Has anyone re-watched Buffy in recent years?

I'm running out of things to watch and fancy something fun (although I know there are dark times in Buffy!)

Wondering if it has stood the test of time generally and 20 years on will I find it too young for me now?

(I absolutely loved it first time round).

Tara - she wipes her mind repeatedly so she does not know they are arguing and then has sex with her under false pretenses. In California law that is rape - rape requiring a penis is UK law.

Ahhh. I was wondering if you were thinking of the scene with Warren and the bullet - but that was more torture than rape.

that's a violation of another kind - but it is pretty brutal. Especially when she sews his mouth shut so he can't even scream.

I don't remember Xander being a dick! Clearly I missed that. I might give it a go.

I tend to feel the same @Mrstwiddle although I sometimes think I don't give it proper thought because of the implications.

I don't remember that at all.

Yes! I'm literally rewatching it right now! If I remember correctly it starts off a bit ropey and gets better and better. I'm finding some things unintentionally hilarious like the fact that all these teenagers are out clubbing every night and nobody seems to think about looking in to why so many kids and teachers are dying on a weekly basis!

folloyourarro · 07/04/2021 21:10

@DuffyFlucks if you watched on "live" tv it may have been edited out.

Xander is definitely a d*ck.

However, what I was most horrified by was the character of Spike. He was fine as villain, but when they tried to redeem him it turned into a horror show, because he was such a fan favorite.

Well she doesn't whip out a needle and thread Grin she uses magic so it's pretty quick.

We do find out that the authorities know exactly what's going on - so nobody looks into it because it behoves them to look the other way, or they are actively involved in the cover up.
It's still a bit much that a dead body is found in a locker and all they do is cancel gym though. One time a digger cut through the electrics at my school and we all got sent home - I bet we would have got a week off for a corpse on campus.

It is always mentioned by guests at Vampire Ball (the Buffy convention) that if anyone was in a couple and looked too loved up then Joss would always split them up.

I think it’s a great show. If people stopped watching it because of the directior’s behaviour that would be very unfair on the many many other people involved in the show.

I saw a thread a while back saying that the show was dated because Willow and Xander had such bad clothes. Worth pointing out that these clothes were supposed to be comical because their characters start off as unpopular losers and we didn’t actually dress like that in the 90s people 🤣

I've rewatched and rewatched, it's my comfort TV. I think it's held up pretty well

dudsville · 07/04/2021 22:16

I think I've watched it 4 times, and I think I'm done with it now. The last time I focused in on scenes that helped the development of the characters and ff'd the fight scenes. It was really satisfying. I think spike's redemption at the end is really moving, but like so many good shows, I wouldn't have really wanted to be friends with any of them.
