Anyone watch this last night?

I was really looking forward to it as I've loved the previous ones (mostly; there's been a couple of dud series) but this seemed a bit 'flat'. Not sure if was down to the lack of a studio audience, but it felt like Greg & Alex were just going through the motions and the contestants were playing stock roles.

Hoping it'll hit it's stride and that we're not headed for a series 6-esque snoozefest Sad

oh bugger, rogue apostrophe in "its" Blush

Yeah, it did seem to be "feeling it's way" a little bit. Maybe it will improve when we get to know the participants a little better within the context of the show.

JoyDivisionOvenGlovesx · 16/10/2020 13:27

I thought exactly the same. Really flat and stilted.

I’m absolutely going to stick with it as I’ve been a fan since the off, but if that was first episode I’d seen I don’t think I’d have warmed to it. I like the contestants from other stuff, especially Richard, Johnny and Daisy May so that’s helping.

The spacing & no audience really did detract from it, but good on ‘em for getting it done and out there.

I disagree, it was different for sure but for me it's about the tasks and they were still hilarious. That said, I loved seeing poor Daisy trying not too wee her pants Grin

PickAChew · 16/10/2020 13:35

Daisy looked like she was about to go into labour. I don't think the studio layout helped. The laughter was also added on afterwards, after showing it in a cinema, IIRC, so they only had each other to feed off.

wafflyversatile · 16/10/2020 13:56

I think/hope it was just the weirdness of being in the company of others no masks socially distanced no audience etc. Remember they'd all been on lockdown too. It can't have felt very natural. They should split the two gigglers up to spread it around.

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/10/2020 22:01

Did anyone else think in the studio it looked like Katherine Parkinson (?) was about to burst into tears? There just seemed to be something about her, she looked really uncomfortable at points and like she was close to tears. But maybe it was just me!

PickAChew · 21/10/2020 23:13

That's her general demeanour. She's always holding herself like she's about to spew forth!

icelolly99 · 23/10/2020 20:26

I thought it was the funniest TV I've seen in ages. I watch with my teenagers and we all find it hilarious.

Lalallama · 23/10/2020 21:20

@covetingthepreciousthings If you watch this it shows why Katherine Parkinson looked close to tears, she'd been crying with laughter. Richard Herring on Twitter said they were all so giddy with actually being out doing something normal they couldn't stop laughing.

june2007 · 23/10/2020 21:23

I thought it was funny. I will tune in again.

Blueemeraldagain · 23/10/2020 21:31

I actually thought the first episode was a little.... earnest. Trying a bit too hard. The low points thing was... odd. I thought the second was a lot better. I’m really enjoying so far! Glad there are still strong, original ideas for tasks.

But I also enjoyed season 6. I thought season 5 oscillated between dull and unfunnily weird.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/10/2020 21:40

Thanks @Lalallama that's a relief, thought it seemed odd but good that it's from laughing!

Kljnmw3459 · 24/10/2020 08:23

I think this show works fine even with social distancing, it's mostly about the tasks which are mainly individual anyways.

KurriKawari · 24/10/2020 10:59

I really do wish they'd given Daisy a more comfortable chair.

They always sit alphabetically first name.

I liked it. I think the tasks have been great, but i am missing the audience.

Rummikub · 25/10/2020 18:30

Is this the new series on channel 4?

PickAChew · 25/10/2020 20:07

Yep. They have the rights to it, now.

Rummikub · 25/10/2020 21:08

I saw (on a trailer?) that there had been complaints about the random points system.
I think they’re trying to be ‘fair ‘
But it’s taken something away I think.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 25/10/2020 21:28

@KurriKawari

I really do wish they'd given Daisy a more comfortable chair.
I watched the second episode and she looked so uncomfortable.

Apart from that it is quite good. Haven't watched it before.

If anyone's interested, Ed Gamble is doing a podcast running alongside each episode Smile

I think it's still very funny but it does have a different feel now it looks all different - I think we'll get used to it though and I'm so pleased they were able to go ahead with filming and broadcasting it.
