I watched a few from the week just gone ....

We're uo the Chrismas 1999 (though they seemed to have a lot of episodes leading up to it , no-one had sat down to dinner when I stopped watching .)

I got up to Sam convincing Peggy , Frank and Janine to go over to the DiMarcos for dinner , but Peggy insisted if she did , they'd do Christmas Tea at the Queen Vic.
Then for some reason, the 2nd episode jumped back in time to the summer Confused
I need to find the right one .
So:

Catch Up
They had the Stag&Hen in Amsterdam
Ian was riled that Steve Owen went along
Kathy is warning Steve Owen away from Mel to protect her son
Phil isn't exactly pleased to see Kathy back
Phil and Lisa are together , Mark keeps looking over like a kicked puppy
Varry and Natalie are off/on/off/on with her interfering Mum putting her oar in.
Lucy in hospital
Bepes wife sent a card to the son even though she left him when he was a baby
Robbie being a prat (as per)
Giani being a bit precious over Jackie , jealous of Beppe and Jackie getting along .
Lots of bids on the Vic
Ian has secretly bid on it for Mel
Terry and Irene (Troy still hanging about)
Another bidder I cannot remember

Peggy and Frank going on holiday in the New Year , Roy offered to look after Janine (Pat wasn;t pleased )
Janine and Jamie getting it n, Janine pretending to be pregnant .
Jamie being nasty to Kathy
Mels Dad going out with Pauline .

I'll see the Christmas Day one hopefully tomorrow .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/03/2022 14:01

Watched the last episode
Ian thinks he has the Vic, but Grunt has to sign the papers .
But he's given his share to Phil................... (who isn't renewing his subscription to The Ian Beale Fan Club anytime soon)

And they still haven't had Christmas Day yet ......

Limer · 23/03/2022 18:44

I've just watched about six episodes up to Christmas Day. Loads going on!

Very pleased that Terry has punched Troy in the face and slung him out!
Quite pleased that Barry & Natalie are back on.
Intrigued as to whether Ian & Mel will actually get married.
Confused about Phil selling his half of the Vic to Dan for £5?
Hope Lucy gets better soon.

Loved the (fake) snow scene at the end of the Christmas Day episode!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/03/2022 21:29

I've watched a few episodes beyond New Year now ( no spoilers Grin ) , I can only remember bits of it ( I had my very new baby DS back then)

Ian's house puzzles me .
The kitchen is on the left , the staircase on the right but its not a straight flight , it seems to go part way then a 90 degree turn.
Who lives there now , or is this one of the houses turned into flats bu Jack Branning ?

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 28/03/2022 23:29

I think Ian bought two houses and knocked them together which is why there could be a weird staircase?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/05/2022 14:30

Ooohh so we've jumped through the next few months (though I have no idea what month it is in EastendersLand)

Ian has aquired what looks ike an old school and is renovating ( or rather funding and over-seeing someone else working ) it into Luxury Flats .
Beale's Homes

But these flats don't appear in the present day ( or in my memory of EE ) so I'm guessing they didn't come to fruition?
(And Ian'n'Laura had a drunken snog then haul themselves upstairs which I could do with bleaching from my eyes !)

Limer · 22/05/2022 10:00

Ooohh so we've jumped through the next few months (though I have no idea what month it is in EastendersLand)

I'm still a few days behind but it's June 2000 - the Euro football competition is on, and the letter Natalie got from the Walford Gazette was dated June 2000.

I can't understand why Mel and Ian are still married.

The whole saga over Dan owning half the pub and Phil winning it back via a poker game was just ridiculous.

EmmaC78 · 26/05/2022 22:37

Glad to see others watch the old episodes too, it's my lunch hour escape when I am working from home.

GattinaGattona · 27/05/2022 09:24

Same! But I’m also watching the current ee and 2010 so I’m well confused 😅

Tunnocksmallow · 14/06/2022 17:20

Iconic day!! The Slater’s have arrived on The Square!

Limer · 15/06/2022 10:27

I'm a few days behind so am enjoying the chaos of them all in Spain. But I am finding it difficult to believe Frank & Pat still hold a candle for each other. I hope it doesn't all end in tears - I like the stability of Frank & Peggy, and Roy & Pat.

I love Terry & Irene, when she pushed him in the swimming pool - priceless!!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/07/2022 14:54

Today was Christmas Day with everyone piling round each others houses .

Half the Square to the Slaters ( Terry , Billy, Janine , Garry)
Others to Paulines ( including Eddie and his very annoying daughter Kerri )
Pat , Roy (on a truce) , Barry and Natalie ( Nick and Ashley had broken into the Evans house and stole their entire Christmas , now Dot is out of prison)
Ashley reminds me of the ick Emery Denim Clad Bovver Boy !

It's now common knowledge that Martin is the Dad of Chloe .

The Phil'n'Mel Christmas Day Bunk Up .
Though when Lisa threw a glass of red wine over Mel , they were in the Vic. Mel is living at the Vic. So why would she go for a shower at Phil's house when her room(and clothes) are two feet down the hall at The Queen Vic

Lisa is getting the strident shriekiness in her voice now , I'll need to mute her .
Peggy has trashed the Vic with a baseball bat (on account of everyone buggering off and ruining her Faaaamily Christmas )

Limer · 19/07/2022 16:57

I've just watched the Christmas Day episodes. But was there a missing episode, what happened to the cashbox that Nick stole and hid under Pauline's sink, and suddenly Little Mo had a black eye?

I'm warming to the Slaters, does Kat not work? Where does her money come from? I'm assuming there's going to be a harrowing storyline of domestic abuse with Little Mo & Trevor Sad

I hope Pat & Roy get back together.

Ian's bankruptcy was ridiculous, it would never have happened like that. And suddenly he's in love with Laura? Does this mean he & Mel will finally divorce?

Agree @70isaLimitNotaTarget that Mel going to Phil's house for a shower was crazy. Not to mention her sleeping with him!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/07/2022 17:16

Another Eastenders New Year has been and gone ........

in no particular order:
Martin has told Pauline he's the Dad , she goes round to see Sonia but gets turfed out , then decides The Fowlers are going to get Chloe

Nick Cotton has been giving Martin drugs (to get him addicted and i his debt) but is furious when Martin gave some to Ash, so punished him by giving him a horrible 'trip' . Mark relaliates by spiking Nicks beer and getting him onto the rail bridge where he falls/was pushed . Roll in one the the nastiest coppers ever (makes Marshall look soft)

Pat and Roy are on the verge of getting back together . Peggy is horrifed at Barry and Natalies anniversary party to see Pat in the Vic

The Slaters go to the Vic thinking the house is safe (erm nope , all the teens are having a party there)

Phil has renaged on his deal with Beppe to buy into the Club but Steve Owen agrees to re-instate his offer
Phil keeps sniffing round Mel goading her about telling Steve and Lisa
Lisa is getting more annoying (yes I didn't think it was possible ), jealous of any time he spends in the Vic (with Mel) and getting drunk (or making a show of yourself as Phil would say)

If Mel does tell Lisa , she'll blame Mel for being an utter harlot and obviously not Phil . Lisa is now starting to set her sights on Mark again . Maybe she's seen the writing on the wall ? Or wants to make Phil jealous ?

Little Mo is still with my Trevor but not in a good state mentally or phyisically Sad

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/07/2022 17:22

Oh the cashbox was found (with the cash) after Eddie spilled coffee and Pauline went to fetch the cleaning materials .

Mo went back to Trevor IIRC for Christmas , the Slater sisters took her out to buy a nice new dress , but Trevor didn't approve .....

He hung round the Square until she agreed to go back home with him , saw the present from Billy still wrapped and locked the car doors menacingly .
on NYE Charlie gets a phone call from Little Mo that she's fine and they're on a lovely holiday . Then you see her battered face ..she thinks she cannot go back to her family as they all warned her

Limer · 28/07/2022 07:46

How can Ashley be 16 in 2001, that means he was born in 1985? Surely he wasn't born until a few years after Nick first left the Square, so early 90s?

Ian talking about his poverty-stricken childhood - the Beales were the wealthy family in the early days, they lived in a lovely big flat, Pete owned his own business and did very well!

The writers never let a few facts get in the way of a good story!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/07/2022 08:05

I cannot remember how long ago it was when Dot met Ash and his Mum , I know she bought him games ( XBox type) and training shoes .
His Mum was always very careful not to ask for anything for herself ( went out of her way to decline Dots offer of money for food etc , but I'm sure she sold his trainers )
Then Nick was on the scene in the background and told her they were moving and he wanted her to go with them , but Dot refused so they slid away .
Ash would've been 8-9 I think ?

Yesterday was Zoe Slaters birthday , Kat was going round with a smacked arse face then Charlie did his "My special little girl Zoe , my baby" speech
Which meant Kat locking herself in her room in floods of tears , a Kat'n'Charlie Heart-to-Heart and the "She's not your baby though , she's MINE . She's my baby"

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/08/2022 19:40

Mel and Steve get married tomorrow .
Steve engineers a cosy drink in the club for him, Phil and Mel then gets 'called away' leaving the phone on so he can hear Phil and Mel discuss their Christmas Day bunk up.

Lisa is pregnant (but only Dr Anthony knows ) . Living with Mark at the moment (being very needy and cling-ey) but wanting to get back with Phil , who is not interested . Cue loads of Lisas strident shreiking which makes me want to take off my own ears with a scythe .

Bored with the Jamie/Sonia/Zoe/Kerri/Janine/Robbie crap .

tobee · 05/08/2022 15:44

I'm really behind on both catching up on Classic Eastenders and this thread. Ian's only just had the bailiffs in where I'm up to.

I expect this has been discussed but I'm so sad watching Gemma McCluskie as Kerry Skinner. I wouldn't say she was the world's greatest actress but I think she's very entertaining and quite a natural comedian in a rough hewn way.

Just wanted to share it here.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 05/08/2022 20:32

I’d didn’t know about that tobee how awful. I like Kerry she’s very funny.

i felt the same when Frankie was in it. Poor woman

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/08/2022 22:06

Todays episodes :

Mel and Steve Wedding
Steve's Mum turns up and Phil turns on the charm
Steve whispers to Mel after they exchange rings "Just so you know".....glances at Phil .."I know "

Steve's Mum is quite horrible to Mel but does it so classily , not your usual Eastenders FishWife

They have to evacuate the Club for the Vic.
Phil gets everyones back up , insults Mel and Kathy in front of Ian.

Phil, drunk , ends up with a bullet in his back , rolling down the steps . Dr Anthony comes to is rescue (Sonia isn't SuperSonia at this time . She's more worried about Jamie . Her face when she sees Phil writhing is Meh , couldn't happen to a nicer bloke
Lots of suspects . I mean who wouldn't want to put Phil in the gutter like a dog ?

EmmaC78 · 06/08/2022 20:07

I didn't know that about Gemma McCluskie either. Just read some of the news reports from the time and it's really tragic.

Tunnocksmallow · 19/08/2022 17:38

Feck me, Sonia really has always been bloody annoying hasn’t she! Always nagging and moaning and poking and pushing into peoples business… how on earth has she lasted this long??

tobee · 19/08/2022 19:19

I used to really like Sonia back then! I remember wanting to look after her, especially as she didn't have her mum on hand. It's weird to think how she changed over time.

I'd also forgotten about Janine and her weird relationship with Terry. And her trying to buy the friendship of the other young people.

I'm torn because Evil Janine gave us lots of ott storylines that were entertaining. But I wonder what she would have been like if she's stayed as she is now. Probably not enough mileage in this Janine character though.

It's also funny when you think of how the characters who are in it now are going to pan out in the future. Even the not seen Gavin, about to marry Kathy in classic eastenders.

tobee · 19/08/2022 19:21

I watched the wedding/Phil shot episodes last night. They were fun with the extra bits like Jim stripping etc. I remember the publicity stuff at the time, with the suspects being scrutinised in The Radio Times etc. Grin
