Love The Chase. Wish they'd get rid of this bit...

The part where the contestant has to ask their team-mates what they should go for. It's the same answers Every. Single. Time.

'You could go for the big one but we need you back here.'
'Play safe and come back.'
'Don't take the minus. Need you back.'

Oh and the bit after the finalists have their run.

'Not bad. We're going to need push backs.'

Bradley. There's nothing else they can say. Stop asking.

It’s all about those pushbacks!

I agree

LunaNorth · 19/07/2020 20:47

The Chase is our family’s Lockdown tv show, and we’ve built up a whole language around it. It’s audience participation in our house.

When someone gets about £3k on the cashbuilder but Bradders says ‘You’re a better player than that’ we all go ‘No he’s not!’

Anyone who gets £1k on the cashbuilder is ‘Grandwanker!’

Anyone who does well but turns down the high offer gets a chorus of ‘Fanny!’

If they do take the high offer but get caught, then we all say ‘You’ve made a right tit of yourself’

Lockdown has flown by in this house...

Crispsnatcher · 19/07/2020 20:52

@LunaNorth that's brilliant. I love The Chase. You would feel a right arsehole if you were on it and told your team mate to take the high offer and they did and then got caught. Or I would.

Crispsnatcher · 19/07/2020 20:54

There is something that bothers me about The Chase though. In the final round, the contestants get a head start depending on how many team players are left. So 1 player gets 1 point head start.

I think I this needs revision. 1 player left should get a 4 point head start. 4 players should get 1.

Think I'm going to draft a letter to ITV Wink

mum2jakie · 19/07/2020 20:59

I used to think that too Crispsnatcher but the additional points for each player is an incentive and reward to get as many through as possible - otherwise you'd lose the 'team' element, especially as the money is split evenly between all the remaining players.

Crispsnatcher · 19/07/2020 21:02

Hmmm maybe Jakie. Single players never do so well though so I feel it's a bit harsh. But I take your point about the team element.

Soph88888 · 19/07/2020 21:25

It's a fix!!
When the contestants answer questions in the final they have to hit the buzzer stopping the timer each time. But when the chaser does it they can just shout out the answer they dont need to stop the timer so they can use the time more effectively

But that works against the chaser. Contestants are using up none of their time in giving their answer - and they get loads of time to think and discuss. But the chaser's remaining time diminishes while they're answering.

The advantage with being the only person in the final chase is that you instantly know if you know the answer or need to pass.
In a team you waste valuable seconds waiting to see if a team mate knows it.

LunaNorth · 19/07/2020 22:16

Then there’s all the stuttering because they’re not sure who should be answering.

LunaNorth · 19/07/2020 22:19

What really makes us laugh is when Bradders asks, ‘What will you do with the money if you win?’ and the contestant says, ‘I’ll go on a world cruise/pay for all my grandchildren to go to university/buy a Bugatti Veyron/buy a rambling chateau in Provence.’

With 4 grand??

But the time is stopped so nothing is really wasted. Just some dithering about but the clock is paused so it doesn't matter.
GhostTypeEevee · 19/07/2020 22:33

@crispsnatcher but you only press the buzzer and stop the time if you know the answer. If you don't you have to wait to see if someone else know or you make the decision to pass

Crispsnatcher · 20/07/2020 03:34

Ah true, time is lost due to much dithering about who knows the answers to what.

BitOfFun · 20/07/2020 03:43

I love The Chase. It's very comforting to have all the familiar phrases, I think. I do laugh at "What are you going to do with the money?" though. NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS Grin.

Monty27 · 20/07/2020 03:51

I think it needs speeding up. I agree with above about the consulting the rest of the team but really the bit where Bradley asks the contestants which chaser they'd like to play zzzzzzz
It needs reformatting.
Love Bradley otherwise I probably wouldn't watch it Grin

betteliefsen · 20/07/2020 04:10

I wish the contestants would come up with some wildly inappropriate answer instead like spending it all on chocolate willies or something.

CherryMaple · 20/07/2020 06:56

Why are the questions for the Chaser so much easier than those for the contestants in the final round? That’s what’s so unfair.

Furball · 20/07/2020 07:05

I think there 2 sets of questions A + B and the team choose which they want.

But yes sometimes the team get asked things like 'in inches how far is it to the moon' and the chaser gets 'what day comes after Saturday'

MashedSpud · 20/07/2020 07:32

Bradley always speeds up the questions for the chaser in the final round. Sometimes it’s so fast he could be a commentator for the Grand National.

xsquared · 20/07/2020 21:35

Surely they're only easier if you know them? I don't think they are any easier tbh. You either know them or you don't. I know there are mners who have been on The Chase and won.
Monty27 · 21/07/2020 03:41

Cheap TV

WildIrishRose1 · 21/07/2020 04:08

We started to watch this as well in lockdown and love it. DH and I were discussing game theory here - he reckons that so few people go for higher number as they don't trust their team mates. Why do all the work, for others to gain? We thought that the real risk would be for everyone to go for the big money, but that they were still vulnerable to the final player going low and still benefitting from the cash. Why wouldn't they?

WildIrishRose1 · 21/07/2020 04:11

I'm also a fan of Dale's Supermarket Sweep. (I know. And totally in a non-ironic way.) Good old Challenge channel! Apologies for hijacking thread!

VikingVolva · 21/07/2020 06:23

I was talking to DH about this (we watch as he transitions from working day to evening)

With only a very few exceptions, women are told to stay in the middle and it's OK to go low, men get told to try high they can do it.

Not invariably of course, but once you've spotted it happening, you can't unsee it
