Fresh new thread ready for next week as we’re nearly filling up our main series 2 thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/4153896-Interior-Design-Masters-Series-2?msgid=105633333#105633333

The Final is on next Tuesday 23rd March 8pm BBC2, and looks like our favourite Sophie Robinson is back as a guest judge - along with a bloke I don’t recognise

Siobhan and Lindsey will each be designing a 2-bed luxury holiday villa..... can’t wait!

@LadyEloise

I loved the photo of Lynsey's baby Poppy at the end. When was the show filmed ? Poppy was born in early March.
I presumed it was last summerish, but have nothing to base this on Grin

Interesting - they seem to think Siobhan was designing the ladies retreat so something has got scrambled there!

Hadn't even noticed that, but yes you're right! I wonder if the owners of the lodges thought it worked better as a ladies retreat, and Lynsey's has more vague wording..
IstandwithJackieWeaver · 24/03/2021 10:54

You can't quite tell, but it looks as though the TV in Lynsey's design is connected up through th ceiling - looks like there's conduit against the middle two wooden struts. Also, they've added wood blocks with coat hooks beside her wall art in the stairway.

It wasn’t connected. It was a fake tv.
StanfordPines · 24/03/2021 11:06

Sorry, I’ve just realised you are talking about the TV in the lodge as it is now.

LemonViolet · 24/03/2021 11:12

Oh that is well sneaky not being open that there are 2 additional twin rooms!!!! That is really quite unfair especially on Siobhan I think. Her fiddly furniture downstairs still isn’t child friendly, but it makes a massive difference in the judging of her doing 2 adult bedrooms.

Also I thought Lynsey’s rooms should have been flexible double/twins for her market tbh. Not all women like sharing with their friends.

I agree about this, and I wouldn't have been able to relax at all with my DC in a house like that as I would panic they'd break stuff.

Though in Lynsey's I'd have to leg it up the stairs as quickly as I could every time as I'd be terrified the giant wood block would fall off on top of me Grin

Flavabobble · 24/03/2021 12:35

They were there when they did the judging, I kept waiting for a mention, I thought they worked brilliantly with the artwork.

That’s really strange. I actually said last night in a WhatsApp chat that Siobhan’s looked more ‘girl’s weekend away’ than family. So why on earth would they say on the TV prog that they had totally different briefs to that which they did? 🤨
APurpleSquirrel · 24/03/2021 13:22

@OysterMonkey I think they did have different briefs but on balance the holiday let company has probably realised Siobhan's is more girls weekend than family (clearly) & so are marketing it on that to maximise the potential as they clearly can't market it for families.
However what I think is really odd is bedrooms' 3 & 4 in both lodges - they're basically the same! A black & white wallpaper (palms & geo print) & a lamp - same curtains, bedding etc. It's as though the lodge company said you can do bedrooms 1 & 2 but 3 & 4 must be like this...!
Even so Siobhan's whole lodge wasn't aimed at families unless late teens; definitely not at toddlers/younger children so as that was her brief she didn't meet it.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 24/03/2021 13:23

To build a huge brand like Kelly Hoppen or Abigail Ahern you have to have a signature style

Kelly Hoppen would hate Siobhan's lodge 😂

LemonViolet · 24/03/2021 13:36

Tbf I think Kelly Hoppen would probably hate both lodges, most designs from the series and indeed Siobhan’s entire oeuvre!

Have been musing on what changes they could make to improve the show for next year

  • all the contestants get the same brief each time when possible (obvious exceptions when it is different business spaces etc - but when it’s all hotel rooms or all holiday villas!)
  • keep team challenges to the early stages only.
  • I really am not interested in the contestants families! (Sorry!)

I agree with these, although I'd actually like a bit more of a nosy round the contestants own houses.
Also I would LOVE an after show where the owners of the lodges / restaurants etc get grilled!

covetingthepreciousthings · 24/03/2021 14:46

Bold fail quoting @LemonViolet there.. 🤦🏻‍♀️

JovialNickname · 24/03/2021 15:34

I've just finished watching and so glad Lindsey won!

But did anyone else notice that the judges seemed to give away the winner in Siobhans interview? Michelle started off by saying, in a really regretful voice, that she had "loved" her work - past tense. Something about the way she said it really stood out, that Siobhan hadn't won. THEN, Matthew asked her if she'd thought about what job she'd like after the show had ended. He realised what he said and looked stricken, whilst S obviously said something about hoping to get the contract that was the winning prize!! So the writing was definitely on the wall I thought.

Annasgirl · 24/03/2021 16:13

I agree Lemon about the format changes required. I hope they keep Alan - he really is quite a "funny man"!!!

I'll have to keep up with their Instagram posts to see how the Hotel turns out.

LadyEloise · 24/03/2021 16:21

I agree re the designers getting the same brief.
No pairings or groups. Individual work only.
I don't mind the family bits.
Real reactions from owners.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 24/03/2021 16:57

I missed seeing the client reactions this year. Especially when they hate it and it's written all over their face while they fake smile 😄

OysterMonkey · 24/03/2021 17:32

Yes, I agree with the same brief where possible, and client reactions.
Not arsed about the families either. I think it’s irrelevant. Fair enough a bit of personal backstory, but bringing in the families does nothing for me. (As in it adds nothing)

The lodges from the final were transformed in November 2020 according to their website and I’m sure one of the shop type ones was done in September- from memory of their instagram pages!

I enjoyed the series, thought Alan was great, but didn’t particularly see anything new that wowed me....but maybe that’s because I spend too much time looking at interiors on Instagram these days compared to previous years 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think Siobhan will do well out of this regardless of not winning.

lotionInTheBasket · 24/03/2021 22:33

I would love an aftershow or "what the contestants did next" type show with a big fat dose of noseying around their houses thrown in for good measure!

terrywynne · 24/03/2021 22:46

Just caught up on this. I have maximalism so Siobhans taste is definitely not mine... interesting that they are 4 beds as all I could think was that 2 double bedrooms is no use for a family with more than one kid! Would have been nice for that to be clearer. Even then I don't think it said family holiday to me - where is the space for games/books/playing. Best family places I've been to have been the ones with games (table tennis in one!), cupboards of beach stuff etc.

Lyndsey met her brief better but again I was confused why you would only have 2 double rooms if you wanted a group of friends to stay!

covetingthepreciousthings · 24/03/2021 22:55

I think a PP made a good point about Instagram and interiors earlier in the thread, I know I follow so many people who have the most beautiful homes. I feel like nowadays it's much easier to achieve these houses because all the shops are full of these luxe style accessories for cheap.. and more choice of paint colours, wallpaper.. YouTube has helped with DIY..

I feel like back in the Changing Room days, we didn't even really know what everyone's houses looked like because there was no social media, where as now we are so over saturated with images of perfect homes.
I do think this is what makes a program like this a bit tricky, especially when the people aren't 'pros'.

Hope this makes sense!

I don't really know what you can do to change this though..

icelollycraving · 25/03/2021 06:35

I would love a garden version of this format. I’m always really underwhelmed with most of the gardens except for Alan Titchmarsh’. I’d be really interested to see what a couple of grand could do with imagination.
