Weekdays we had Grange Hill and biker grove then a break for dinner after which mum took control for Coronation Street, East Enders and Brookside.

Saturday afternoons we always had a buffet lunch with random family dropping in and would dip 8n and out of Baywatch, Knightrider, The Incredible Hulk.

Saturday Evening was gameshows like Generation Game, Blind Date, Surprise Surprise.

Rainy Sunday afternoons were the BBC and ITV dramas like Goodnight Mr Tom, 5 Children and IT or the really old films like Jason and the Argonauts.

Mutunus · 07/10/2020 20:43

We didn't have a tv until we moved when I was 14. Until then entertainment was either the radio or Dad's folk LPs on a home-made gramaphone thing.
He did surprise me though by buying Deep Purple In Rock for my 16th.

I left my family home when I was 13, so up until then it was Songs of Praise, Miss Marple (loved Joan Hickson!), and generally just the news. Oh, and I think the weekday 5.30 slot was Dr Kildare or the kids from Fame.

After I left, Grange Hill (wasn’t allowed to watch it previously), Howard’s Way, EastEnders, Going Live. Happy times Grin

Eckhart · 13/10/2020 01:02

Mum used to get me to 'watch emmerdale farm for her' while she was making tea. Then when we were eating, I could tell her what happened and we could discuss the storyline.

Genius way to keep me from under her feet while she cooked, stay up to date with her program, and find a way to discuss interesting emotional topics with me.
