I got quite excited thinking the BBC was giving us a new drama in prime time.

Then someone pointed out is was previously shown on Alibi.

I remember enjoying it in not a very deep way. Lots of female characters. Based on an idea from Val McDermaid.

Alibi thread is here, but dont read if you want to avoid spoilers!

thirstyformore does he look better in real life?

MindGrapes · 19/01/2021 21:49

I've just finished watching this. In the final episode surely Dan takes something very specific out of a binbag (from storage) that's been focused on for the whole series?! But they just put it aside?

I actually really liked how the scene with Molly and Dad Macafee in the flat went down. Until the next scene it could have gone either way - bloke ignoring the traumatised girl asking him to leave because it's more important to him to 'prove' or justify that he's really a good guy and he's not doing anything wrong by trampling all over her wishes. I'm sure this happens all the time regardless of any ill intent but it shows the potential fear from the female point of view as being fairly justified especially when you know her backstory.

I did enjoy this, some good acting, and I really liked Emma. I found her relationship with Daniel unconvincing, he looked far too old for her. And I also found the forensic scientist - police guy relationship looked unlikely too. But on the whole, pretty good series, and not dragged out over too many episodes.

purpleme12 · 20/01/2021 23:43

I really enjoyed it

I avoided the thread cos I wasn't sure if it was one with spoilers cos it was all on iplayer!

JamieLeeCurtains · 21/01/2021 07:31

I've just finished watching it. I thought it was pretty good, but I think it's extremely unlikely that even the wonderful Dr Salvador would have been able to excavate that boot print like that in that type of soil in that particularl location.

But I'm glad Emma and Daniel got together in the end! (They did, didn't they?? I'm terrible at reading scenes.)

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 08:13

I read it that they were saying bye

Clawdy · 21/01/2021 08:41

I wasn't sure if it was a happy ending or goodbye, more likely goodbye, I think. Can't imagine that relationship working with that history. Imagine if they stayed together and had a child - one day they'd find out that grandad was in jail for strangling grandma!

SoupDragon · 21/01/2021 08:42

I'm not sure whether it was a goodbye or not. I think it was perhaps deliberately ambiguous.

Clawdy · 21/01/2021 08:53

A second series is planned, so maybe we will find out then ! Unless Emma isn't in it.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2021 08:58

I suppose it will be like Silent Witness then, showing the forensic investigations.

I liked the burgeoning romance between the policeman and head scientist - they were both a little shy and awkward and I liked the gentleness of it which was unusual for TV

JamieLeeCurtains · 21/01/2021 09:10

At one point I expected a big reveal that Emma and Daniel were half-siblings, like in a genetic sexual attraction / recognition way, ie same father, the very prolific Daddy MacAfee. And therefore have to stop shagging seeing each other.

I must be weird. But I really though the script was pointing at it with so that instant recognition / attraction / emotion stuff.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2021 09:11

I thought that too!

purpleme12 · 21/01/2021 09:12

I wasn't getting that from it at all!

MindGrapes · 21/01/2021 09:12

So did no-one else notice the very prominent pink material that Daniel pulled out of the bin bag in the final ep? Was that just a teasey red herring?

JamieLeeCurtains · 21/01/2021 09:41

@MindGrapes

No! I'll have to watch it again.

How old is Daniel supposed to be? The actor is 36. Just wondering if there will be a story arc across into the next series about whether or not a young Daniel was forced to help his dad hide the crime in some way and what he remembers / pieces together.

But he'd be a teenager, not a traumatised child; so that doesn't work.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2021 09:44

@purpleme12

I wasn't getting that from it at all!
It was the way they kept on and on about how they had been instantly tracked to each other and fallen in love so quickly. It didn't need mentioning that often.
LadyEloise · 21/01/2021 09:49

@JamieLeeCurtains I thought they might be half siblings too. Particularly in the penultimate episode where the father threatened Izzie in the hospital.
My flipping recorder didn't record the final episode. SadAngryI've no idea why.
I'm in Ireland and we can't get the BBC Player.
I've looked up the final episode synopsis online but it's just not the same.

I didn't think the father was menacing enough for Emma to jump out over the balcony.

Pimlicojo · 21/01/2021 09:52

I spotted the pink item coming out of the bin bag and thought it was the dress! Seems it was a red herring.

JamieLeeCurtains · 21/01/2021 10:03

@LadyEloise have a look at You Tube - sometimes people put episodes from dramas and soaps on there a few days after they've aired.

littlefireseverywhere · 21/01/2021 10:07

I really enjoyed it, thought it was well thought out and did like the fact it was only 45 mins with no advert breaks.

LadyEloise · 21/01/2021 10:12

Thank you JamieLeeCurtains.
Imagine not recording the final episode having watched all the others.

It didn't record "Love It or List It" either. But I can get All4 here.

I've even written to the BBC boss, suggesting that the Player should be made available to people living in a non BBC tv license paying country for a fee- subscription.
The reply was they were NOT considering it.
If not, why not ?
It would be a nice little earner for the cash strapped corporation.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2021 10:19

Might it be because they have their "box sets" on Britbox?

stumbledin · 21/01/2021 15:17

It was originally on Alibi and you can get on demand services from the group UKTV, but ... sorry to say not online at the moment. Probably because currently on BBC.

But worth keeping an eye on. I was once able to catch up on a series I missed the end of from them.

And again as I said up thread, interesting how many of the comments on this thread chime with comments on the thread from when it was first shown on Alibi.

DipSwimSwoosh · 21/01/2021 18:23

I loved it but what was the motive for the killing?

JaimieLeeCurtains · 21/01/2021 18:30

I know, @DipSwimSwoosh, it's like there's a huge gap in the 'resolution' of the story.

Why was Marie buried up on the Law and not more simply and effectively hidden under the concrete? Why did she have to be dismembered? How many people were involved in the activities at the twin disposal sites? How old was Daniel and was he unwittingly or unwittingly involved with disposing of evidence?

So many questions.
