Am I really the only one to find Matthew Barley from Classical Star swoonsome?

I'm not normally one for a telly crush...but...this man is perfect looking. Really.

And of course, he's very musically talented too .

honestly, you don't know what you're missing...

Ergh, frankly, although the music is lush, and nice voice too. Will try shutting my eyes next week.

I quite fancy Emily - think she'd be dynamite in the sack - you can always tell with those girls who look as if their clothes aren't really on them.

Also Victoria the violinist was quite clearly falling for the tango guy, and who could blame her.

Right choice to sack Ben, he needs to grow up like about a decade.

Gosh, not too involved in this am I?

choosyfloosy · 24/10/2007 20:06

Oh hey, i meant to say, the one I'm wobbly about is Charles Hazlewood, what a guy!

chonky · 24/10/2007 20:08

I only saw it for the first time last night and I was mesmerised...X FActor is utter shoite by comparison (it's shoite anyway )

I'm glad we're not going to have to fight over Matthew.

hello

well I can't see this programme obv but a couple of people I know are involved in it, judging or something

he is quite nice. But his hair is a bit shite...

chonky · 24/10/2007 20:13

HEllo you

He's had it cut. The awful curls are gone.

I was getting worried for a sec that you were going to say that you'd met him, at which point I would have died of envy.

What's happening to me? I'm turning into some mad 30 something year old woman who lusts after men on the telly.

MJC! Do you know these people? [worships]

Brings back the halcyon days of Musicality which I was obsessed with. Less with Operatunity for some reason, though I did watch it.

MrsJohnCusack · 24/10/2007 22:07

oh good - he would look muhc better without the wet dog curls
I'm trying to think if I have met him - it's entirely possible looking at his CV

I know some of the people choosyfloosy, not massively well, but music people never go away, everyone knows everyone else, it's all very incestuous

I LOVED MUsicality too, I was completely obsessed with it!

RosaTransylvania · 24/10/2007 23:08

DDs and I watched this tonight - I videoed it for them. Why is it on so late FGS, the children love it and it has given DD1 some food for thought re practising times.
I love Jeanette, the slightly less good violinist and Emily.

Marina · 24/10/2007 23:17

MrsJC, do you know Jason then?
I agree, there is so much on this programme I'd like the dcs to see, so why so late?
Am very ambivalent about the proposed outcome (a recording contract with uber-pillock Steve "Il Divvy" Abbott is supposed to represent artistic achievement is it? ) but agree that the work Barley and the other teachers are doing with the young musicians is inspiring and thought-provoking.
I'm sorry, chonky, all I can think of is Nathan Barley when I see Matthew and especially Charles in earnest staged convos but I am deriving a lot of guilty pleasure from this programme nonetheless. Am deeply relieved strange clarinettist never made it through auditions - an Alexander Technique practitioner is going to build a pension on him in later years...

Marina · 24/10/2007 23:19

Rosa, I thought that violinist's back story really was interesting, and quite sad. Not many musicians make it professionally with no support at their back at all, she is a very determined young woman.

MrsJohnCusack · 24/10/2007 23:34

all clarinettists are strange

yes Jason is one of the people, he conducts one of the orchestras I used to play in (sob) in London now

and a few other people
I wish I could see it

Marina · 24/10/2007 23:50

He used to be at ours, he's a sweetie. Although he has had an odd haircut since I last saw him

Marina · 25/10/2007 12:59

It looks like you can stream the first two episodes here missus

emsiewill · 25/10/2007 23:17

OMG! I find that Matthew man really annoying.

Sorry.

Enjoying the programme though...

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 27/10/2007 05:42

can only view within the UK

bugger

chonky · 27/10/2007 09:27

I'm glad to see that there are still no takers for Matthew. emsie, you're mistaken if you think that I'm drawn to Matthew's personality and intellect

Heck, I'm turning into some lecherous old hag.

OP posts:
CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 27/10/2007 09:52

turning

emsiewill · 28/10/2007 09:37

that is how I feel when I look at that man's face, and I am not jealous of him, if you get my drift.

You're welcome to him...

Marina · 31/10/2007 09:41

So, what do we think of last night's performances and dismissals? I think the right five are staying on.
I am so glad to see Karen the larky bassoonist still in there, and Ian the shy guitarist. They both seem to be really benefitting from the workshop and improvisational approach.
I know Victoria went off to Moscow afterwards so had assumed she didn't make the final cut. Jeanine was clearly ill that week, poor thing
I am torn between being bothered by the competition/recording contract premise of the programme full stop and the glimpses of how young musicians can be truly inspired by Matthew Barley's approach to music education

Bundle · 31/10/2007 10:27

marina, dh is a bit chippy about this prog as he didn't get the gig,as it were. and he thinks the brief spurts of music are the result of sacrificing it to put in more of the formulaic x-factor stylee judges banter (true, but surely that's why it was commissioned??)

i love the guitarist

Marina · 31/10/2007 10:56

Oh really bundy - that's such a shame. I find the judgy stuff absolutely cringetastic despite having a lot of respect for Matthew in general, and knowing Jason from way back. I'd like to think the stiltedness is their way of telling the viewers they hate it too
And do not get me started on the "viewer has short-term memory of gnat" voice-over
(Will check the credits to see which inferior personage Done Your Man Wrong next time , and do a Quiet Hate for you)

Bundle · 31/10/2007 10:59

snort!

he's just come back from China (filming Lang Lang for SBS) and also has a gig coming up in Jan 08 with the Britten/Pears lot, so things not too bad

MaryAnnSingletomb · 31/10/2007 13:09

just seen a picture of Matthew Barley with nasty longish hair - not a good look

florenceuk · 09/11/2007 15:42

me and dh reckoned Mr MB looked like a slightly more refined Monty Don. I did enjoy watching this on Tuesday, even if I know nothing about classical music. Anyone want to give me an informed view as to who should have stayed/left?
