Series to watch with 14yo dd

Can anyone recommend a series I can watch with my 14yo dd? We have very different tastes so it’s proving tricky! She’s watching Stranger Things with her dad, she doesn’t like Friends and we’ve tried Schitts Creak but neither of us could get into it.

Any ideas?

Sweet magnolias on Netflix
Schmaltz but she loved it

I second Brooklyn 99, Red Dwarf and Superstore.

Have similar aged girls we enjoying Call My Agent (though we’ve gone to Paris a few times) and season 1 only Crazy Ex Girlfriend. Stop at season 1 it goes abit too weird after that.

Weirdly we also watch wanted down under revisited as the families decisions prompt lots of discussion!

Go back to Schitts creek we were meh the first series but you really get into it.

Parks and Recreation and modern family too

Resident Alien! I know you said no sci-fi but it’s very funny and soap-y.

Ghosts
Vera
Sherlock
Taskmaster
Greys Anatomy
Derry Girls
Grantchester
Staged
Grand Designs
Wandavision
The Crown
This Is Us
Brooklyn 99

She's quite a prude and doesn't like even a hint of personal life, nothing scary at all, and needs everything set up in the first 15 minutes of ep 1 otherwise won't stick with it. Even with Ghosts and This Is Us I had to ignore her pleading to turn it off and once she'd got through that first setting up episode she was OK.

My dd loves Brooklyn 99

Also - How I met your mother

Modern Family Smile

My 14 would die off watching the Inbetweeners with me. There's so many references to sexual stuff, and she's incredibly uptight about that Grin

Quartz2208 · 17/04/2021 10:27

DD loved How I met your Mother/Brooklyn 99/Modern Family for comedy

Once Upon a time and Buffy were also huge hits

harknesswitch · 17/04/2021 10:29

Teen wolf
Grease (my dd surprisingly loved this)
Titanic (apparently it's trendy again amongst teenage girls)
Harry Potter
Vampire diaries

harknesswitch · 17/04/2021 10:30

Googlebox isnkn Netflix at the mo and my 14yr old loves it. Language can be a bit choice tho Grin

@MelissaVonStressel this is like my daughter. We were talking about Torchwood in the car (she loves dr who) but I said it has quite a lot of sexy bits so she's said no 🤣

Emmas85 · 17/04/2021 21:05

I enjoyed watching Umbrella Academy and Arrow with my 14 years old ds.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 17/04/2021 21:08

American Office

She's watched all of Last Tango in Halifax though Grin

Thanks again, all! We have Brooklyn 99 a try. We both laughed so I guess we’ll go with it 🙂.

I agree with this - its brilliant - very clever as well. My teen thought I was bonkers when I kept chuckling about the alien threatening to kill the child. Then they caught up on Youtube. We cant wait for Series 2.
