Fresh new thread ready for next week as we’re nearly filling up our main series 2 thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/4153896-Interior-Design-Masters-Series-2?msgid=105633333#105633333

The Final is on next Tuesday 23rd March 8pm BBC2, and looks like our favourite Sophie Robinson is back as a guest judge - along with a bloke I don’t recognise

Siobhan and Lindsey will each be designing a 2-bed luxury holiday villa..... can’t wait!

Can't believe the holiday place hasn't even bothered to update their website!

It talks about a 'collaboration' which they can't yet reveal.

You'd think they'd be cashing in on the publicity!!

@icelollycraving

I would love a garden version of this format. I’m always really underwhelmed with most of the gardens except for Alan Titchmarsh’. I’d be really interested to see what a couple of grand could do with imagination.
Thing is garden makeover shows are pretty unrealistic IMO. You can’t ‘do’ a garden in 2 days. Gardens are long term projects & never truly finished! Alan Titchmarsh has a ridiculous budget to achieve what he does on Love Your Garden, even Garden Rescue they don’t charge for labour on any of the projects which is the main bulk of cost (both financially and time-wise). The recent Your Garden Made Perfect is at least honest about budget but the amounts they spend are eye-watering.

Have a look on YouTube at an old Monty Don show called Real Gardens, that was excellent, it followed people actually transforming their gardens over an extended period of time, going back for repeat visits to see how projects go. Very difficult to get that into the contestant/Great British Challenge format. The Big Allotment Challenge was reasonable though don’t know if that’s available to watch anywhere now.

I want more home shows that are not just challenges/makeovers!!! Like a home/interiors version of Gardners World. There must be an appetite for that.

I think a lot of this market is now covered by YouTubers though. I definitely watch a lot of gardening and home renovation YouTubers because the sort of content they offer, following projects over the long term etc, is not available on TV shows which are all either gameshows or unrealistic instant makeovers. Haven’t really got into Instagram as much as I think a lot can be staged for a still photo, and all the ten million hashtags confuse me!

Moot point as no one can actually holiday there at the moment.

@LemonViolet Funny you should mention the old Monty Don programme! I was just watching the first episodes of that today! There is an amazing gardener called Bryony Jacklin I think, whose garden I would love to copy, bits of it at least. She has created a beautiful garden from a huge farmer's field! She has made something I think she calls a 'roundel' which is sort of an incredible circular bed in her lawn which she then planted up. It is fabulous and she is such a talented lady 😍. Her family's story is inspirational too.

I also agree that makeover garden shows, apart from the lovely Alan's instant makeover gardens, don't make good telly. Most gardens are all about time and slow changes, experimenting and finding what works for you. Personally I find that a major part of the pleasure in gardening is growing things from seed, taking cuttings and being amazed as they grow and make new plants for free, potting on in the greenhouse, planning what you will grow in a year's time. None of these things are instant or would make very exciting telly in the way of a house makeover 😊

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 25/03/2021 23:07

Unless you have Alan T's budget it certainly is about time and slow changes. I've started making some much needed but pretty brutal changes to the overgrown plants in our garden and it looks bloody awful despite my planting lots of replacement shrubs, perennials, bulbs, etc. It's going to be five years before it looks anything like decent.

The holiday houses? Where are they?

Whenthesunshines · 26/03/2021 07:24

I would guess they’re busy redecorating! 😅

LadyEloise · 26/03/2021 07:27

Oh that's naughty Whenthesunshines Smile

I know but they were both so dark! 🤣

The winning holiday home fit the brief the best but they were both too much.

I personally want light and airy holiday homes! I hate too much stuff, busy fabrics, too many accessories, clutter!
I get that at home!

This is lindseys. They have updated it with shiny badge to say it was on the show. The extra bedrooms are shown too and they look similar in both properties

Whenthesunshines · 26/03/2021 07:57

Yes, Siobhan’s is definitely more boudoir than ‘family’!

Whenthesunshines · 26/03/2021 07:59

Ooohh!! £3399 pw at end of August!

LadyEloise · 26/03/2021 08:14

I too want a light and airy holiday home, Whenthesunshines
I'd prefer a New England/Hamptons vibe for my holiday cottage in Cornwall near the beach.

Squiz81 · 26/03/2021 08:17

Siobhan has added some photos and videos of her lodge on her Instagram page. I know Lindsey’s TV placement was controversial because of wires but I can’t see that Siobhan has even put one in. I know they don’t look good, but I think a family lodge would have a TV available.

^ I agree with this, I think those designs would likely translate better to a boutique hotel, but for a holiday home, I think less is more, and for the area I think I'd have rather had light and airy too.

LadyEloise · 26/03/2021 12:39

Spot on covetingthepreciousthings.
Cosy boutique hotel style.
Except for the ghastly pink headboard that could fall on your head during the night.

I couldn't sleep under that, terrifying! Much preferred Micaela's fancy shaped headboard earlier on.
Dailyhandtowelwash · 26/03/2021 16:30

Perhaps you could do good garden shows if you took a Grand Designs approach and filmed over a couple of years?

I think this could possibly work, I know with Your Garden Made Perfect, Tom Massey has said he is going to revisit the gardens if the show doesn't to take pictures to show them when they reach potential rather than the first stage after the planting etc when they looked a bit bleak..
HaveringWavering · 27/03/2021 14:15

@LemonViolet

Oh that is well sneaky not being open that there are 2 additional twin rooms!!!! That is really quite unfair especially on Siobhan I think. Her fiddly furniture downstairs still isn’t child friendly, but it makes a massive difference in the judging of her doing 2 adult bedrooms.

Also I thought Lynsey’s rooms should have been flexible double/twins for her market tbh. Not all women like sharing with their friends.

It may not have been mentioned on the show but the judges would have been aware so I am sure that they did not give it any weight when making their decision.

Also, I get the sense that neither was allowed to change the beds in the room they did do from double to twin or vice versa. Shame actually, as twin beds were relevant to both briefs- children and girls’ weekend- and are quite challenging to style compared to a double, would have been interesting to see what they came up with.

ppeatfruit · 28/03/2021 10:33

I've finally watched. I agree they were BOTH very dark, I didn't get Lyndsey doing such a dark kitchen esp when she included a dark painted fence ! And that weird wooden block 'art work' on the stairs.

Still she fulfilled the brief which Siobhan arrogantly ignored. That Beetlejuice outfit and decor to match!!! That comment that she "had it in the bag' backfired a bit!!

Buggerthebotox · 28/03/2021 10:55

Does anyone know please what colour Lindsey used (the dark, chocolatey, purply colour which I think went up the stairs)?

Twospaniels · 28/03/2021 20:37

Can someone point me in the direction of Instagram accounts relating to the contestants please?

TheSpottedZebra · 28/03/2021 20:40

Easy to Google, but hey-ho - they're all listed in here: www.realitytitbit.com/whats-on/meet-the-interior-design-masters-2021-contestants-on-instagram
