Am I the only one who doesn't understand the hype around Hamilton?

Admittedly it is probably different live. I am talking about the Disney screening. I was looking forward to it having heard so much about it but I couldn't get into it at all. Anyone else?

This particular video from the series I mentioned earlier looks at one specific song and how the themes, lyrically and musically, are repeated at various points in the show, not randomly but as foreshadowing or subversion of key themes, how the harmonies mirror the lyrical development, etc etc.

It’s fine not to like it, but it’s far from simplistic musically or otherwise. Yes, there are problematic elements, and it is not perfect, nor entirely historically accurate. Lyrically and musically though it’s extremely smart.

I agree OP - was long and boring and if we hadn't switched on the subtitles I wouldnt have been able to understand what was happening and I do know a bit about the time petiod. Reminded me of the first time I saw Evita and couldn't hear Che Guavara. I liked the guy playing Lafayette.

Glad I watched it - none of us would pay to see it live now.

It was good but I would prefer to see it live. There is a lot missing when stage shows are filmed but this gives those a chance who would never get to Broadway to see the original cast, and I appreciate that chance.

The writing is excellent though and I adored each of the performances. Daveed Diggs (Lafayette and Jefferson) stole the show for me and Phillipa Soo made me cry with her last song.
