso-f***-lutely mental!!!They were shocked (but suprisingly cool) when my sis got preg at 24 without being married. She didn't tell them until she was 5 months though! And then said she was getting married in 6 weeks and would they organise the wedding? lol.If it had happened at 15?! God I can just imagine their faces!

mieow · 02/11/2004 00:23

I still remember going to antenatal clinic when pregnant with DD2, I was 21 then, and DH came with me, and the MW asked if DH was DS's dad! I know its not common these days for dads to stick around but we were married when DS was born and still married then, (and still married now!!) I felt like a proper teenage mum then!

woodpops · 02/11/2004 08:25

What about the girl of 17? 3 kids by 3 different dads and she wanted another. If that was my daughter I'd kill her.

The boy of 13 with twins were brilliant. They'd never claimed benefits. The mum was at uni, he'd got a job and they were still together 5 years on. Good for them.

wallawallabingbang · 02/11/2004 08:28

Im sorry I missed this - my little sister had my niece when she was 14 and although horrifying at the time she has proved to be one of the success stories!

will this be repeated at all?

joanneg · 02/11/2004 08:52

Also the 15 year old who was pregnant had her boyfriend over to stay during filming - I know it is too late now, but isnt it illegal??

The other shocking thing was how easily the 17 year old with 3 kids had sex with strangers with no protection!! When she said "I saw him outside mcdonalds and thought he was nice so I wnet over, we chatted and I took him home that night, we had unprotected sex and I was pregnant again!!". She had only just had her 2nd baby!! I coould hardly muster up the energy to do the nightfeeds after having ds - yet alone go on the pull at mcdonalds!!

lou33 · 02/11/2004 08:54

I wonder if there is a correlation between when you were allowed boyfriends to stay the night, and when you had a baby? Mine were spending the night with me in my room from the age of 17 officially. I had my first child at 25.

SpringChicken · 02/11/2004 09:07

My boyfriend was first allowed to stay the night at my house when we were both 16 - we then bought a house when we were both 18 and he is now the proud father of my DD!

IMHO it is completely down to the parents - i will probably get shot down in flames for this - i do understand that you cannot be with your teenager 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but there are things you can do to prevent these things happening. For Example: The 17 yr old with 3 kids - after her DD was born when she was 15 or something, she was allowed to go out on a girls night out a few weeks later - FFS, what is all that about.
And her mum wonders how she got into this mess!

marialuisa · 02/11/2004 09:13

Well, I never had a boyf stay at home when I was younger, but was still pregnant at 21....

Even DH has never spent the night at either of my parents' houses. I'd just find it so uncomfortable.

SecondhandRose · 02/11/2004 09:23

I don't think there was any emphasis on this being the 'wrong' thing to do. I don't think the programme could be used to show young girls the right path as nothing was said about no money, no nights out etc. The only moans were the stretch marks. There was certainly enough money for ciggies and dog food!

Wonder how long before they all get re-housed?

It was quite frightening that Britain has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the world.

mieow · 02/11/2004 09:25

I think the paremts should drag those girls down to the Family plannng clinic and have the nurse jab them with the injections to stop further pregnancies

mieow · 02/11/2004 09:33

or is that a bit harsh??

joanneg · 02/11/2004 09:35

harsh but fair

misdee · 02/11/2004 09:35

lol mieow.

Miriam2 · 02/11/2004 09:39

Haven't read all the messages so apologise if I'm repeating. One of the saddest things about the 2 sisters and the girl with 3 kids was they didn't seem to envisage any other life for themselves. They paid lip service to 'having a career' but there was no mention of any ambitions and it seemed as if having a baby was the obvious alternative. Lack of hope maybe, faith in themselves? I found the claustrophobia of the family sitting round smoking staring at Tv and playing with the dogs really depressing and got the impression that that had been their lives so far and would continue to be so.

mieow · 02/11/2004 09:41

I think all girls should be jabbed with injections(mine included) at least till they are 20!!!!

misdee · 02/11/2004 09:43

think your taking it too far mieow lol. after all we both had kids b4 20 lol.

imagine girls lining up at school to have the injection by the school nurse. bit like the rubella jabs they used to do, where we all lined up outside the office.

mieow · 02/11/2004 09:44

I know, but my girls ain't having sex

mieow · 02/11/2004 09:44

EVER!!!!!!!
