Time to put Demis Roussos on the record player and lay out the canapes.

That was great, aspirational 1970's to a tee

ageingdisgracefully · 15/10/2020 07:35

Anyone remember Meantime, with Tim Roth and Gary Oldman? So funny and evocative of its time.

I love Mike Leigh films...

lollipoprainbow · 15/10/2020 08:12

Adore Mike Leigh especially life is sweet, Alison was wonderful in that.

JamminDoughnuts · 15/10/2020 08:16

I loved Another Year, so poignant

JamminDoughnuts · 15/10/2020 08:19

and Secrets and Lies

@Defenbaker

We were also laughing at Tony and you have described him perfectly Grin

The utter contempt and rage was spilling out of the screen. Glorious.

Oh, Another Year - rarely have I felt such a surge of emotion towards a character, watching a film of this genre. Leslie Manville is an extraordinary actress.
JamminDoughnuts · 15/10/2020 22:30

She is so good

Nat6999 · 15/10/2020 23:02

Thank you.. just watched

Love Mike Leigh films...secrets and lies is one of my favourite films!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 17/10/2020 19:58

I watched this for the third time. It struck me that the performances of the female actresses are all outstanding. The male ones are OTT and not at all believable, in my opinion.

Feminist10101 · 17/10/2020 22:18

They’re all a bit OTT. It’s what unnerves you. ;)
