EastEnders.

Well, it's also down to hype and thwarted expectations, isn't it? Guardian readers under the line always take the piss that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is lauded. I loved both series of Fleabag but came to them cold - I'm sure had I read all the hype first, I might have loved it but less than I did iyswim. Re GOT never seen it but assume it betrayed the books then or did it go on longer than the book series - all I know is Ian McShane calling it Tits and Dragons/being amused that a character bore the same name as a journalist (same as I am amused that Better Things has Sam Fox as its protagonist) and that Kevin from Strictly/Jon looked bad in a wig dancing with Susan/Daenerys whose wig made her look like Vanessa Feltz.

I like lots of slow paced shows and like the actors,script - but sorry its so dull,no real plot . i know one has to watch the first three seasons before you get into it - but the ones i have watched just dragged by with a clifhanger about some starchy collar .

Both are about as far away form overrated as you can get though. They were both (rightfully) absolutely slated.

The point being it was and remained the most highly rated show until that point, the serious failings in the last series has now basically rendered the entire series unwatchable.

I started a rewatch from S1 during lockdown, but my heart wasn’t in it.

Scenes/storylines that had previously excited me, just became so much redundant wallpaper.

HBO was happy to give the Davids as long as they wanted to finish the story. GRRM thought it could have run for ten seasons, given the depth of plotting and storytelling.
But no. The Davids wanted to fuck off to Disney and count their millions therefore screwing over millions of fans around the world, and pretty much all of the cast too.

They should never be forgiven.

Also the Royle Family. Just an opportunity for middle class southerners to sneer at working class northerners. It was sad about Caroline Aherne though.

Right. When it was highly rated, it was because it was really good (ergo, not overrated), and when it went shit, everybody moaned about how shit it had gone (ergo, still not overrated).
