We have been following Our Girl since 2014 and although there are to be no further series, we revisit time and time again to discuss. As an alternative, we are also watching the 1990s series of Soldier Soldier.

It looks even more Elizabethan with the veil.

eejittwo · 16/02/2021 21:48

Hope the Elf’s got runproof mascara

Rhubarb01 · 16/02/2021 21:49

Surprised that the Colonel is there too. Very nice wedding.

eejittwo · 16/02/2021 21:50

How disappointingI was expecting a parachute jump at least.

Ilovelblue · 16/02/2021 21:50

Wel, what a lovely end to the series. There have certainly been quite a few highs and lows in the various episodes.

Who’s that in the short green dress.

Rhubarb01 · 16/02/2021 21:51

A happy ending for some, not so happy for others. When will poor Jeremy actually be happy with someone who doesn't run off back to their husband?

eejittwo · 16/02/2021 21:52

Ah, well, a happy ending at last.

Ilovelblue · 16/02/2021 21:53

We're starting on the last series next Tuesday. Is it time to start thinking about what we want to watch after that?

I will probably need something I can watch on DVD as I have my laptop and my phone - not ideal to type on a phone and not ideal watching a TV programme on my phone either.

Any ideas?

So that sees the end of series 6. A real mixed bag. That wedding was a bit of an extravaganza for a couple of privates. I except you could accept the Colonel and his wife would be there as she was his driver but other than that I think it was more of an end of series episode than what might really have happened. Enjoyable though so now roll on series 7.

Rhubarb01 · 16/02/2021 22:20

Yes, series 7. I've a vague recollection of it being on TV the first time, but haven't rewatched it since, so that will be interesting.

As for future series..mmh...do we want it to be military themed? Something historical? Present day? I can think of quite a few old series that have a lot of episodes, depends on availability and appeal.

eejittwo · 17/02/2021 07:23

Suggestions, please, Rhu.

Magi84 · 17/02/2021 10:31

Yes please Rhu you did wonderfully well suggesting Soldier Soldier so I am sure you can come up with ideas for another series, providing as you say it is available somewhere. Not sure we can stick with military as don't think many of them around.

Rhubarb01 · 17/02/2021 17:56

I've done a quick scan through the free streaming services to see what there might be of potential interest and easily available:

UKTV Drama - Bramwell, Dr Findlay (the rebooted version 90's) for historical/medical interest

BBC iplayer - Peaky Blinders (I've never watched it), The Musketeers (sort of military with added Elvis interest) Jonathan Creek (quirky), Merlin (a bit family), Hustle (not quite crime and a bit of comedy)

I've got Britbox and there are some long-running dramas on there, mostly from the last twenty years or so like The Syndicate, Clocking off, Lark Rise to Candleford (bit of CJ interest) Cranford or North and South if you fancy some bonnets and breeches..

Older stuff - only on DVD and a bit peculiar to my interests 'Danger UXB' and 'Secret Army' which are going back a bit. Even Upstairs Downstairs the original series (loved that!)

Thoughts anyone?

Magi84 · 17/02/2021 21:04

Thanks Rhu for these suggestions. I remember enjoying Bramwell many moons ago. As for Peaky Blinders very powerful and extremely well acted. I think the violence and numerous killings might be a bit much though. My vote would be The Musketeers especially as you rightly say there is the added perk of LP aka Elvis being in it. All four are pretty easy to watch though. Also there would be no irritating adverts to contend with as it is BBC. I think eejit and I found the ads on UK TV a right pain.

Anyway I shall look forward to seeing what the consensus is and I am sure will enjoy whichever way it goes.

Ilovelblue · 17/02/2021 22:33

Hi all. I have a feeling at the back of my mind that we did say we'd use The Musketeers as a watchalong after Soldier Soldier. I'm not at the forefront of technology and can ony really type fast enough to keep up on my laptop which would mean watching the programme on my phone - far from ideal. From my point of view, I would be best with a DVD to view through the TV, so as I've not seen The Musketeers (and there is the Elvis/Luke connection of course) that would be perfect. I've never seen Peaky Blinders either but not sure I like the sound of the gory scenes (thanks magi). I did have a very soft spot all those years ago for Anthony Andrews in Danger UXB and that is also available on DVD.

eejit what are your thoughts?

OP posts:
eejittwo · 17/02/2021 22:33

Ahem - I have Musketeers in DVD AND downloaded from iTunes. Haven’t seen Bramwell or Peaky Blunders. Have fond memories of Lark Rise - lots of shouting ‘No, don’t do that you silly besom (or male equivalent) at the telly. But happy to have my horizons widened - I missed Soldier Soldier when it was broadcast, though I caught about half of Sharpe ‘live’ (and bought the videos ...)

eejittwo · 17/02/2021 22:34

PS - who was in the Dr Finlay remake again?

Magi84 · 18/02/2021 07:27

I think it was David Rintoul eejit

eejittwo · 18/02/2021 07:36

Ooh, yes - another bit of eye-candy ...

I'm watching tonight's episode of Holby City and I think Qaseem from the first series of OG has turned up in it.
