Recommendation for series to watch with 10 and 7 year old

Snappyteabread · 02/10/2020 18:14

Looking for recommendation. We have Netflix and Prime. And bbc.
What can we watch which we will all enjoy? We loved watching the Race Around the World Series.
I don't want to always watch Marvel films so looking for something that we will all look forward to.

We've got same age kids (and also really enjoyed Race around the World). Our latest discovery has been the PG versions of Taskmaster. All available on Sky, with swearing bleeped. There's a bit of risqué stuff that mainly goes over their heads, but generally it's hilarious and all of us really enjoy it.

Mine are 8 & 12, family shows we all enjoy are:
Survivor (we binge watch old series and the kids are surprisingly into it)
Merlin (netflix - I'm not in UK tho)
Mandolorian
Once Upon a Time
Next in Fashion

Also during lockdown we got into watching a 'lightweight' afternoon show together:
Mako Mermaids
Worst Witch
Just Add Magic
Bake Off

Just seen you might not have Sky - also available online at UKTV play. And new series is coming to Channel 4 (though I imagine without the PG rating to start with!).

oobedobe · 02/10/2020 23:10

Oh also the 'White Rabbit Project' which is a sort of Netflix Mythbusters, sadly they only did one season

OnlyToWin · 02/10/2020 23:11

We watched Bear Grylls the island too but can’t remember if there is swearing in it - mine are older and tell me they hear worse at school. Hmm

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/10/2020 23:11

His Dark Materials on iPlayer

NellePorter · 02/10/2020 23:13

Malory Towers, Babysitters Club, Robin Hood (the BBC one with Jonas Armstrong)

ifiwasascent · 02/10/2020 23:22

Locke and key

Ouchy · 02/10/2020 23:24

Class dismisses is very funny on CBBC, as is so awkward

Bunnybigears · 02/10/2020 23:27

Everybody Hates Chris

@AestheticWitch

My two love The Next Step, and Heidi, it is on You Tube.

The Long Long Holiday was one of the best things we ever saw, if that ever came back to Netflix.

The Dumping Ground on CBBC.

I know far more than any reasonable person needs about choreo for regionals, nationals and internationals from too many hours of The Next Step. Both kids love it.

8yo was raving about Izzy's Koala World on netflix. It's a very easy family watch.

backinthebox · 03/10/2020 09:16

Things my DCs (13&10) enjoyed recently:
Letter for the King
Alex Rider
The World’s Toughest Race with Bear Grylls
The Mandolorian
His Dark Materials

30not13 · 03/10/2020 09:20

If you are foodies can I add

Family Food Fight
Deep Fried Masters
BBQ masters

NightmareLoon · 03/10/2020 09:23

Avatar: the Last Airbender (Netflix)

My 9 year old was freaked out by Merlin.

cakeslover · 03/10/2020 09:38

Another vote for "just add magic"

IntoTheDragonsLair · 03/10/2020 13:41

My 10 yr old enjoys "Lego masters" on All4

I’m a fully grown woman but I LOVED Julie and the Phantoms on Netflix. It’s from the guy that done High School Musical, which I really liked, back in the day, but this is better. It has some really great music, is funny and super cute. I’m not going to lie, there are some cheesy parts but who doesn’t love a bit of cheese at times? The basic concept is that it’s about 3 bands mates that die in 1995 after eating dodgy hotdogs and come back 25 years later and form a band with a girl who is struggling to get back into music after losing her mum a year beforehand. It obviously deals with death and these guys are ghosts but it’s not spooky or morbid in the slightest. I think I might love it more than my kids do!!!!

AlanWhickersKnickers · 04/10/2020 09:14

If you have Amazon Prime than Just add Magic is great. It's rated U so suitable for the 7 year old but is surprisingly entertaining for all ages.

teaandcustardcreamsx · 04/10/2020 17:17

@covetingthepreciousthings

Merlin if you can find it.

I was thinking about this the other day after bingeing my way through The Fall and spotting Merlin.. is it available anywhere?

Merlin is available on Netflix and BBC iPlayer (although annoyingly enough, they don’t do the spells properly on the Netflix)
Mamabem · 04/10/2020 17:18

We're watching Merlin and Legend of Monkey en famille at the mo

VillageGreenTree · 04/10/2020 17:21

Merlin.

OohKittens · 04/10/2020 19:57

Mine loved creeped out and the A list both on Netflix

Dontbugmemalone · 05/10/2020 23:33

Both of my DC have really enjoyed The Inbestigators on Netflix. They have watched all episodes several times.

They also started watching Arthur on BBC iplayer as well Horrible Histories.
