I got quite excited thinking the BBC was giving us a new drama in prime time.

Then someone pointed out is was previously shown on Alibi.

I remember enjoying it in not a very deep way. Lots of female characters. Based on an idea from Val McDermaid.

I’ve been watching this on iplayer... enjoying it.

Clawdy · 04/01/2021 22:32

Only seen the opening episode tonight. Bit complicated, and found I needed sub titles!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 04/01/2021 22:56

I thought l had seen it before, put it down to old age 😂

VenusOfWillendorf · 05/01/2021 09:15

Its in the Silent Witness slot - which is usually on BBC on Mon/Tues nights in January. I'd not heard of Traces but watched and enjoyed it.
Does anyone know if/when Silent Witness is back?

NotSorry · 05/01/2021 18:21

I watched this when it was on Alibi and really enjoyed it. I need subtitles for everything these days 🤣

Bloodypunkrockers · 05/01/2021 19:22

I watched it on alibi and really enjoyed it too

I needed subtitles for the English girl

Clawdy · 05/01/2021 22:26

Martin C looks too old to be with Molly W. The age gap in real life is eleven years, I know, but he looks older than 34, and she looks younger than 23.

SingToTheSky · 05/01/2021 22:35

Excellent, been needing a new (to me!) crime drama to watch, thanks!

fussychica · 05/01/2021 22:56

Watched two episodes so far and will be back for more. I didn't need subtitlesGrin but agree about MC looking a bit old for Molly.

SoupDragon · 05/01/2021 23:04

I'm enjoying this. Not needed any subtitles for anyone (yet!)

They've been filming it but I don't think there is a release date yet.

youngestisapsycho · 05/01/2021 23:09

Just finished.... really enjoyed it 😁 Now to start Bridgerton!

malloo · 05/01/2021 23:10

I'm liking this so far, seems refreshingly good on strong female characters.

JamieLeesCurtains · 06/01/2021 02:47

Not seen it before, really enjoyed tonight's.

Yes, all the men seem to be supporting cast at the moment.
Bluesheep8 · 06/01/2021 08:58

I watched the first one and really enjoyed it. Why are people saying they needed subtitles though? Confused

My subtitles comment was a (jokey) response to a pp saying they needed subtitles

I've no idea why people would need them either. Laura Fraser and John Gordon Sinclair are hardly Rab C Nesbitt

TodgerStrunk · 06/01/2021 11:28

I can't think why I would have watched it on Alibi - but I have seen it before so was surprised to see its "premiere" on BBC, given that's where I was sure I'd seen it before.

Newgirls · 06/01/2021 11:52

Watched the first one - really good! It felt pretty real with the uni stuff, how they talk to each other etc - unlike some police dramas which always seem over heightened.

ageingdisgracefully · 06/01/2021 13:33

I'm quite liking it. It's available to binge, I notice. Hard to resist.

Finding it a bit "Netflix" and glossy though. Interesting story.

Ill carry on watching even if just for Martin Compston in Scottish accent mode.

Scotlass · 06/01/2021 14:31

I binged Smile

Was an interesting story in a Silent Witness /CSI genre. i thought the actors were good. I didn't need subtitles and found their accents were easy to understand but I don't really get why Scottish accents are seen as hard to understand

StanfordPines · 06/01/2021 20:41

I’ve just watched the first two. I’m enjoying it but I feel it’s slightly unrealistic with the way they are all looking after the lead girl. New in a job but running around in tears, turning up late, it just seemed odd to me.

Newgirls · 07/01/2021 09:45

I think it’s because the boss scientist feels guilt over the mooc so is treading on eggshells

Babdoc · 07/01/2021 10:33

I had to laugh at the PPs saying they needed subtitles. None of the characters has a genuine broad Dundee accent - if they had, virtually all English viewers would have needed them!
I’m English and moved to Dundee in 1975, and still live nearby. When I first arrived I could barely understand a word.
Dundonian bears little resemblance to English or indeed to other Scots accents!
Confusingly, the ubiquitous Dundee word “eh” has multiple meanings, including “yes” (aye), “I” (me) “eh” (pardon?) and “a” (indefinite article).
The grammar is also... unusual. Dundonians commonly say he “has went away” instead of he’s gone, for example.
And I’ve never heard a local refer to “Law Hill”, as they repeatedly do on the show. It’s always just called “The Law” up here.
I was disappointed that the programme contained no native speakers, and the dialect was apparently deemed too difficult for the actors to attempt it.
But otherwise it was nice to see well known locations, and the plot is thickening nicely!

SoupDragon · 07/01/2021 10:37

The only accent I struggled with is the character who Pia came to see (odd that I can't remember her name but can remember the name of someone seen so briefly!). I googled her and the actress is Canadian which might explain the slightly odd (to my ears) accent.

SoupDragon · 07/01/2021 10:39

I suspect that's why there were no native speakers in it! I guess they have to go for an accent/dialect most people can understand. Or speak really slowly and loudly.
