Did anyone watch this (2nd part still to come)

Young girl Jodi Jones murdered horrifically in woods in Dalkeith, boyfriend was arrested and has been in jail for her murder for the last 18 years but always said he was innocent....

I’m from Edinburgh so was very close to home and remember the aftermath and remember Luke Mitchell’s picture on the front of every single newspaper, he never stood a fair trial from the start...

Wondered what everyone else thought about it?

I did watch it and from what was presented there do seem to be questions marks over his guilt. However frustratingly unlike American (where their FOI requests seem to allow anyone to request documentation on closed cases) tend to documentaries of this nature they don't seem to have access to the original Police files so they're stuck talking to people who generally have a vested interest in finding Luke not guilty.

I must admit my big query was if Luke did it how come there was no forensic evidence to prove it whatsoever. It must have been a blood bath and even if he'd gone straight home and washed himself up I'm sure there would have been forensic evidence of that. Teenage boys aren't renowed for their ability to clean up after themselves at the best of times unless his mother was involved in some way which didn't seem particularly likely.

I was going to say also that if you've seen the Elisa Lam documentary on Netflix about her disappearance at the Cecil Hotel it is a very good example of how rumours become fact and you have people who have no first hand knowledge of a case piling in to say there's a conspiracy or what ever. In the Elis Lam case all the internet sleuths believed that the lid to the water tank was closed when the body was found but it wasn't.

Here we had people stating things as fact but without any official input it's difficult to establish exactly what the truth is.

I felt so sorry for his mum. She has lost everything. It sounds like there was no evidence to convict him.

Covidcorvid · 25/02/2021 14:01

Just watched this. The fact he was convicted when there was no forensic evidence is amazing. No motive apart from he was a goth.....loads of teens at that age especially back then wore black and listed to Marilyn Manson!

The murder scene was a blood bath....do the police really believe a 14yo did that and then successfully wiped all his dna off the scene and ensured he didn’t bring any blood spots back to his house on his shoes, etc?

diddl · 25/02/2021 15:01

Haven't seen this, but have just watched the Elisa Lam documentary it was very interesting & yes-how things spiralled!

Why hasn't this or that been released into the public domain & I'm thinking wtf-do the public really have a right to all of that??

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/02/2021 18:06

I don't think he did it, I never have.

SlummingAngel · 25/02/2021 18:07

I have links to the area and I do think he did it.

Thoughtsfortheday · 25/02/2021 19:46

@SlummingAngel are you able to say why?

I live opposite Luke Mitchell's house.
I can see it from my bedroom window.
I feel so sorry for his mother.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2021 21:46

What did posters think about the “detectives”?

speakout · 25/02/2021 21:47

What did posters think about the “detectives”?

Chuckle brothers.

supercee · 25/02/2021 21:48

Second episode on now.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2021 21:52

@speakout Have you googled their names? If you haven’t, then google them.

Covidcorvid · 25/02/2021 21:52

What are their names?

See both luke and his mum passed lie detector tests.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2021 21:54

Michael Neil and John Sallens, Strathclyde police.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2021 21:57

At the end of the day, a director and producer will produce a documentary in such a way that you can believe what they are saying.

A different director/producer could produce it from the opposite angle and it would come across just as compellingly.

wewillmeetagain · 25/02/2021 21:59

I think this is definitely a miscarriage of justice.

wewillmeetagain · 25/02/2021 22:00

Also how come they can name all the other suspects but one?

speakout · 25/02/2021 22:03

I may take a gift to Luke Mitchell's mother tomorrow. I feel so sorry for her- no matter what the truth is.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2021 22:03

@wewillmeetagain Do you think that on the basis of this programme alone?

janlevinson · 25/02/2021 22:06

I'd like to see a balanced view of this.

wewillmeetagain · 25/02/2021 22:07

@Nicknacky i started reading around it after last night's program and after watching tonights im even more convinced he's innocent. He was a " weirdo" who didn't fit in with society norms and the police found an easy target.

Nicknacky · 25/02/2021 22:10

@wewillmeetagain Honestly, don’t base your opinion on that programme, especially don’t believe the two clowns that are proclaiming to be experts.

If they told me the sky was blue, I would check myself.
