And if so, can anyone enlighten me as to Charley's function? Is he a "professional friend" or something?

I LOVE MY WIFE
I LOVE MY WIFE MORE
MY WIFE'S POORLY SO I LOVE HER THE MOST
I'M A SHAMELESS EEJIT etc etc

I like the famous people who avoid being on telly and sticking their horrid families on too!

I really like Charlie (stary eyes and all) - and why is Eve McGregor going on the trip too - found this very irritating for some reason...

naughtynoonoo · 29/10/2007 18:00

I am loving this though wondering wtf Eve wants to go for. Think Charley is very pissed off about this on the quite. Think they have a tiff next week (Ewan and Charlie). Would you want your hubby with you on a jolly with the girls??? Not
me. Butt out eve, its their show not yours.

MaryAnnSingletomb · 29/10/2007 18:01

yes,agree with you there naughtynoonoo

MrsTweedy · 29/10/2007 18:02

I loved seeing Ewan's family, they all seem so nice. Shame Uncle Denis wasn't there though, I've had a crush on him since I saw him in 'Joseph' in the 70's. And how cool is it to have a brother that's a fighter pilot? I notice he didn't parade his children in front of the camera and his whole family seemed involved whereas Charlie's seemed quite keen for him to be off!

MaryAnnSingletomb · 29/10/2007 18:04

oh I didn't hear the bit about his brother being a fighter pilot !! how glamourous is that ?!

MrsTweedy · 29/10/2007 18:24

I don't think they actually said it, I know from another programme where Ewan went up in his brother's plane, so I'm assuming that was him doing the fly-past when they were in the Scottish castle.

TwoIfBySea · 29/10/2007 23:59

Hey there is nothing wrong with a boys' adventure, the programme before it (Top Gear) is another example. Life is so depressing these days a bit of escapist fun is what is called for on a Sunday evening.

Anyway, I feel sorry for Charley, it is obvious since Mrs. Ewan decided to join in that the whole emphasis has shifted and the atmosphere changed. I don't think anyone wants her to go, wonder if she did. It means that the whole journey is kind of spoiled as everyone will be waiting for her to turn up. It was a bit stop start anyway with them returning to London after the first leg of the journey - ie lets get Scotland out of the way. Why do these travelogues never think we want to see our own country, and the North of England for that matter?

I watched Long Way Round and Mrs. Ewan was saying in that how jealous she was so I doubt she was going to let him go swanning off again, leaving her at home with the kids. Guess this is why she is still married to an actor, keep them on a tight leash! (Actually the new bit that ex is with keeps him on a tight leash, I asked him if it was the same one she walked the dogs with, he didn't find it funny and I wasn't meaning it to be.)

TwoIfBySea · 30/10/2007 00:02

Oh and is there another thread about her going? Anyone care to add a wee link for me please?

expatinscotland · 30/10/2007 00:46

charleys' finer.

ewan's the boak.

boolepew · 30/10/2007 08:47

In the first one Mrs McG. didn't even want to be filmed, now we're going to have to watch her grumping for 10 days! Talk about not trusting your dh! Also in the first they couldn't get their hands on any equipment. Just goes to show, all the products they got now, after the Long Way Done was so popular. What's with Charley's bulgy eyes? Thyroid?!

minko · 30/10/2007 10:10

That Mrs McG is a bit funny looking too. Kind of pretty but kind of odd to look at. Anyway, I was quite touched with Ewan's enthusiasm for his wife coming along. My DP would be mortified if I suggested I come along on his boys holidays. Will be quite funny seeing her wobbling along on her 125 in the desert though...

minko · 30/10/2007 10:57

Oh yuck - just seen this too... Talk about cashing in! And how many takes do you reckon 'exhilerating journey' took to say!

puddle · 30/10/2007 11:01

Ewan's wife probaby wants to keep her eye on him. With v good reason (allegedly).

marthaboo · 30/10/2007 11:02

Oh I cannot believe that cheesy advert, minko. And to think I used to fancy the very pants off Ewan McGregor - that ad has finished it for me (I was waning after the first installment of the new programme).

Damn, who can be my lust-bunny now?

MaryAnnSingletomb · 30/10/2007 11:31

I think that Mrs Ewan has a very French look (obv. being French helps)

ipanemagirl · 30/10/2007 11:41

It's a waste of money!
French wife should stay home!
Stop your eyes bulging!
Stop saying you love your wives!
But I will be watching because it's all so fantastically cringeworthy and awful!

Zebedeedoodah · 30/10/2007 13:27

I thought it was just me [and Charley] who thought Mrs E tagging along was a bit off. I think you're right about the tight leash.

In this weekend's paper both guys also banged on with the 'I love my wife' spiel, which is kinda wearing thin. Although I once saw an interview with Ewan where the poor journo suggested he & the Kidman wench had had a fling during Moulin Rouge and he went ballistic. No wonder no-one dare suggest he's ever been a naughty boy! (has he, I have no idea?)

I'll give it another go next week, but Mr McG's all round adorable lush-ness is also beginning to wear thin.

Bluestocking · 30/10/2007 14:06

Zebs, which paper, which paper?
Charley looks coked to the gills, with those bulging eyes, and his teeth are gross beyond belief - green and mossy.
As for Mrs McG - what a freak - can't she just let the boys have their little adventure? Although I too have heard that EMcG is a great believer in "what goes on location, stays on location" so perhaps she wants to keep an eye.

Bluestocking · 30/10/2007 14:10

You know you all want to go to Ewan and Charley's party.

OP posts:
Zebedeedoodah · 30/10/2007 14:19

It was the tv section of Saturday's Telegraph. Which probably isn't much help.

I'd agree though about Mrs McG. She's got that desperate look that Sadie Frost had when she was still married Jude.

expatinscotland · 30/10/2007 14:21

he's so gross, that ewan. eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww.

it is sort of a let down to see his wife tagging along, though.

i mean, they have THREE little kids.

MaryAnnSingletomb · 30/10/2007 14:23

think they have two children expat, but yes, what about the children ? it does seem a bit desperate imo
