Anyone else watched Rebecca yet? I watched it with DH last night. Really enjoyed it but it does have quite a lot of changes to the story, so if you know the novel it could be a bit annoying. I didn't mind the changes but DH was a bit Hmm

I loved it! Locations, costumes, actors - everything about it!
If you are a big fan of the book or older film adaptations maybe you might not like it but it’s 20 years or so since I saw the Hitchcock film so I watched this with an open mind & loved everything about it!

We recognised the fantastic tiled hall from Enola Holmes too.

I watched it a few days ago and enjoyed it very much, despite the differences.

Couldn't finished it, beautifully filmed but just so dull.

Finish, even

Many of the outdoor scenes in the U.K. are filmed around hartland quay, north Devon

What was that god awful mustard suit about?!!

I thought it was fine, but the balance was off, they really took their time over the first half and then really raced through to the end. I just think it lacked the power of the book

It also lacked the tense drama of other productions but was good all the same. The one with Emilia Fox a few years back was closer to the book and a bit more frightening. Nevertheless it was enjoyable and Lily James was excellent as Mrs de W.

I didn't think the Emilia Janes one was frightening as such, but it is a very good take on the book. Charles Dance is very good as Maxim he comes across as more self absorbed than Armie Hammer and I think Maxim especially in the beginning was very self absorbed. It's worth a watch on YouTube.

jessstan1 · 29/10/2020 10:32

I don't remember the mustard suit.

LolalovesLondon · 29/10/2020 18:45

It was very mustard! However, my attention was on the man wearing it ❤️

Oh blimey yes, it is very mustard. I wonder why it didn't strike me particularly at the time. I agree Max de Winter was very unremarkable, that's probably why.

Their relationship in the book was much more distant, they were too affectionate in this. She wasn’t plain enough and Danvers was too glamorous. Ben also had Down’s Syndrome, for some reason they side-stepped an actor with Down’s and played it ‘safe’, I’m pretty sure they could have cast talent with Down’s to portray him. In all, I felt I needed to apologise to DH for forcing him to watch it with me. Insipid.

I believe the interiors were filmed at Waddesdon Manor in Bucks. My brother is an extra and was asked to go there to film this (but couldn't make the dates.)

I don’t think there was no romance in the book end of ch 24 has the kissing in the chair that’s at the start of the film, she narrates about the fun romantic Max in Italy, and it never says in the book that Ben has Downs.

Couldn't finish it. Dull, badly cast.
