The model on the Evans ad is a bit um, ordinary do you not think?

Is she a competition winner or something? There are plenty of stunning plus size models yet the one that is modelling for the biggest plus size chain is, well, a bit of a minger. She is pleasant looking but not fab and I think that they could help larger women feel better if they were represented as stunning instead of girl-next-door-ish.

DP said the exact same thing yesterday

Kewcumber · 06/10/2007 22:39

she's also not that large but I do appreciate that us larger ladies don;t aspire to being a size 28 do not realistic I guess having a model that size

Perigrine · 06/10/2007 22:42

Can I quote

"well, a bit of a minger. She is pleasant looking"

Can you please clarify waht you really think. And also add pictures of yourself.

Yes, she is not Tyra Bank (plus size at the mo), but she is not a "minger" by any stretxh of the imagination.

GET over yourself.

And I typed all this and then looked at the OP and I am shocked that it is you Carmenere because I normally have a very high respect for your opinions.

Carmenere · 06/10/2007 22:43

She is probably an 16-18 and in fairness the clothes look good on her. She is just a bit plain and I think that is kind of patronising to larger women.

Oh I am gorgeous Peregrine

Kewcumber · 06/10/2007 22:45

I agreed with the title but 'a bit of a minger' is way too harsh.

Carmenere · 06/10/2007 22:46

No you are missing my point. she isn't stunning, full stop. She is pretty but why isn't she stunning?

Kewcumber · 06/10/2007 22:46

I particularly diagree with that description becasue she's better looking than me (photos to prove it) ao what does that make me

BecauseImWereWolfit · 06/10/2007 22:46

I was shocked by how slim the women looked in this ad.

I do understand that they want their clothes to look gorgeous, therefore their models have to be gorgeous as well.

But why do they choose women who are clearly at the very bottom end of the sizes that their clothes are designed for? I bet most of those women were borderline size 14/16.

Women who are bigger and who have a whole store aimed at them deserve an approach that is more sensitive to them, IMHO.

And before anyone jumps on me, I think that women who are more than size 16 can look gorgeous as well. Which is why it's such a shame that the ads didn't reflect this.

Carmenere · 06/10/2007 22:47

OFGS that was tongue in cheek. She is a pretty girl but she is noticeably not gorgeous.

Clary · 06/10/2007 22:48

Well actually I was watching this the other day and I thought she was quite glammy.

Not very big tho. Size 16? p'shaw!

Carmenere · 06/10/2007 22:49

The point I am trying to make is that there already exist plenty of really gorgeous plus size models so why has one who is not got one of the, if not the biggest modelling jobs going

OP posts:
Clary · 06/10/2007 22:49

Not that size 16 is big of course

womba1 · 06/10/2007 22:49

I was approached to do some plus size modelling a few years ago, which included Evans and Simply Be. However, due to having a very low opinion of myself, i turned the agency down.
Believe me though....i'm not stunning!! Just very tall with big knockers!!

Clary · 06/10/2007 22:50

Maybe it's so that actual RL women can aspire to being her rather than someone sooo gorgoeus they will just look at her and say, "oh, I could never look like that"?

Carmenere · 06/10/2007 22:52

You may well be right Clary but I think that might be a bit patronising iyswim.

Sorry to disappoint you Harman!!!!

snowleopard · 06/10/2007 23:24

I saw this ad the other day and really liked it and her. What I liked was they way she was shown as very confident and happy, not just standing there being plus-size and admirable IYSWIM. TBH didn't register whether how good-looking she was but not a minger!

There is a full-page ad inamagazines at themoment for Ariel with Febreze (had to just go and check!), showing a woman in jeans and a pink top and I love her. She looks totally normal - not skinny, not model looks, she just looks really happy about her washing powder basically. Though it wouldn't make me buy the product, it's an ad that makes me feel good. I don't think there's anything patronising about someone being less skinny and also less perfect-looking - bring it on.

Fireflyfairy2 · 06/10/2007 23:25

Where's the Evans ad at?

snowleopard · 06/10/2007 23:34

Can't find thewhole thing, but (if it's the same one we're talking about) there are clips on the evans website

lovey · 07/10/2007 09:15

I COMPLETELY agree! In fact I said that to my dh, she wouldn't make we want to buy those clothes one bit!

hippipotOFBLOODami · 07/10/2007 09:20

See, I really like her. I even said to dh last night - she is pretty.
Why does she need to be glamorous? I get fed up with advertising depicting glamorous women and then being dishartened when I do NOT look glamorous wearing the same things.

She is beautiful in an understated 'normal' way, not over the top stunning. That means, if the clothes look good on her, they may look good on me. Because they obviously look good on normal-looking people, not just on stunning glamorous types.

pyjamagirlgotbitbyvampires · 07/10/2007 09:20

I said that she dosen't look like she would ever usually wear the clothes either they just didn't suit her ,pus she only looks about 14

Theclosetpagan · 07/10/2007 09:24

I think she looks lovely. Normal figure and pretty face. I think she's very attractive.
