Ted has been the police so long that they won't necessarily have his DNA on file from him joining. He was arrested and interviewed last series so his DNA may be on the nominal database from then.

Andrew Laverty was mentioned on here as an option quite soon after the episode. I think that's an interesting idea, bearing in mind we know bugger all about him.

It also makes sense if he was a bit dodgy and had OCG connections and that’s how Jackie made her connections, rather than her just randomly falling into a criminal network.

(And who would play him? He'd prob be late 50s by now, or possibly older?)

Jackie Laverty said she had a previous drink driving conviction to get Gates to cover up her latest over-the-limit 'prang' (but could of course have been lying).

Or yes, Andrew Laverty could have had a drink driving conviction.

I’ve actually think I’ve just sussed it but I can’t say anything because it might vaguely connect to a spoiler that was in the media this week, and an clue that JM hid in an earlier episode.

Ok, I think it’s Andrew Laverty, who is Scottish, is the partial match for Jo, and was acquainted with Tommy Hunter, and hence connected with the OCG, which is how he made his fortune and is how Jackie became involved with the OCG and the money laundering.

There were two possible spoilers being bandied about this week. One of them is a casting detail that has been widely circulated and many people have seen it. The other ‘spoiler’ was more of a hint; my theory connects to the ‘hinted’ spoiler and a clue JM has already put in the show. I honestly don’t want to say more than openly on the thread because I don’t want to give anything away (if I’m correct, which I very well may not be )

I think the first, that refers to casting shouldn't be mentioned.

But I don't see why you can't discuss theories about things that have already been shown and how they might be important (which presumably can be done without referencing what the hinted-at spoiler might be)

But perhaps don't do it straight away - wait and see if there's a chorus of 'no no no no nothing please'

I’ve said as much as I can (in my above comment about Andrew Laverty) without going into the casting aspect. There were two spoilers in the media this week: one is widely known and has been mentioned all over the place, even in BBC press releases.

The second spoiler is more vague (so much so that initially I dismissed it as a publicity stunt), and the last time I looked the media had given hints but not confirmed anything. My theory connects to the unconfirmed spoiler, so I can’t say anything more without breaking the thread spoiler rules.

Rewatching series 5 and thinking Miroslav is dna match to Jo, no real reason except he refer to as a nominal. Chloe Bishop could work as Gates daughter if old enough and perhaps clue in surname Bishops gate whivch I think may be real place.

Was alerted to the fact there was a spoiler by a couple of deleted posts on the previous thread - and since then I’ve been avoiding most news sites just in case!

I’ve been pondering Andrew Laverty too - mainly due to the fact that I restarted from Season 1 earlier this week. So much I’d forgotten. He could tie in quite nicely, but I’m just not sure if he would generate such a shocked response from Ted/Steve.

Can’t wait for the next episode. I had my COVID vaccine yesterday afternoon and my main concern has been will I feel too rubbish with side effects to watch it/concentrate 🤣

I was quite sold on Tommy being the match but there’s a lot to be said for Andrew Laverty actually and makes some sense of why Jackie’s freezer has reappeared on the scene this season - definite loops back to S1

Jed’s clue was given earlier in this series. It’s already been discussed on the thread, but I’ll not say what it is as it could be classed as a spoiler.

What I can’t yet work out is why, if Andrew L was significant enough to have been a flag when Jo entered the force if her DNA had been scanned at the time, it wasn’t mentioned at any earlier point that Jackie’s ex had serious criminal connections, but I think there’s going to need to be a lot of ‘retcon’ going on to make the big reveal work, whoever it is.

Good to know that even Steve finds Steve’s waistcoat addiction amusing

I think that's twofold:

1. Gates wouldn't want to consider that Jackie was dodgy by association, for his own sake (bad enough morally to have an affair, but hideous professionally to start shagging a known dodgy person). Therefore he wouldn't have raised this info to anybody, so it wasn't included; and
2. It wasn't important to the storyline of S1, as that was focussed on JL's dodgy dealings and the OCG. How she got there wasn't important.

I don't mind that we don't know much about AL. I don't think we needed to know prior.

If it is Laverty, I doubt he has any big convictions. Apparently you can be added to the DNA database even if you’ve only been arrested so it could be for anything and wouldn’t have to have led to a charge. Could also have been covered up by those on the inside somehow.
