Did anyone watch this?

I felt stressed watching! The house looked fab when it was finished. We all need to borrow the carpenter... he was amazing at up cycling! Loved the shoe drawers.

I saw it midway for 2 mins, & quickly turned over so I can watch it all on catch up,

I hope its good, I can't wait for the charity shops to open next week, my car boot is full for them.

I hope the programme will inspire me to let more go.

Apologies if I have got the wrong idea about the show!

Cocolapew · 05/04/2021 21:14

The carpenter was fab, I wish I could do stuff like that. It's inspired me to clear out my bedroom out tomorrow Grin

Cherry889 · 05/04/2021 21:43

I watched this and enjoyed it. The house did look really good when finished.

Rummikub · 05/04/2021 21:45

I missed this
Really wish bbc would repeat stuff!

tutorwho · 05/04/2021 22:08

Is this the programme with Iwan Carrington? I always enjoy his Youtube videos.

Winniewonka · 05/04/2021 22:40

@ Rummikub
@ Tutorwho It's Stacey Solomon and it should be on BBC IPlayer. It was good, not dissimilar to a Canadian decluttering show on Netflix whose name escapes me.

Winniewonka · 05/04/2021 22:43

@Tutorwho, meant to say yes it's Iwan and Stacey Solomon!

cateycloggs · 05/04/2021 22:46

I missed the beginning of this, only saw it from where they had all the stuff in the warehouse. They seemed like a lovely family but Did the presenter say they had over 3,000 toys? I couldn't help trying to calculate some of their costs and I did feel overwhelmed. Trying to sort out my own stuff so good to see it done but they obviously needed so much help and the helpers were stressed too!

I am not a parent but wouldn't the drawers in the stairs be a terrible trip hazard with young children? Even older people could leave them open by mistake and then....

Wafflehouse · 05/04/2021 23:34

I enjoyed this and did find some of it useful, it’s made me think about what isn’t working in our house and maybe rejigging furniture between rooms might help. I did find myself getting a bit irritated with the mum when she kept saying it was rude to throw the kids toys away and rude of them to throw months out of date food away.

I just wish it had been a more normal house as some of it was a bit unrelatable with the sheer amount of space they really had. Their garage seemed huge, they had a play room for the kids and their utility room is the size of my kitchen. Maybe I just live in a really small house by modern standards.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 06/04/2021 00:24

I only caught the end. Where was the house. It’s massive ,! What did they do for jobs ..they had lots of expensive furniture and loads of kids. How did they afford it all?
It reminded he of a typical big American house with loads of nice stuff but just too much of it.

Potpourriandpennysweets · 06/04/2021 00:34

Love things like this! Look forward to watching it while I start my big declutter tomorrow. I was aiming for getting rid of a 1/3 but on a clip of this it said 1/2 so might push myself. Have been up considering whether to order a skip or not!

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/04/2021 00:39

It's the same sort of set up as the program "Consumed" though that doesn't seem to be available anywhere at the moment and it dealt with people with hoarding tendencies as well. In that program, they were given a marked space in the warehouse and could only keep what they could fit in the space and they also had to spend a week in their house with the absolute basics such as 1 cup, 1 plate etc and a few personal items only.

I'd love to do this, my main issue is not so much the letting go (but that as well) but the finding places for things to go as I hate waste.

Watched this with DD who is the organiser in our house - loved it. Stacey Solomon is just a genuinely nice person, I liked her on the X-Factor and haven't seen her on TV for ages.

The mum had some very serious hoarding tendencies though and she'll probably just go back to her old ways. I mean, who keeps mouldy rock cakes?

LieLikeALoungeroomLizard · 06/04/2021 09:48

Interesting how the mum was clearly a hoarder, yet wants to become a psychiatrist

Icecreamsoda99 · 06/04/2021 10:03

The amount of toys was insane, I do wonder if they were counting individual lego blocks! Shock

tutorwho · 06/04/2021 11:08

I could understand the mum's logic regarding some of the toys. If they were new then of course she would want to keep them. They should have removed some of the older toys first to make room.

Wafflehouse · 06/04/2021 11:28

We have this every Christmas with toys though, I always ask people not to buy for our dcs as they get a few things from us, a few things from my mum and then something big from pils and I think that is enough. Or I give book suggestions as they’re both big readers but every year there are aunties and uncles who just have to give piles of random toys. The kids insist they want to keep them and sure enough they get ignored because they didn’t really want them but just wouldn’t admit it so now they just get hidden away when the rubbish is being sorted and go straight to the charity shops as soon as I can get there. It does feel like a waste of peoples money but I really have tried to get them to stop but they want to give the kids presents and it isn’t worth falling out over.

RaspberryCoulis · 06/04/2021 11:32

It wasn't new stuff coming into the house which was the issue. It was the mother's refusal to throw anything away.

The poor dad - his precious, family heirloom stuff was relegated to the garage because his wife couldn't deal with throwing away anything.

Cocolapew · 06/04/2021 11:36

What was the bag that belonged to the dad? I missed the beginning.

LieLikeALoungeroomLizard · 06/04/2021 11:38

Coco it was a gift from his mum on his wedding day, but it got lost amongst all the crap/clutter

RaspberryCoulis · 06/04/2021 11:39

It was some family heirloom thing from Nigeria which had been hid fathers, and handed down to him when he married. It was very important to him and his family.

JensonsAcolyte · 06/04/2021 11:42

I’m watching it now and made the dog jump by screeching laughing at Stacey keeping her sons foreskin in a box...ShockGrin

Cocolapew · 06/04/2021 11:45

Thanks, I'm glad they found a place for it and the lovely photo of his dad, he was his double.
I've never seen Stacey in anything before she seems genuinely nice.

Cocolapew · 06/04/2021 11:48

I had a big clear out during the first lockdown but have so many unworn clothes under my bed its ridiculous. I had a good hoke this morning but ran out of bin bags after filling 7 of them Blush Shock
