I'm not saying Care is ideal btw, but it was a lifeline for us. (Dd has PDA)
Kids certainly don't go under the radar there like they must in this family, Dd couldn't cope and she's an only child as one of 22 I dread to think where she'd be now.
Certainly not settled and happy, at college and renting a flat with her Boyfriend of four years.

Spudina · 02/03/2021 13:48

I posted on a fb thread last night that immediately got deleted when a few of us mentioned the aspect of the situation that we are not allowed to mention. Plus the fact that you can’t possibly meet the emotional needs if so my any kids, and the other troubling things about the whole set up. The censorship around this family is insane.

I'm so pleased care worked for your daughter. Smile.

I think this is an incredibly valid point. I honestly dont think their parent's actually give much thought to where the children will eventually end up they are just focused on continuing to have more babies and toddlers as these are vlog content.

There doesn't actually seem to be much support and encouragement given to the elder children to make their own way in life or support their ambitions. It suspect this stems from the fact they find it quite useful to keep them at home looking after the littles and working in the bakery.

They get a lot of free meals from
Those box companies where you get everything in.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/03/2021 14:49

Thank you @Same4Walls
Its hard to feel positive about it, though I do know it was for the best and she spent so much time here anyway, helped by the fact that its a 30 second walk from my house.
I was always aware of what could happen if things carried on the way they were and that they would affect her future.
As it is she's doing brilliantly and we have an amazing relationship.
She's a wonderful young woman and I'm very proud of her.
@Orchidflower1 go to the Radford family Wikipedia page. Read the first sentence under the subheading “Family”
Thank you- I did not know that. I thought they were both 14. 🤢

I thought it was going to be something like keeping old Aunty Brenda locked in the spare room to do all the laundry/ childcare/ chores.

That's wonderful! PDA is really poorly understood and the impact it can have on the child and the family are minimised and underestimated. It can be devastating and so often, the child does a lot better not living in the family home and the relationship between the child and family improves when they're no longer living together.
IHaveBrilloHair · 02/03/2021 17:01

It worked for us, but of course comes with a huge amount of guilt.
However I'm glad I was able to recognise what was needed and fight for the help, after everything else had failed.
This family can't possibly have time to do that, if they even notice in the first place.

Levirandal · 02/03/2021 17:15

One thing I remember reading a while ago was that Sue had a nanny. No one was allowed to mention it and one woman who lived in the same town commented about it on SM and got a lot of rudeness from the family. Apparently it well known that they had a nanny.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/03/2021 17:19

It wouldn't surprise me, or cleaners/helpers.
Nothing wrong with that, I have a cleaner but why not just say so?
The usual daily tasks with so many children would mean you'd have no time to spend with them.

ItsJackieWeaverBitch · 02/03/2021 17:33

The channel 5 show is a lot more staged than the channel 4 one that’s for sure. That said, I wonder about the editing of it as it seems the parents will sit there telling the camera how great, special, amazing it is to be part of a big family/have so many kids... then 2 minutes later everything is sooo difficult, that much harder when you have so many kids (well duh, but you bought that on yourself). Last week when they were going on about what a pain Archie was being because of his tantrums I wondered why this seemed such a surprise to them as he’s like the 20th toddler they’ve raised. His behaviour was pretty normal for that age when they want attention but don’t have the words/patience to get it in a calmer way.

As for that thing that mustn’t be spoken about, fine I won’t but I will say that you can’t put that information out there and expect people not to say anything about it at all. That goes for publicity in general- society always have and always will have an opinion on those in the public eye. How long ago we’re these 2 first on tv? They must realise that by now surely?

ItsJackieWeaverBitch · 02/03/2021 17:34

Oh and the uniform thing was ridiculous Hmm no reason to look shabby in secondhand or handed down clothes. Cheeky twats.

Ditto

Families with no kids have cleaners

And with kids have childcare

What’s the issue in having help in the house

The nanny and cleaner make perfect sense. I wondered how anybody could keep a house that organised with 22 kids, they simply can't. Also logically is they have 3 children under 4, how on earth can one parent take the other young ones to school. What do you do with the 3 who need to be in a pram/pushchair when you have day a 5 year old s 6 year old s 7 year old etc. You simply can't do it.
However pretending you don't have help is totally wrong and lying.

Papergirl1968 · 02/03/2021 21:11

Did anyone used to watch the programmes about the Walton sextuplets?
The parents said they did a bit of TV to get some money coming in, and I think the dad gave talks to the WI and similar groups, but they were very selective about what they did.
I think one or two of the girls opted out of the final couple of documentaries.

Yes, I used to love following the story of the Waltons. If I remember correctly, they did a TV show every other year whilst the girls were growing up. They also did other appearances on TV shows around the world; I remember they went on a Japanese show once.
Papergirl1968 · 02/03/2021 21:39

Yes, I remember the Japanese one too!
The parents seemed very level headed.

Yes I think the Walton parents really got the balance right between earning good money from being on TV to secure the girls' future, whilst also maintaining privacy for the girls. Such a lovely family.
Papergirl1968 · 02/03/2021 21:48

Yep.
They are 37 now! Shock

Cattenberg · 02/03/2021 21:50

Ooh, I’d love an update on the Waltons. They were about my age. Two of them were identical twins, I think.

I don’t blame the Radfords for having a nanny and a cleaner. I wouldn’t blame them for having several. But, yes if they do have them, they should be honest.

Chouxbuncity · 02/03/2021 22:19

How would they be able to afford a nanny though? Seems unlikely unless the pies are incredibly successful.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2021 22:20

I don’t think they’ve ever said do alone

Equally they’ve never said had help

I’m just watching episode 2 of the new series. Does anyone know why they switched primary schools?

They have Tillie in Year 6 at one school then everyone younger at a different school.

The pie shop is a sideline.

The money comes from TV & online work.

They have Tillie in Year 6 at one school then everyone younger at a different school.

The primary school the older ones were at had no sibling policy (not sure if it changed or that was always the way and she was just lucky getting them in up until that point) and for one of the DC they weren't offered a place, so from that point them and the younger DC went to the other primary school and they decided to keep the older ones where they were.
