I have a lot of respect for some of the things the Duke did and was happy to read all the coverage in the Times.
But to have exactly the same coverage on a (small) loop on both BBC 1 and 2 didn't make it feel more of an historical occasion to me; it felt more like brain washing.
Although, given the tone some posters have taken (not just on this thread), emphasising the historical import of his death, the respect due and comments like "Well, turn off the television and read a book" or "Watch Netflix instead" makes me feel they think someone objecting to the mass coverage has very little brain to wash.
Actually, I read far more than I watch television and don't have Netflix because of that.
One of my "must watches" is Masterchef with GBM following hard on its heels.
I still don't understand why BBC2 couldn't have carried normal programmes or, at least, have different coverage of the news.
And I don't think that implies I'm ignorant of history or unaware of the implications of various news events.
